Madder Mortem Finish Recording New Album
Norway's MADDER MORTEM have finished recording their new album at Space Valley Studios and are scheduled to mix the effort in late August at Studio Fredman in Gothenburg, Sweden. 12 songs were reportedly recorded for the CD, which is being described as "pretty creepy and dark," with "more experimental and crazy ideas" than its predecessor. Songtitles set to appear on the album include "My Name Is Silence", "Evasions", "Plague On This Land", "M For Malice", "Changeling", "Hypnos" and "Hangman". A late 2004/early 2005 release through Century Media Records is expected.
MADDER MORTEM's next live appearance will take place on August 7 in Kongsvinger. Also set to perform are SHOWDOWN, ZEENON, WYRUZ, INSENSE and LEFT AMONG THE LIVING.

Antimatter Begin Recording New Album
Britain's ANTIMATTER, a group made up of current and past members of popular post-metal merchants ANATHEMA, have entered the studio to begin recording their third album. A late summer/early fall release is expected. Songtitles set to appear on the CD are as follows:
01. A Portrait Of The Young Man As An Artist
02. Legions
03. Eternity Part 24
04. Fighting For A Lost Cause
05. Relapse
06. The Weight Of The World
07. Epitaph
The album will represent a brief hiatus from electronica, as an acoustic orchestral sound canvass is planned. Danny Cavanagh (piano) and Jenny O'Connor (vocals) are likely to appear on some tracks, echoing the acoustic sessions of 2001 that yielded the bonus tracks for "Saviour". Rachel Brewster from the U.K. band MARLOWE is also scheduled to make an appearance.
Spiritual Beggars In The Studio
Spiritual Beggars guitarist Michael Amott has posted this message on the band's official website:
"As usual, recording here at studio Fredman is wild and strange experience. Mr. Fredrik Nordstrom is crazier than ever!
In the 4 days we have been here, we have put down all the basic tracks (we are recording drums, guitars, bass and keyboards live on to 2" tape) and it is sounding really warm, big and heavy! Our producer, Fredrik Nordstrom, has got a phenomenal sound out of Ludwig Witt's brand new custom built (by himself!) kit… and of course Ludwig is beating the living shit out of the drums (the 28" bass drum sounds HUGE) and cymbals as usual - it sounds very killer so far!! It's a really different way of recording…no pro-tools and/or triggering of drums. This is the old school way…like Sabbath, Purple, Heep etc. used to do things back when heavy metal was born…it's fun and very satisfying! Today we are going through all the bass tracks and checking if there are improvements to be made there. Monday will be a keyboard day - time to lay down the Hammond, Mellotron, Fender Rhodes stuff, that's always a fun part of the recording, Per IS the keyboard wiz!
We'll keep dropping by here with some more reports later.....

Gorerotted Film New Video
U.K. extreme metal lunatics Gorerotted have finished shooting a video clip for the title track of their second album, "Only Tools And Corpses".
Commented Gorerotted singer Goreskin: “We hooked up with director Adam Powel because we were really impressed with his other work, in particular his Milk Productions skateboard stunt video 'Ill-Nation'. We shot the whole 'Only Tools And Corpses' video, including the fucking creepy zombies entirely on location in Adam's disused farm buildings. Basically it's a homage to classic horror films like 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre' and 'Evil Dead'. In fact this video's everything a Gorerotted video should be — zombies coming out of freezers, chainsaws, apathetic looking undead freaks brandishing hammers and 6 total cocks rocking out in an asbestos hanger. If that ain't metal as fuck, I don't know what is!"
Upcoming GOREROTTED tour dates:
Aug. 14 - Bad Berka, GER – Party.San Open Air
Aug. 16 – Gent, BEL - Frontline (w/ Vomitory)
Aug. 18 – Aalen, GER - Rock It
Aug. 19-21 – Abtsgmünd, GER - Summer Breeze Open Air
w/ INHUME:
Dec. 02 - T.B.A.
Dec. 03 - T.B.A.
Dec. 04 – Arnhem, NETH - Goudvishal

Yngwie Malmsteen In Writing Mode
"What's Yngwie up to now?" That's the most frequently asked question this past month, and the answer is this: He's mostly working on the songs for his next rock album, and occasionally switching gears to do more work on his eargerly awaited next all-classical opus.
Everyone needed a good long break after two kick-ass tours (G3 and USA Attack Tour), and Yngwie is spending his time playing tennis, hanging out with his family, and creating music.

Turisas Signed With Century Media
The finnish battle metallers Turisas sign a deal with Century Media and will be putting out their new album "Battle Metal" on July 26th, 2004. The album produced by Terje Refsnes (Tristania, Morgul, ...) was recorded in France (at Sound Suite Studios). You can hear a new sound at www.centurymedia.de.
Here you have the impresions of the frontman Warlord: “Finally, after years of work we have something to present to all the people who have stood by our side so far and to all the ones to whom Turisas is/will be an interesting newcomer. ''Battle Metal'' is - as almost all debut albums tend to be - a collection of songs written during a six-year period between the founding year 1997 and 2003, but it doesn't suffer from the usual unevenness common to most debuts. From the first second to the last, “Battle Metal” is powerful orchestrations, catchy folkishness and the glory and the brutality of the battlefields - all bound together by an open-minded approach and pure progressiveness. This album is definitely something fresh in the whole scene and we hope you will find it as powerful and inspiring as we do ourselves.”

New Slayer DVD Details
Slayer fan site Slayer Saves has posted a review of the group's July 11 show in Augusta, Maine, which was filmed for an upcoming live DVD, entitled "Reign in Blood Live: Still Reigning." The disc will feature a full performance of the 1986 album "Reign in Blood" by all original members of the veteran thrash metal outfit. The DVD, due on September 28, will have an approximate 75-minute running time and will retail for $14.98. An excerpt from the Slayer Saves review follows:
"The band took a short encore pause from 'Angel of Death' to 'Piece by Piece,' same as they did on the Jager tour. Blood rained from the lighting rig upon the beginning of 'Raining Blood' soaking Tom and bloodying Kerry (Jeff avoided the bulk of the blood). The only adverse result of the blood was it killed the sound of Dave's cymbals for the end of the song when once again it poured blood soaking everything including the drums. The effect was quite striking and the crowd was blown away. A blood soaked Tom addressed the cheering crowd with a sneering smile and the words 'We'll see you in HELL.' Comments from people leaving the venue were positive and I think the show was received extremely well. The blood effect was amazing and worth every penny alone."

Aggressive Music Festival Video Posted Online
Albany's Capital News 9 has posted a two-minute video report from this weekend's Aggressive Music Festival, which featured performances from a number of national heavy metal bands, including Slayer, Slipknot, Killswitch Engage, Chimaira, Superjoint Ritual, Shadows Fall, Hatebreed and Life Of Agony. Watch the video here.
Around 4,000 music fans from the Capital Region and as far away as California packed the Glens Falls Civic Center for the festival, which was organized in part by Hatebreed singer Jamey Jasta. Back in May, a group of local people went around getting residents in the Glens Falls area to sign petitions (watch video here) against the concert due to some of the groups' questionable lyrics. But organizers, bands and fans said there's nothing wrong with this type of music.
Promoter Ted Etoll said, "They took one little isolated lyrical content and made everybody here to look like demons, which they aren't."
Mark Wellington of Queensbury said, "You know a lot of people were shaky about having guys like us come up here and have a festival, but overall it's just fans coming to listen to good music."
Kiss Prisoners Of Own Set List
Kiss guitarist/vocalist Paul Stanley recently spoke to Pennsylvania's TimesLeader.com about the group's decision to carry on without original members, guitarist Ace Frehley and drummer Peter Criss.
"Interestingly, the only people that seem to want to know why you've come back are the people that wish you wouldn't," Stanley said with a chuckle. "It's been an amazing response, and the turnouts have been incredible. I couldn't have wished for anything this good. Not only big crowds, but huge, boisterous approval of the show. The only thing louder than the band is the audience."
North Side Kings Singer Got A Good Lucky Jab
North Side Kings singer Danny Marianinho recently spoke to Unboundzine.com about his altercation (video) with Danzig frontman Glenn Danzig following Danzig's performance in Tuba City, Arizona on July 3. Asked how North Side Kings got on the same bill as Danzig in the first place, Danny said, "We have played in Tuba City a few times with Soulfly and became friendly with the promoter. We figured it would be a fun show. The kids up there go crazy, and it's fun to play for different crowds. I grew up with his music so I was real excited to play, and would never thought it would end up the way it did. I don't know what he was thinking when he threw me back. Did he expect me to have a jock shoving match or did he expect me to start yelling for it to be broke up?? He should know being from NJ — you lay your hands on someone, you better expect to get hit. I got a good lucky jab that shut him down. If I didn't, I am not so sure I would have been able to go the distance with him. But I was real fucking mad, and I forgot to take my blood pressure medicine that morning..."
Flotsam and Jetsam Added To Thrash Domination '04

September 26 - Tokyo, Japan @ Club Citta
Flotsam and Jetsam are currently writing material for their Crash Music Inc. debut and are tentatively planning on entering the studio in August for an early 2005 release. The new material is described by drummer Craig Nielsen as "leaps and bounds heavier than the last four records combined, definitely a return to the bands roots but still with some ambient surprises that break up all the speed riffing. There seems to be an inspired vibe going on in the writing process that is taking on a life of its own."
Crash Music is distributed in the U.S. by Caroline Distribution and has offices in France that handle the European territories through Crash Music Europe.
