Wicked Wisdom Laugh Off 'You Suck' Chants
Chris Harris of MTV.com reviewed the opening show of this year's Ozzfest, which took place Friday (July 15) in Mansfield, Massachusetts. An excerpt from the review follows:
"The scorched asphalt of the Tweeter Center's parking lot started to fill up at the unforgiving hour of 9 a.m., when one of this year's most anticipated (if for all the wrong reasons) bands was welcomed onto the stage by tour manager 'Big Dave' Moscato: WICKED WISDOM, the aggressive new metal target fronted by black-garbed Jada Pinkett Smith. The 'Woo' star was greeted with relentless booing and 'f--- you's from a furious sea of extended middle fingers as her five-piece band launched into 'Fakeness', a KITTIE-like tune that featured an almost spoken-word delivery from the headbanging Jada, spattered with unintelligible barks and growls.
"'You think I don't know, don't you?' she asked the crowd. 'But I do.' Pinkett Smith laughed off the 'you suck' chants and the concertgoers ridiculing her with grossly exaggerated moshing and neck-snapping headbangs through WICKED WISDOM's entire 20-minute set capped by a DISTURBED-ish track called 'You Can't Handle This'. Screaming 'Go Red Sox!' would have been Jada's best option for scoring applause.
"Sporting band and Sox T-shirts, bikini tops, intricate tattoos, and an early-morning buzz, the crowd erupted at the site of Bjorn Strid, the towering singer for SOILWORK. 'We're SOILWORK from Sweden. You must be the U.S.A.,' Strid said, borrowing a line from 'Spinal Tap', after the metalers ripped through 'Stabbing the Drama', the opening salvo of a thunderous set that sparked frenzied circle pits, horn throwing, and crowd surfing. (Even Jada's husband, Will Smith, was banging his head offstage.) Minutes after SOILWORK capped things off with 'As We Speak', Buffalo, New York, hardcore heathens IT DIES TODAY delivered a brutal, breakdown-dense battering via 'Freak Gasoline Fight Accident'."

Chevelle have joined the fight to save legendary rock club CBGB. All proceeds from the August 4th concert, "An Evening with Chevelle," will be donated to the "Project Save CBGB" campaign.
The famed New York landmark is in danger of losing its lease and closing its doors forever. "For the past three decades, CBGB owner Hilly Kristal has provided a safe haven for rock & roll," says Chevelle vocalist/guitarist Pete Loeffler. "The list of artists that have performed at the club is endless, and many of them, including The Ramones, Quicksand and Living Colour, are responsible for launching a thousand careers. This club is part of rock history. We can't let it go quietly."

Interview
Interview With Dan Jacobs From Atreyu
The original plan at this year’s Warped Tour was to interview Avenged Sevenfold. However, I found out at the last minute that A7x weren’t doing any press for the day. Instead, I did an interview with Atreyu guitarist Dan Jacobs. I only had 15 minutes and had to take turns with Debbie from Popyoularity.com but I managed to squeeze in the following questions: More...

Vans Warped Tour Report From Vancouver, BC
On Tuesday, July 12, the Vans Warped Tour ’05 rolled through Vancouver. Now I know the Warped Tour is a more punk-oriented tour but there’s usually one or two “heavy” bands on the tour. I have been to the past three Warped Tours and they were generally a lot of fun.
Like the other years, the Warped Tour was at Thunderbird Stadium on UBC campus. Doors were at 11am and the event started soon after that. There were two main stages inside the stadium, the Bishop and the Mike stages. Bands alternated on the stages, each playing a half hour slot. There were also four or five other stages scattered outside the stadium, far enough from each other so that the bands playing would not interfere with each other, and a bunch of booths everywhere so there is always something to do. ATR Singer Apologizes For Skipping SOTU Shows
All That Remains singer, Phil Labonte, has posted this message on the band's official website:
To anyone who came out to a few of the shows we had planned for Sounds Of The Underground off dates, we are very sorry that we had to bag the shows. Please understand that we do not have a bass player and Slo and Ken from Unearth have been filling in on the Sounds shows. The off dates we had booked, Unearth weren't on the same shows. We kinda can't play without a bass player (we tried that in Rochester, it was a bad idea). We are very sorry we had to bag the shows but we will be back. Thanks for your support we love you, in that friend kind of way, not the exchange body fluids kind. We don't really know each other that well and, it's just kinda gross. Phil

Sorry for not being able to stay around for autographs after the show at the Evolution festival, but we literally had to run from the stage to the van in order to catch the plane to Finland. We'll make up for it next time.

More Throwdown Tour Dates Revealed
Throwdown will headline the first ever "To Die For" tour this fall, sponsored by the popular Orange County To Die For clothing line and the crucial PureVolume website.
Remembering Never (Ferret), The Agony Scene (Roadrunner) and Sinai Beach (Victory) will join Throwdown, whose new album on Trustkill, "Vendetta," debuted at #156 on the Billboard 200 and #4 on the Heatseekers chart.
"We're very excited about this tour and we're even more stoked about all the bands that we are taking out," said Throwdown guitarist Matt Mentley. "To Die For is a great company we have worked with for a very long time and we're proud to have their name, along with Pure Volume's, associated with our first headlining tour for 'Vendetta.'"
Throwdown - rounded out by singer Dave Peters, bassist Dom Macaluso, drummer Ben Dussault and new guitarist Mark Choiniere - has spent this summer on the inaugural "Sounds Of The Underground" tour alongside Unearth, Chimaira and more.
To Die For is a clothing company based in Throwdown's native Orange County. The "To Die For" tour will be Throwdown's first headlining run in support of "Vendetta." The album's first single, "Burn," was just added by MTV2 and Fuse TV.
The past year has seen Throwdown take part in Ozzfest 2004 and tours with Lamb Of God, Fear Factory, As I Lay Dying and Norma Jean and treks to Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Japan, where "Vendetta" was released by Trustkill/ Roadrunner. The album was recorded in February with producer Zeuss (Hatebreed) and released in the US last month through Trustkill. The first 50,000 copies include a bonus DVD.
Remembering Never is touring in support of their breakthrough Ferret album, "Women and Children Die First." Midwestern metal merchants the Agony Scene's "The Darkest Red" features killer production from Rob Caggiano (Cradle Of Filth, Bleeding Through) and Sinai Beach's "Immersed" debuted at #198 on the Billboard charts.
Here is how the dates for the PureVolume sponsored "To Die For" tour, which kicks off August 10, are shaping up: More...
Wicked Wisdom Launches New Website
Ozzfest 2005's second stage band, Wicked Wisdom, featuring frontwoman Jada Pinkett-Smith, has launched a new website where you can listen to samples of all of the songs off their latest album. The band will be playing a 20 minute rotating slot on Ozzfest's second stage and signing CDs at the FYE tent (where their self titled album will be available) approximately 20 minutes after the set.
US Death Metal Band Exmortis Return
U.S. death metal band EXMORTIS, who released two classic demos (1988's "Descent into Chaos" and 1989's "Immortality's End") in the genre's heyday, has been resurrected featuring original members Brian Werking (guitarist/vocalist) and drummer Aantar Lee Coates (formerly of DIABOLIC and UNHOLY GHOST and currently in BLASTMASTERS).
EXMORTIS are planning to release a new demo, titled "The Resurrection", sometime during the summer months of 2005. The demo will feature five songs, including the title track, "The Resurrection", which was previously recorded on the "Immortality's End" demo in 1989. Other songs set to appear on the demo are "And There Was Pain", "Awakening of Sin", "The Slaughter Begins" and "Exmortis II". EXMORTIS are also planning to re-release some older material on CD very soon. The "Descent into Chaos" and "Immortality's End" demos will be available for purchase together on a single CD. The "Fade from Reality" seven-inch EP and the songs from "The History of Things to Come" compilation will also be available on a single CD.
EXMORTIS are currently searching for a guitarist and bassist to complete the group's lineup. Live shows will follow in 2006. For more information, visit www.exmortis.us.
Anorexia Nervosa Finishing EP
French symphonic black metal act ANOREXIA NERVOSA are putting the finishing touches on a new mini-CD, "The September", containing cover songs from FORBIDDEN SITE and DARKTHRONE, live tracks recorded during the band's "Redemption Process" French tour, and two songs that were previously only available in Japan. In addition, the band have remixed their live favorite "Sister September" for the occasion. "The September" is scheduled for release this fall, in time for the band's European tour with VADER.
ANOREXIA NERVOSA's fourth full-length album, "Redemption Process", was released last October through Listenable Records. The follow-up to 2001's "New Obscurantis Order" (Osmose Productions) was recorded at Drudenhaus studios in France and was mastered by Bjorn Engelmann (RAMMSTEIN, IN FLAMES, HYPOCRISY) at the Cutting Room in Sweden.
Into The Moat Lose Bassist To Illness
Into The Moat bassist Joshua Thiel has left the group for medical reasons. Thiel is suffering from a lung problem that is aggravated by smoke, which obviously doesn't coincide with performing at smoke-filled venues. Consequently, the Floridian group will likely play a portion of their current tour with Soilent Green sans bassist. Individuals interested in trying out for the band should send an email to into_the_moat@hotmail.com.
ISOR Goes On Hiatus
UK metal/hardcore band ISOR has announced plans to go on hiatus. More specifically, frontman Dave Merricks will "take a year out of the band" to pursue a new hardcore/metal band. Meanwhile, drummer Nick Hemingway will be focusing on his occupation as a sound engineer (Cancer, Fony) and producer. The band's second album, which had been halfway completed, has been shelved. Officially, Merricks and Hemingway "express their gratitude to all those that continue to support the band and with circumstances permitting look forward to performing together again in the future."
Agathodaimon Recording New Album
Guitarist Sathonys of the German black metallers AGATHODAIMON has issued the following update:
"Mid-way through 2005 and work on the sixth album continues. Recording of the drum tracks is now complete, and the next phase of recording is scheduled to begin soon. We have now locked ourselves away to concentrate all efforts towards the completion of the sixth album, spurning all extraneous human contact until such time as the sacred task is fulfilled. Any and all prior engagements and previous commitments will be ruthlessly forsaken until the opus is finally complete. Upon the completion of the mixing process, the album title and individual track titles will be unveiled in a major press release."
AGATHODAIMON's most recent album, "Serpent's Embrace", was released in June 2004 through Nuclear Blast Records.
