The Black Dahlia Murder Make Billboard 200
The Black Dahlia Murder’s sophomore album "Miasma" has made it's way to 119 on the Billboard top 200 during it's first week of sales. Selling around 10,000 albums. The band also landed the #1 spot on the Billboard Heat Seekers chart, which celebrates new artists’ releases. In addition The Black Dahlia Murder made 5 on the
Billboard Independent chart and 14 on the Billboard Hard Music chart.
Vocalist Trevor Strand stated, “We feel that the new record is more intense than the last on every front. I would almost say less accessible than "Unhallowed". It’s awesome to see that our fans are growing right along with us, musically speaking, and are accepting the record with open arms”.
The band is currently making their rounds with Ozzfest and have been well received, “The fans have been coming out in droves, yet at the same time, we’ve been reaching a lot of new people, which is very important to us. We get to speak for a genre that is highly overlooked with this opportunity, and possibly save people from Nu Metal damnation.”
Black Dahlia Murder is also touring with It Dies Today and the Haunted on their off-dates and will be headlining a fall tour. Here are all of the current tour dates including Ozzfest and off-dates: More...
Hypocrisy Drummer Hosptialized At Earthshaker Fest
According to a posting at SwedishMetal.net, HYPOCRISY drummer Horgh (ex-IMMORTAL) passed out Saturday morning (July 23) while partying with FINNTROLL at the Earthshaker Fest in Germany and had to be taken to the hospital. Rumors quickly began to spread that HYPOCRISY would be forced to cancel their gig at the festival, with HYPOCRISY mainman Peter Togtgren attempting to diffuse the situation by explaining that Horgh was "still alive." Fortunately, Horgh recovered in time for the HYPOCRISY gig to take place as scheduled.
HYPOCRISY's new album, "Virus" is scheduled for release on September 19 via Nuclear Blast Records. A video for the song "Scrutinized" was shot last month and will begin airing soon.
More Details On Carnivore Guitarist's Death
More information has surfaced regarding the passing of original CARNIVORE guitarist Keith Alexander (later of the short-lived PRIMAL SCREAM project), who was killed in a bike accident on July 11. The following account was posted on Bikeblog ("Perspectives on bike culture in NYC and beyond") a short time after the incident took place:
"I was in Shore road, Bay Ridge in Brooklyn, NY about an hour ago and saw a dead cyclist on the road. I wasn't there when it happened but I overheard the eyewitness told the police that he was trying to pass a little kid who was going left and right, he confused and hit the fence that seperate the highway and the Shore road, his head smashed right into the fence, blood was coming out the whole lane. The ambulance guy said that if he had had the helmet, he'd probably still alive. His bike is Trek bike, from the look I guess it's about $1500-$2500 range, every [part] was intact except the lower frame has little bent, I didn't ask how fast he was going. But I know for sure that he's much more pro cyclist than me.
"God bless him, I feel so bad for him. I used to wear helmet all the time but stop wearing 2 weeks recently, but after seeing this accident, I better start to put it on again. So to all you guys out there, please wear the helmet, you will never know what will happen. I've ridden that Shore road a thousand times, it's dedicated bike and walking lane, so it's 100% safe more than any road out there, you just never know, so be careful."
In addition to playing with CARNIVORE, Alexander spent a three-year stint with Dee Snider of TWISTED SISTER, touring extensively throughout North America and Scandinavia, with some audiences numbering over 20,000.
A body piercer since 1991, Keith had performed well over 22,000 piercings and over 150 cuttings and brandings. He also had extensive experience with play piercings. Formerly a staff piercer for Gauntlet, Inc. in New York City, Keith spent one year as a full-time apprentice to master piercers Dan Kopka and Mark Seitchik. Gauntlet founder Jim Ward issued Keith's certificate on August 2, 1994.
Milwaukee Metalfest Organizer Explains Date Change
Jack Koshick, the organizer of the Milwaukee Metalfest, has issued the following statement regarding the reasons for the postponement of this year's event:
"Due to circumstances beyond our control, the Milwaukee Metalfest scheduled for July 29 & 30 has been postponed. The new dates are Friday and Saturday December 2 & 3.
"A year ago when we set the dates for this year Milwaukee Metalfest, we never imagined that this would happen. Within two weeks of the this year's fest we are up against every major metal tour of the summer: Ozzfest, Sounds of the Underground, Lolapalooza, Rock Never Stops, Gigantour, Tony Hawk's Huck Jam, The Milwaukee Rally (Harley Fest) and to a lesser extent BON JOVI at Miller Park (free show).
"Because of the over saturation of talent in such a short period of time every one of these events are hurting attendance wise. Not to mention the 90-plus degree weather we have been faced with for the last month.
"I feel it is in the best interest of the Metalfest to postpone our dates to December 2 & 3, 2005, with the pre-show Xmas Bloody Xmas taking place at VNUK's on Thursday December 1. All tickets for the July dates will be honored. This rescheduling will give us time to revamp the lineup and give the supporters of Metalfest a show to get excited about. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.
"Thank you for your support for these past 19 years and we will see you in December."

Tool's "Lateralus" Vinyl Information
An update on Tool's "Lateralus" vinyl has been posted on the official band website:
I've a bit of an update on the Lateralus vinyl. As it now stands, the release date is still slated for AUGUST 23rd. However, the plan is to make a certain number of pre-sale copies available exclusively on the Tool websites. Unfortunately, the exact date hasn't yet been determined, although I hope to be able to post this soon. In addition, there will be a very LIMITED EDITION of copies that are autographed by the band members. As I understand it, this will involve a special process so that the signatures (each record being individually signed) will be on the record, itself, as opposed to the album jacket. I would imagine that these limited edition holographic copies will cost more, but I don't yet have information about the exact price or number of copies that will be made available on the site. As soon as these details are worked out, I will let you know.

Machine Men Still On Finnish Charts
Machine Men are happy guys these days. The young Finns earned great reactions during their performance at Earthshaker Fest last weekend and made a lot of new friends. What´s happening right now in the official Finnish single charts can easily be described as little sensation: the single “Falling”, taken from the upcoming album “Elegies”, is still in the top 20 on position 17 in its third week. Wow!
Machine Men will be performing on Wacken Open Air 2005 (Saturday, August 6th, W.E.T. Stage at 16:15 CET to 17:00 CET) to convince the metal fans with another brilliant show. All the metalheads who are not able to join this huge event will get their chance to catch up our newcomers on stage soon, as Machine Men are confirmed as support for Sonata Arctica on their European tour.

Oasis Stand Corrected In Gig Volume Debacle
A Canadian website has reported that Oasis have picked a fight with an unlikely foe - Manowar. Liam Gallagher was rabbiting on about how Oasis were the loudest band in the world onstage, when the interviewer interrupted to inform him that if he in fact checked the Guinness Book Of World Records he would see that it wasn't The Who, or even Motörhead, but NWOBHM band Manowar.
"But they're loud and shit though, aren't they? They're just shit," Gallagher said. "Who are they anyway?" Oasis bassist, Andy Bells chimed in, "Heavy metal?"
"Fuck Manowar," yelled Gallagher.
Burger King Launches Heavy Metal Gimmick
Business Week reports:
Burger King launched a new website, www.coqroq.com, a site meant to appear as if a heavy metal band of the same name had created it. The site includes videos showing the fictional band members in chicken heads, downloadable ring tones and photo galleries with shots of young girls with handwritten captions like "Groupies love the Coq" and “groupies love Coq." After the site went live on Tuesday, the bawdy captions were erased. Yawn. It was no doubt done to draw attention and unique visits to the site.
The site is well done for what it is, though I can't for the life of me understand why anyone of any age would want to spend much time taking in the "music" of a fake band and videos when the central theme of it all is chicken served at BK. Like I said...yawn.
The chicken schtick is supposed to be funny. But what I find hilarious are the deadly serious comments solicited by Advertising Age magazine to spotlight what dreadful fare this website is and how it is setting back women's status to the 19th century.
