LoG, Cannibal Corpse Members Join In New Project

CANNIBAL CORPSE bassist Alex Webster, WATCHTOWER/SPASTIC INK guitarist Ron Jarzombek and LAMB OF GOD drummer Chris Adler have joined forces in a brand-new project tentatively called MACHINATIONS OF DEMENTIA.

Commented Jarzombek in a posting on his web site: "For the past several months, I have been writing some heavy, brutal, technical, psychedelic, doomy music with Mr. 'Hammer Smashed Bass' himself Alex Webster, bassist for CANNIBAL CORPSE. Yeah, I know, holy crap! At the rate we are going, we will have enough material for a full CD by the end of the year. Of course, I don't want to give out a 'release date', but so far, we have about 40 minutes of material and aren't slowing down any time soon.

"Not totally decided on a name yet, we are tentatively calling the project MACHINATIONS OF DEMENTIA. On drums will be none other than Chris Adler from LAMB OF GOD. YIKES!!!!... Due to Chris' heavy touring schedule with LAMB OF GOD over the past months, he has had very little time to work on material, but the three of us are committed to making this happen. More...

KSE Turned Down Main Stage Appearance For Ozzfest

KILLSWITCH ENGAGE bassist Mike D'Antonio recently spoke to MTV.com about the band's as-yet-untitled first-ever DVD; if things move ahead with the retrospective project as scheduled, it could hit stores as early as this fall.

"We've been talking about it for about a year, and it's really something we wanted to take our time with," D'Antonio explained. "We didn't want to blow our load and put out a DVD that's total crap. So we've been talking about what makes DVDs suck so bad, and why they're so terrible. People just get bored with them, so we wanted to throw in all sorts of different comments by members of the band — but, again, have it move at a faster pace than most of these self-serving DVDs that're coming out, with these bands who've got diarrhea of the mouth, talking about how great they are and all this crap that doesn't pertain to what we're doing at all. Who cares what guitar your guitarist had when he was 10 years old?"

The bassist is completing artwork for the DVD and said the finished product will feature some of the group's earliest live footage — before the departure of original vocalist Jesse Leach, when they'd play to 30 people in some hole-in-the-wall pub — as well as extensive interviews with the entire band.

According to D'Antonio, KILLSWITCH were offered a spot on the main stage at this year's Ozzfest, but turned it down. "I'm not so sure we could blend with that 'sitting down' audience," he said. "We're more the type ... that needs a pit and likes to stand there and participate. We want to feel the emotion back from the crowd. I mean, main stage bands are treated a lot better, and there's a lot of stuff that would have made our lives a lot easier had we chosen that route. But the second stage is more fun — that's where we want to be."

KILLSWITCH ENGAGE co-headline the second stage at Ozzfest 2005 with ROB ZOMBIE beginnning on July 15 in Mansfield, MA.

Life of Agony Blur Nazi Symbol In Video

LIFE OF AGONY have blurred out an offensive image in their new video, "Love to Let You Down", following reports that the clip included footage of a person wearing a t-shirt bearing the SS (Schutzstaffel) Totenkopf symbol — the "Death's Head" symbol of the Nazi Elite Unit from the Third Reich.

Check out the offending image screen capture) at (this location. More information on the "Death's Head" symbol can be found here.

LIFE OF AGONY have issued the following statement regarding the matter:

"Alright, now, you guys really need to get jobs or something cause this t-shirt Nazi thing is really stupid. We are offended to even be called Nazis. I mean, one of the band members is Jewish. Give me a break. Social parasites, get off your asses and get a grip on the situation.

"First off, that wasn't even Keith's [Caputo, singer] shirt, Wardrobe stylists in the L.A. video shoot told Keith to put on the shirt, it wasn't even his it belonged to wardrobe. Obviously, the wardrobe girls just thought it was a cool shirt — they had no idea what it meant 50 years earlier. I do know that the end footage of the video, the offensive logo has been blurred out now, so no one will see it any more in Germany."

LIFE OF AGONY's new album, "Broken Valley", has sold 13,658 copies in the United States since its June 14 release, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

In a posting on Stratovarius' official website, the band announces that they have found a new bass player:

Long-time bass player Jari Kainulainen has left Stratovarius. There is no drama or bad blood. Jari just doesn't have it in his heart to tour this heavily anymore.

Jari is not dropping out of the scene, he will continue to play metal.

The new bass player is Lauri Porra. He is 27 years old and a native of Helsinki, Finland. He looks like this. He has previously played with Sinergy, Warmen and Kotipelto.

Says Lauri: "I'm very honored to be invited to play with Stratovarius and follow in the steps of such a great bass player as Jari. I'm really looking forward to going on the road with Stratovarius, to meet some old friends, and to hopefully make lot of new ones."

QOTSA Reveals Real Reason For Firing Oliveri

Chart Attack reports:

The Distillers' Brody Dalle is probably capable of fighting her own battles, but it must be comforting for her to know that her boyfriend, Josh Homme, takes abuse towards women very, very seriously.

In fact, the Queens Of The Stone Age frontman told BBC Radio 1 Wednesday that he fired the band's bassist, Nick Oliveri, after discovering Oliveri had physically abused his girlfriend (or so Homme alleges). More...

Shadows Fall To Sign Euro Deal With Roadrunner

Shadows Fall are on the verge of signing a European deal with Roadrunner Records, informed sources have told Blabbermouth.net. The Massachusetts-based band, who sold nearly 250,000 copies of their latest CD, "The War Within", in the United States, have fulfilled their commitment to Century Media Records and are expected to sign a big-money major-label deal (possibly with Atlantic) for the North American territory.

Shadows Fall had previously indicated that they were very happy with Century Media and had no intentions of signing with a bigger label. In an interview with Metal-Rules.com conducted last year, Shadows Fall singer Brian Fair said of Century Media, "They have seriously stepped it up in such a way that…all you can ask from a label is that as you grow as a band is that they step up and push you further and further. I've been amazed at the job they've done for us in the last couple years. It's been amazing to feel that support. It makes you work harder, you know what I mean? It's just awesome. Especially being on a small label like that compared with some of the bands that we've seen step up to the major labels, I think we have just as much going for us as they do. Only we still have all the control (laughs)."

Shadows Fall have been confirmed as one of the main-stage performers at this year's Ozzfest beginning on July 15 in Mansfield, Massachusetts.
