Dave Mustaine Recounts Megadeth's Fall To Present
MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine has posted the following message on the band's official web site:
"Here is what I have been saying in the interviews, what happened chronologically that caused the demise of the band, why [drummer] Nick [Menza] was fired, [guitarist] Marty [Friedman] quitting, records turning out the way they did, and finally me walking away.
"When 'Countdown To Extinction' came out, the band and I were ecstatic to have a number 2 record. But if you could believe this, also during that time there were a lot of the 'movie-type intervention group therapy meetings' with me in the middle of a session of what rapidly was referred to as a 'Dave Bashing' session.
"There were all of these complaints and trying to get me to stop using drugs, as well as comments about my leadership skills. I remember them all taking a test and grading me as well as numerous other shameful and painful exercises meant to crack me or break me down.
"Well, this really hurt all of us, mostly me. The members at these sessions were Nick, Marty, Junior, Ron Laffitte (manager), Raymond May (counselor), David White (counselor – and not Gadget, the guitar tech).More...

On Malevolent Creation's Rock The Nations Abscence
MALEVOLENT CREATION issued a statement about missing last weekend's Rock The Nations festival in Istanbul, Turkey. It reads as follows:
"Our apologies go out to the Turkish fans who came to see us perform in Istanbul on July 4th (this past Sunday) at the Rock The Nations Festival only to find out we were not playing. We would have been there, but after providing the promoter with the correct ticket information for all 5 band members more then 3 months ago, no ticket information ever arrived. After many attempts to get the ticket info, it arrives in an e-mail without a ticket for our drummer Dave Culross. With no response from the promoter about getting a ticket for our drummer Dave, we had no choice but to stay where we were. Trapped in a German hotel for 4 days until we could fly home on July 6th. Still have not got an explanation to why this happened but hopefully we can try this again next year because we heard that we missed an amazing festival. To make matters worse our London, England show on June 23rd at the Underworld was also cancelled because mother nature was an angry lady that stormy afternoon. We left for England from France at 1:30 pm on a ferry boat that normally takes 1 1/2 hours across the sea to England. Of course, a brutal rain storm with 70-mile-an-hour winds causes all ports for the ferries to dock to get closed and we are stuck on a ferry for 10 hours before the ferry can dock. (What can i say? We are fucking cursed !!! Believe me, it was no fun watching people vomiting from sea sickness for 10 hours.) Once again sorry to all the fans who showed up at both these shows only to be let down, but sometimes shit happens. We promise to return later this year in support of our new album 'Warkult'. 'Warkult' is out now in Europe and will be released July 27th in North America on Nuclear Blast Records."
Deicide Re-Sign To Earache Records
DEICIDE have re-signed with Earache Records for a worldwide two-album deal. After witnessing Earache's results with "Scars Of The Crucifix", the band have decided to extend their relationship with the label for two more albums.
Since DEICIDE originally signed with Earache in 2003 for "Scars Of The Crucifix", the band and the label have made great strides together. In its first week out, "Scars Of The Crucifix" debuted at No. 18 on Billboard's Independent Albums Chart and No. 24 on Billboard's Heatseekers Chart in the U.S., hitting both charts higher than any other metal band. In 2004, "Scars" has sold more copies worldwide than any other Earache release this year. Earache commissioned DEICIDE's first-ever video, for the title track off "Scars", and saw to it that it aired on MTV2, Fuse, Kerrang TV, and Scuzz TV.
Earache's Al Dawson had this to say about the re-signing: "DEICIDE are a great band who have stood the test of time. They're super cool guys and we're psyched to continue working with them."
DEICIDE's Brian Hoffman declared: "I am very happy to be on the best death metal label there is."

Cradle Of Filth Studio Update
Former THEATRE OF TRAGEDY/current LEAVES' EYES vocalist Liv Kristine has recorded a guest appearance for the new CRADLE OF FILTH album, "Nymphetamine", due late September through Roadrunner Records.
"We are now in the mixing stage of the 'Nymphetamine' session at Chapel studios, Linclonshire, UK," bassist Dave Pybus writes on the group's web site. "This is headed by Colin Richardson with the presence of Dan Turner and occasionally [producer] Rob [Caggiano]. The word on the street is this record sounds massive. So far we have six songs mixed down: 'Gilded C**t', 'Medusa and Hemlock', 'Gabrielle', 'Swansong for a Raven', 'Filthy Little Secret' and 'English Fire'.
"I personally got to hear these few mixes on our return from last weekends festivals in Budapest and Waldrock in Holland," Dave added. "We were away from home for quite some time actually due to all the traveling between shows. We are mixing in-between festivals, which can be quite chaotic. I must admit, the new stuff does sound like nothing we have done before. And yes, I know all bands say that about their new material, but this 'experiment' of us playing together in the studio has really started to pay off. OK, its slower, and a lot more hard work, but we are trying to capture something special with atmosphere which is somehow lost in all that digital editing found in modern recordings. It's very aggressive. Gives it the edge we were looking for. Totally in your face for the most part haha. Maybe, it will be like a year after this record is out that we truly realize how cool this album will be due to that process. Only time will tell. It's exciting, that's for sure."
Arch Enemy Guitarist Does Guest Solo For Kreator
ARCH ENEMY guitarist Michael Amott has recorded a guest solo for the song "Murder Fantasies" off the upcoming KREATOR album, tentatively due January 2005 through SPV Records.
The as-yet-untitled follow-up to 2001's "Violent Revolution", which is being recorded and mixed at Backstage Studios in Derbyshire, England with producer Andy Sneap, is being described by Petrozza as "pure brutal thrash! Tons of fast shit, sick solos, aggro riffing... I am really psyched about the new shit. Can't wait to hear what [the fans] think about it..." A specially priced four-song EP will precede the album later this year, featuring previously unreleased live material and non album tracks. Artwork duties will be handled by Austrian artist Jochim Luetke (www.luetke.com). Check out video clips of the band in the studio during the recording sessions for the new album (Quicktime required): Video#1 (3.55 MB), Video#2 (3.12).
KREATOR will headline this year's Hole in the Sky festival, a four-day event set to be held August 25-28 at three different venues in Bergen, Norway. Other bands set to appear include DANZIG, ENTOMBED, KATATONIA, VADER and ZYKLON.
