Q&A With James Hetfield

Greg Kot of the Chicago Tribune recently caught up with Metallica frontman James Hetfield and asked him about bandmate Lars Ulrich's remark that the Metallica that exists now is the Metallica that Jason Newsted always advocated when he was in the band. "Jason certainly sparked the inward look in us all, but unfortunately he was the one that chose not to look inward, he just ran outward," Hetfield said. "Right when it started to get heavy, he bailed on it. I'm glad we continued with what we had to do. In a way, we were disappointed that he wasn't willing to do the work. He just wanted to get to the destination. He didn't want to travel the journey."

Saxon Album Update And Tracklisting

Saxon frontman Biff Byford recently spoke to the U.K.'s long-running magazine Terrorizer about the group's brand-new album, "Lionheart," due on September 20 through SPV Records. The follow-up to 2001's "Killing Ground" was completed at Gems24 studio near Boston, Lincolnshire, England with producer Charlie Bauerfeind and features artwork by Paul R. Gregory, who had previously worked with the group on the now classic "Crusader" album.

"It's more powerful," Biff said of the new album, "We wanted it to be a rawer album because a lot of people say 'you're fantastic live, but on album you're a bit, er, "reverby"!' (laughs). So we went for an album that is right in your face, vocally and guitar-wise. . . On this album, it's a very strong mixture of early and new SAXON influences. We've cut out a lot of the bullshit and got down to the nitty gritty of what really makes a great metal sound. It's Saxon 2004 basically!"

Regarding the band's longevity, Biff said, "We're really passionate about what we do, and that shows through in the songs. We don't follow trends.

"Metal has become young people's music again," he explained, "It tends to go in cycles and people rebel against manufactured music. They want something raunchy and rebellious where you can identify with the members rather than them just looking beautiful. Age doesn't matter. It doesn't matter to some 15-year-old kid who likes the music that I'm the same age as his father!"

Stormlord Work On New Music Video

Extreme metal act Stormlord are currently hard at work on the brand new horror video of the song "Under The Boards (195, M.A.)," taken from the new "The Gorgon Cult" album and bound to be unleashed on the net and tv's in September/October.

After the zombies of "I Am Legend" (still freely downloadable from www.stormlord.net) the band gathered together with the director Brigida Costa to discuss about the new opus. The story will speak about a psycho/medical serial killer who come out at night to stalk his victims and then trap them in his clinic of horror... The video will be much more similar to a short movie than to a "normal" videoclip. Prepare to shock your minds in September, just expect the most bloody and dark metal video EVER!
As usual the cast will be starring David Bracci from the Sergio Stivaletti team (Dario Argento and more) for the special FX but also Giuseppe Oppedisano ("The English Patient," "Cari Fottutissimi Amici," "Demonium" and more...) as the insane psycho killer.

Pics of the making are avaliable at this location.

The video will be avaliable for free download on www.stormlord.net.
