Avenged Sevenfold Scoffs At Riff-Stealing Claim
When talking with Electricbasement.com recently, AVENGED SEVENFOLD vocalist M. SHADOWS scoffed at one ridiculous internet rumor suggesting their guitar players stole a riff and used it one of their songs, "...The new rumor about [us] is that Synyster and Zack went to Guitar Center and heard this kid playing a riff, and they had this tape recorder that they had turned on. That riff the kid played is supposed to be the basis for 'Unholy Confessions.'All these kids on this thread were like, 'I can't believe they did that, that's fucked up. Dude post your version.' The dude's like, 'Oh man, I don't have it anymore.' They still believe him. You've got like thirty or forty kids going, 'fuck Avenged, they steal riffs!'"
Shadows also explained how the band's diverse style, which incorporates metal, punk and classic rock, gets a rather jaded response from certain segments of the hardcore scene, "I know there is a lot of hate out there, but sometimes we go on the road and do a show, and someone will say 'I didn't like you guys before until we saw you guys live and actually listened to your album.' The hardcore scene isn't always too receptive mostly because we're doing pretty well, but we don't give a fuck about what they think, and we don't really give a fuck about their ideals, so they don't like us. All we want to do is play music."
He elaborates, "I used to go to hardcore shows when I was a freshman or in the eighth grade, and there would be guys there like eighteen or so going, 'I really like this fucking band, they bring the fucking mosh.' The problem was, if they were watching a band that could actually sing or bring other things to the table, then they were just like, 'fuck them.' It's just one of those things you don't fight or worry about because it doesn't matter."
