Dimmu Borgir Quebec City Live Photos Posted Online

Quebec-based webzine Capitale du Metalhas uploaded a bunch of photos from DIMMU BORGIR's headlining gig in Quebec City on Tuesday night (July 13). Check them out: Gallery#1, Gallery#2.

Commented Capitale du Metal's Alain Gagnon: "It was an off date from [DIMMU BORGIR]'s Ozzfest participation and they visited our beautiful city along with GOD FORBID and NECRONOMICON. They played an 1:15 set from their last few albums and set the venue on fire as our metalheads are not used to this kind of extreme metal gig in their town ... we usually have to make the 2:30 hour drive to Montreal. GOD FORBID surprised a lot of fans mainly there for DIMMU with songs from their recently released 'Gone Forever' and NECRONOMICON presented their brand new bass player (it was his first live gig with the band), Fredrich, to the Quebec City fans. Both DIMMU and GOD FORBID left town quick after their performance in order to be on time at the next Ozzfest stop in New York."

DIMMU BORGIR's latest album, "Death Cult Armageddon", has sold 53,086 copies in the U.S, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Rhapsody New Album Details

RHAPSODY's forthcoming album, "Symphony Of Enchanted Lands Part 2: The Dark Secret", is due out through SPV in September and follows the recently issued EP, The Dark secret. The tracklisting for the mammoth undertaking by the Italian metallers is as follows: 'The Dark Secret' (featuring spoken bits by actor Chrsitopher Lee), 'Unholy Warcry', 'Never Forgotten Heroes', 'Elgand's Green Valleys', 'The Magic Of The Wizard's Dream', 'Erian's Mystical Rhymes', 'The Last Angel's Call', 'Dragonland's River', 'Sacred Power Of Raging Winds', 'Guardiani', 'Shadows Of Death' and 'Nightfall On The Grey Mountains'.

While recognizable as a Rhapsody record, there are several musical surprises within the grand storyline, apart from orchestra and operatic accompaniment, including a more measured/restrained approach. It's not hyperspeed, neo-classical tempos start to finish.

Arch Nemesis' New Record Deal And Lineup Changes

Norway's Arch Nemesis have posted this message on their official website:

"All right folks, it's about time we updated this site and told you what’s going on. First of, Motvind has decided to leave the band to concentrate fully on his job as axe-man in the mighty Dimension F3h, we are sorry to see him leave as he together with Nesmoht was the founder of the band back in 98' but we wish him all the best in the future, he will still be a part of the Elements Of Metal crew for the future festivals though. On a happier note, Arch Nemesis has just signed a new record-deal with the Norwegian label FaceFront and are happy to join many of the friends we have learned to know trough the years of metal, great Norwegian acts like Griffin, Guardians Of Time, Highland Glory, Backstreet Girls, Trivial Act and Pagan`s Mind are all bands that are or have been a part of FaceFront and we feel honoured to be included in such great company. We are also happy to announce that after weeks of "begging," we finally persuaded Jaz to return to the band, but due to the fact that he will become a father in August, he has made it clear that his family obligations will always be first priority, still, we are glad to have him back.

"So, a new deal is signed and that usually means a record is to be released don’t it? You bet it does, we are just a few weeks away from completing our second album 'Of Mind and Fantasy,' all that remains is some vocal-tracks, then a few days of mixing and mastering, release will be sometime during this fall if all goes well. At the moment we are also searching for a new rehearsal-place, hopefully that will be in place in a few weeks. As soon as that is fixed we will hold auditions looking for one or two new rhythm guitarists so if you feel the call, keep checking the site for dates, you may also send a mail to Nesmoht if you want some info on what kind of persons we are looking for."

Paragon Enter Studio This Weekend

Paragon bassist Jan Bunning has posted this message on the band's official website:

"I first want to thank all the Metalheads from the USA which wrote into our guestbook. We really would love to play in the USA but first we still have no professional distributor in the US and second the last time we tried to arrange something there was no booker who really seemed to be reliable. Anyway - we still working on playing overseas as well as on finding a distribution so please give us some more time!

"The coming weekend we are going to enter the studio to record our tribute songs for the Remedy Records Saxon & Running Wild Tribute albums. From Saxon we will cover '20.000 Feet,' from Running Wild we will NOT cover 'Masquerade' but 'Iron Heads' which was on the famous Deth Metal Sampler and was one of the first songs Running Wild ever recorded. We altered both songs the 'Paragon-Way' and we are sure they will both turn out great. This time we will not go into the Powerhouse Studio but the 'Eike-Studio' of Eike Freese, who also sings 6 plays guitar for Dark Age. We will also make some re-recordings of old 'Chalice Of Steel' songs we will use for the rerelease of our second album 'Final Command.' 'Final Command' will be rereleased later this year on Remedy Records as CD and Picture LP."

W.A.S.P. Frontman Has Some Words For Parents

W.A.S.P. frontman Blackie Lawless recently spoke with the Las Vegas Mercury about his music being slammed in the 1980's and how parents don't want to take any responsibility for their children. As the story goes, Tipper was walking down the hall in her house and her 12-year-old son had Fuck Like a Beast playing on his stereo, and she lost her mind," Lawless says. "I don't know if that's true, but that's the story I've been told."

"You don't have to be Nostradamus to see what's going on with young people these days," he says. "Parents just don't get involved with their kids as much as they used to. Are you going to tell me that these parents at Columbine didn't know that anything was going on with their kids? Hey, my mother knew what I was doing 24 hours a day, seven days a week. But parents now, they don't want to take any responsibility for their children. They bring something into this world, and then when something goes wrong, they want to blame everybody else for it."

Red Harvest US Release Date Announced

Candlelight Records today confirms October 5 as the US release date for the new album from Norway's Red Harvest. "Internal Punishment Programs" is the sixth album from the aggro industrialists.

Norwegian Grammy and Alarm Award nominated, Red Harvest have been releasing records near a decade, with much of their material still out of reach of US fans. This, however, has not stopped the accollades this five-piece have received from outlets big and small. Previously working with Relapse (via license from Nocturnal Art Productions), "Internal Punishment Programs" unites, for the first time, the band with Candlelight for the Americas.

Recorded at Subsonic Society Studios in Oslo and mixed by Fredrik Nordstrom, the album is already confirmed for feature story coverage in Metal Maniacs and the newly published Decibel Magazine. It is expected to be a growing and action-intensive year for this talented and highly revered band. A video for album track “Anatomy of the Unknown” has already been filmed and is expected to hit national and regional outlets in mid-October.

Unlike any of their peers, Norway’s Red Harvest truly are in a class unto themselves. More than mixing industrial and the most extreme metal, their music surgically units the two with such precision and intimate detail it is, for lack of better work, staggering. Where Blut Aus Nord (Candlelight, The Work Which Transforms God) travels the outer regions of a similar musical atmosphere thus blurring the dotted line, Red Harvest drive a stake right through it.

Track listing for "Internal Punishment Programs" is confirmed as Anatomy of the Unknown, Fall of Fate, Abstract Morality Junction, Mekanizm, Symbol of Decay, Teknocrate, Synthesize My DNA, Wormz, 4-4-1-8, Internal Punishment Programs.

Pro-Pain Prepare For Video Shoot

Pro-Pain are in the finishing stages of planning their upcoming video shoot for album track "Left For Dead" from their latest album, "Fistful of Hate." Released April 6, the album has made firm initial sales footage in the US and continues to sell well in anticipation of the band's return to Europe for another round of tour dates this fall. "Left for Dead" will be in filmed on various locations throughout Sarasota, Florida where several of the band members have long made their residence. The clip is expected to be completed and serviced to national and regional video outlets in mid-to-late August, just in time for the band's appearance at the annual World Series of Metal in Cleveland, Ohio. This year's fest, booked for August 28 at the Scene Pavillion, is expected to feature fifty bands including Six Feet Under and possible performance by Mushroomhead.

Since release, Fistful of Hate has found high acclaim with both fan and media outlets. It is without question the band's heaviest and most aggressive album to date. Vocalist/bassist Gary Meskil says, "'Fistful Of Hate' is without question our strongest production and contains some of our best work. It's nice to know that we still have the same drive and passion about our music 12-years post inception and we hope that our fans share in our enthusiasm."

Formed by Meskil (ex-Crumbsuckers), Pro-Pain released their debut Foul Taste of Freedom in 1992. The record was an instant success and has since soundscanned over 60,000 units. Successive albums, The Truth Hurts (1994), Contents Under Pressure (1996) and Propain (1998) saw sales growth continue with combined album sales in the US breaking 100,000 units. The band's last four albums were recorded for Spitfire Records: Round Six (2000), Road Rage Live (2001), Shreds of Dignity (2002), and Run for Cover (2003).

Pro-Pain will return to Europe for additional touring in support of "Fistful of Hate" during the month of September and are actively pursuing US touring opportunities for late fall and winter.

Gardenian and Dimension Zero Members Form New Band

Vocalist Jim Kjell, formerly of the melodic death metal act Gardenian, has joined forces with ex-Dimension Zero & In Flames guitarist, Glenn Ljungström, to create Pitchline.

"I got a new band started together with Glenn Ljungström from Dimension Zero. The new band is called Pitchline. It has a little touch of Gardenian as for the mixture of growls and clean vox, and of course it's melodic. Yet this is harder in some ways. It's more like Soulburner than Sindustries and incorporates some thrashier moments ala Glenn."

Pitchline is slated to enter famed Abyss Studios in November, but do not have a distribution deal in place at the moment.

Jarzimbek: Progressive Metal = "Keyboard Metal"

RON JARZOMBEK, guitar shredmaster of SPASTIC INK and WATCHTOWER (Marty Friedman was a bandmate), has garnered a cult following for his progressive metal guitar eccentricities. However, he is not very inspired by what passes as progressive metal these days. Here is an excerpt from his talk with Electricbasement.com, "...And progressive metal is becoming so stale these days. I don’t even know why they call it progressive metal these days; it’s keyboard metal. That’s what I think they should call it – keyboard metal.

"I read on the Internet they don’t even call Spastic Ink prog metal. They call it math metal. I think that’s because progressive metal is keyboard metal. It’s kind of a drag."

He predicts a demise as well, "I think prog metal is headed to where neo-classical is. You know how that got so burned out? That’s where prog metal is heading. People just seem to want the same stale keyboard shit. We went through the Dream Theater clone phase; now, the whole genre’s become a cliché of itself."

He does show praise for a few newbies such as ZERO HOUR and MESHUGGAH.
