Mourning Beloveth Complete Six Songs For New Album

Irish doom/death metal band MOURNING BELOVETH have finished writing six new songs for their as-yet-untitled third album, tentatively due in early 2005 through Grau Records, a subsidiary of Prophecy Productions. We have not strayed too far from the MOURNING BELOVETH sound but there are a lot of interesting developments in the new music that at least has us excited."

Lullacry To Release New EP In August

Century Media report that LULLACRY, Finland´s leading female-fronted gothic heavy rock act , will release their new EP, Fire Within, through the label on August 23rd.

The release is a warm-up for the recordings of the band’s next album and for their upcoming tour with NIGHTWISH in the US. The EP features two new tracks, ‘Fire Within’ and ‘The #1 Rebel’, plus two remakes of some classic Lullacry tracks and a cover of W.A.S.P.'s ‘L.O.V.E. Machine’.

Guitarist Sami Vauhkonen sends a message to the fans:

"After our last album Crucify My Heart we did many shows in Finland, Italy, USA & Estonia and it brought lots of self-assurance for Tanja. Her voice is now awesome and she is one hell of a rocker! Fire Within is a logical continuation after touring cause it´s a very heavy rockish piece of energy!!!! We had lots of new songs ready in the beginning of 2004, so we decided to release an EP. We had no pressure whatsoever and we just did five songs for it. Two brand new songs and three special semi-acoustic versions of previous LULLACRY material. There´s for example a very beautiful piano version from the song ‘Crucify My Heart’. That song was originally a ballad indeed!!

We are heading to North America to tour with Nightwish in August and straight after that (besides hangover) we´ll start the recordings of the forthcoming full length album. It will be out in Jan 2005 and it will kick your bloody ass!!!!"

Slayer's Kerry King: "Dave Mustaine Is A Dictator"

In a brand-new interview with Guitar World magazine, SLAYER's Kerry King spoke about the time he spent in MEGADETH as the band's touring/live guitarist. Asked how he thinks MEGADETH would have turned out if he had stayed in the group, Kerry replied, "I played their first five shows, and if I had stayed I probably wouldn't have lasted more than a year, because [MEGADETH frontman] Dave Mustaine is such a dictator and had much poppier ideas than me. It never would have worked. Jeff [Hanneman, SLAYER guitarist] and I used to go see METALLICA and be blown away by how awesome Mustaine was, so I was honored when the call came asking me to help him. But after five shows, I was like, 'I'm in SLAYER and that ain't going to change." That didn't go over too well."

Acidtone Rock Download, Set To Rock Oxegen Fest

They may be the youngest performers at Oxegen this weekend, playing on the new bands stage, but if their appearance at heavy metal fest Download is anything to go by, Acidtone could well steal the show. They spoke to Lucy Gollogy

Downpatrick rap-metallers Acidtone have already made rock 'n' roll history by becoming the youngest band ever to play at Download, the UK's biggest heavy metal festival, alongside world-famous acts like Metallica, Linkin Park and Korn.

And singer Adam McKee (13), his brother, bassist Conor (15), their cousin, drummer Conall McKee, and friend, guitarist Philip Hanna, both 15, have been lauded by metal mag Kerrang! as "heirs to the throne".

The upstarts' big break came in January of this year, when they saw off 600 rival bands to win the Wella Shockwaves Unsigned Competition in Dublin's Vicar Street, bagging themselves a professional recording session as part of their prize. More...

Phil Anselmo Speaks Out About Superjoint Ritual

SUPERJOINT RITUAL frontman Philip Anselmo (ex-PANTERA) recently spoke to the Boston Herald about his current band's place in the heavy metal genre.

"There's no band like us right now. Everybody sounds the same, you know," Anselmo said. "There needs to be, for the newer kids, a true hardcore band for them to get into."

The demise of PANTERA is a sore subject with Anselmo, as is the disbanding of his other band, DOWN.

"I'm not really one to live in the past or glorify what I've done in the past," he said.

"(SUPERJOINT) has rejuvenated my attitude, my style and how I feel about music. I'm doing it to have fun for me,"' he explained. "I've played the big stadiums. I've done all that (expletive) before. I'm not one of those people who needs completely to be this gigantic machine that sells platinum records every time and has hits on the radio. I've never needed any of that ever.

"I've been doing it for a long time. I'm physically (expletive) probably the best I've been in seven or eight years. Mentally, I'm 100 percent more at ease," he said. "Right now, SUPERJOINT is the band that I'm having the most, I guess, fun with, at least. It feels really natural."
