Phil Anselmo Speaks Out About Superjoint Ritual
SUPERJOINT RITUAL frontman Philip Anselmo (ex-PANTERA) recently spoke to the Boston Herald about his current band's place in the heavy metal genre.
"There's no band like us right now. Everybody sounds the same, you know," Anselmo said. "There needs to be, for the newer kids, a true hardcore band for them to get into."
The demise of PANTERA is a sore subject with Anselmo, as is the disbanding of his other band, DOWN.
"I'm not really one to live in the past or glorify what I've done in the past," he said.
"(SUPERJOINT) has rejuvenated my attitude, my style and how I feel about music. I'm doing it to have fun for me,"' he explained. "I've played the big stadiums. I've done all that (expletive) before. I'm not one of those people who needs completely to be this gigantic machine that sells platinum records every time and has hits on the radio. I've never needed any of that ever.
"I've been doing it for a long time. I'm physically (expletive) probably the best I've been in seven or eight years. Mentally, I'm 100 percent more at ease," he said. "Right now, SUPERJOINT is the band that I'm having the most, I guess, fun with, at least. It feels really natural."
