Jon Oliva Changes Solo Project To Jon Oliva's Pain

Due to possible trade-name conflicts and to avoid “consumer confusion” with the previously announced band name 'Tage Mahal, the name of Oliva’s solo project has been changed to Jon Oliva’s Pain . The title of the record will be called ‘Tage Mahal . The bands management realized that there is an established blues artist in Europe who has been using a similar band name for decades.

The solo debut release date for Savatage mastermind, Jon Oliva, has been set for October 25 in Europe and October 26th in the US . SPV Records will handle distribution worldwide. SPV has expressed incredible enthusiasm for this release after listening to the final master a few weeks ago. Final artwork and packaging is being completed with a massive promotional campaign to begin shortly. An extensive US and European tour will follow soon after. This record is the first installment of a 3-part series which will be followed by a box set release which will include all 3-releases, a live DVD, along with live and studio outtakes from both the recording sessions and the tours to follow.

Jon Oliva’s Pain will debut the new material live at the sold-out Prog-Power V Metal Festival in Atlanta, Georgia on September 16. Also appearing that night will be a performance by Savatage members, both past and present.

Jeff Pilson's War & Peace To Tour Europe

Jeff Pilson's WAR & PEACE will hit the road to support their latest release "The Walls Have Eyes” on Z Records in Europe.

Pilson has performed as a session bassist and singer on many records over the last decade, and is now focusing on his production work of his longtime project, WAR & PEACE with new CD, "The Walls Have Eyes." With this release, Pilson continues the tradition of heavy melodic rock ala Dokken and Lynch/Pilson, but in this he plays all the instruments and does all the songwriting himself with the exception of the song, "Desperate Hearts", co-written with fellow Rock Star alumni, Jason Bonham. Also featured is a brilliant guitar solo by Italian virtuoso Alex Masi on "Stranger In My Own Land", a track that was also featured on a 2002 charity record for the victims of the September 11, 2001 tragedy.

The following dates have been fully confirmed with hopefully more to follow:

August 27, Paladino's Tarzana, CA USA
August 28, Brick By Brick San Diego, CA USA
September 9, Concord, CA (Venue TBA)
September 10, The Pound SF, San Francisco, CA
September 11, The Roadhouse, Sacramento, CA
September 19th, Z ROCK 2004, Liverpool, UK
September 20th, The Underworld, London, UK

New Mors Principium Est Album Update

Mors Principium Est's new album tentatively entitled "The Unborn" will be recorded in Tico-Tico studio in Finland during the 4 weeks of November 2004. Mastering will take place at Finnvox studios in December 2004 . The cover-art for the album will be done by Mattias Norèn (www.progart.com). The band gave us a little insight about the new material on this new album:
"In comparison to 'Inhumanity,' the new album will take a step towards heavier and somewhat darker atmosphere still containing the overall melodic grasp of music presented. The album is full of diversity and the songs have a slightly more modern approach as in form of sampling and the use of computer programming among Mikkos traditional drumwork. As for the rhythm and solo parts twin-guitars will have the main role and the keyboard continues to colour the backround without being introduced as a soloinstrument on this album either. Villes' growling has developed since 'Inhumanity' and some serious voice control will be heard, also some clean vocals are used but the weight is kept on Villes' throat. Overall, the album shall be an overall solid example of the fact that the "melodic deathmetal" as a sceneis still pretty far from it's possible expiration date"

"The Unborn" is scheduled for a Spring 2005 release.

"I'd like to give you a little update on the STONE SOUR front as we haven't done that in a long time.

1. We have 30 full and partial songs brewing at the moment.

2. Jamey from HATEBREED has expressed his interest in doing a song with us and most definitely will.

3. Plans are being made to start work in September of 2005, or perhaps even earlier, depending on the schedule.

"That's it for now.

"Thank you to everyone for keeping the fires lit while [guitarist] Jim [Root] and I indulge our other passion. Commitment has to be total, and at the moment our commitment is to the 'KNOT. But as soon as we're done touring with SLIPKNOT, it's on. I'm writing, Jim's writing, [guitarist] Josh [Rand] is writing, everyone is gearing up for this.

"Stay tuned."

Lamb of God's "Laid To Rest" Video Online

LAMB OF GOD's video for the their new single, "Laid to Rest", has been made available online in Quicktime format at this location (courtesy of Timecode Entertainment). The clip, which was shot late last month with director Chris Sims (EIGHTEEN VISIONS, POISON THE WELL), features performance footage combined with the conceptual footage that is being described as "frantic and fast-paced so that it matches the intensity of the song itself."

"Laid to Rest" comes off the group's new album, "Ashes of the Wake", due on August 31 through Epic Records. The follow-up to 2003's "As the Palaces Burn" was produced by Machine (WHITE ZOMBIE, (HED)P.E., PITCHSHIFTER, ONE MINUTE SILENCE) and includes guest appearances by former MEGADETH guitarist Chris Poland and ex-TESTAMENT axeman Alex Skolnick.
