Penance Update
American traditional doomsters PENANCE have issued the following update:
"Just wanted to drop a few quick notes about what is going on in the Penance camp these days....
For starters we have begun writing for the follow-up to 'Spiritualnatural'. So far some very cool riff and ideas have come in so we'll see what transpires going from riffs and song
skeletons to the fully fleshed out versions. I know we're all excited to be creative and try some new things not only in what we write but how we write as well. A few tentative song titles include "To Sleep With Anger", "Man of Sorrows", and "Lives Long Past".
Also wanted to mention a few upcoming gigs - we'll be appearing at the 31st Street Pub, Pittsburgh, PA on August 14th with our amigos in Submachine and Orodruin.
We're also scheduled to play at SHOD 6 which we are all very psyched about. We play on September 5th (Sunday).
We hope to have our web-site updated soon with up to date news, pics and stories from our European tour and some new merch items."

We'll be covering a good portion of material from '99 up to the last album, Oculus Infernum, which the legions of South Florida have yet had a proper introduction to. Mortiis New Video To Debut This Weekend
Earache Records report that UK fans get their first chance this weekend to see the brand new MORTIIS video for 'The Grudge' when it will be added to Kerrang! TV in the UK from 22.00 CET this Saturday night.
Shot recently in New York by cult Los Angelean director Charlie Deaux (SYSTEM OF A DOWN, ZOETROPE), ‘The Grudge’ is the first clip to be taken from the album of the same name and is in many ways prime Mortiis, picking up where 2001's 'The Smell Of Rain' left off, whilst offering tantalising hints of the future that Mortiis Era 3 will hold.
'The Grudge' will also be the first ever single from Mortiis and will be on sale on Monday 16th August for one week only. Kerrang TV will be airing the video all week after 22.00 CET each night.
As earlier reported, Mortiis will be teaming up with SUSPERIA for a double headline package under the banner of The Unlimited Grudge Tour 2004. Starting in the UK on 15th September the tour will run through 19 countries finishing in Belgium on 14th November. Dates on The Unlimited Grudge Tour 2004 are as follows: More...

Slayer Guitarist Speaks To KNAC.com
Long time Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman spoke to KNAC.com recently about his start in Slayer, his musical influences, the band's forthcoming DVD, songwriting and a lot more. Here are a few excerpts from the interview:
KNAC.COM: "You don’t do many interviews, so why don’t we start from the beginning. What brought you into Slayer? What tied you in at the beginning?"
HANNEMAN: "Kerry and I met-- I was hanging out with some friends who played… I don’t know what kind of music it was… more like Robin Trower? Bluesy kind of music; and Kerry for some reason was trying out for that band. Me and Kerry got to talking, and he and I picked up a guitar and we started playing with a drummer after the tryout session was over. We were playing Priest and Maiden songs with a drummer, and so Kerry and I started talking after that and Kerry was like, "Why don’t we start our OWN band?" [Laughs] and I was like, "...Fuck yeah!" [Laughs] Eventually—Dave [Lombardo] lived down the street from Kerry, and approached Kerry because he heard that he had guitars, then next thing you know Dave was in the band. Then Kerry said that he'd played in another band with this singer named Tom [Araya], and soon he was in the band. The rest is history."
KNAC.COM: "So as far as the new album, I read that you’re not actually going in until around January because Rubin has changed distributors again."
HANNEMAN: "Once again. So instead of getting the album done and waiting, having it sit on a shelf, fuckin' we’ll just go tour."

Album Update From Kamelot Guitarist
Kamelot guitarist Thomas Youngblood has posted this studio update at the band's official website:
Hello all,
We are nearing the end of our visit to Germany and we are very, very pleased with the sessions. Khan has once again surpassed himself and the vocals are killer! Guitars are quite killer if I do say so myself ;) We are planning some very special appearances on the album but I cannot reveal anymore details yet. We also had a great meeting with SPV Records in Hannover and the plans for the release and World Tour are right on schedule. Some more titles for ya; 'Pride', and a beautiful piano ballad titled 'Abandoned'. We are planning the orchestral players for this one now.
Back soon! Thomas

The Chasm Complete New Album
Mexican deathcult metal lords The Chasm have completed work on their new album, entitled "The Spell Of Retribution" (view cover). Here is a report from Earache Records' website:
Comprising 10 tracks with a running time of over 66 minutes, "The Spell of Retribution" represents The Chasm's most adventurous and ambitious project to date, and firmly sets them apart from the rest of the current Death Metal scene by incorporating purposely lengthy songs dealing with intricate concepts close to the heart of frontman Daniel Corchado.
Recorded at Soto Sound Studios in Illinois and then mixed by Corchado at Lux Inframundis, the album's recording was not without its problems, including at one point a studio fire that set the schedule back and led to the album taking longer than anticipated to complete.
Commenting on the completion of his band's latest opus, Corchado says:
We are definitely very proud to announce the completion of this new chapter, the 7th, in The Chasm's odyssey, after almost 3 months of hard work in the studio and a schedule full of delays and problems, "The Spell of Retribution" has reached the end of it's creative/constructive journey. Armed with a thick, darkened/heavy production, interwoven with what surely is our most complex and destructive material, "The Spell..." is for sure a lengthy and memorable piece of Darkened Heavy Metal that praises Death and certainly is not a one dimensional album, like so many infecting the scene nowadays.
We can assure the true believers of this Cult of Death, and to any fan and follower of this movement, who still feels the darkened flame of this music, that when you hear "The Spell..." you'll encounter a devastating experience, one full of unexpected turns and musical atmospheres presenting controlled chaos and the intense feeling of revenge and inner victory...
