Palehorse Guitarist Passes Away
Palehorse guitarist John Tamas passed away Monday night. Here's a statement from the band:
"A close personal friend, brother, and band mate passed away yesterday. There are no words to express the shock and despair we are all feeling right now. John Tamas grew up with all of us to the tune of 15+ years. He was a part of the Connecticut Hardcore scene for the past 12 years and has made a lasting impact in all of our lives. We would like to send our utmost gratitude to those who have been there for us in this tragic time. Your words, emails, phone calls, and tears have reopened our eyes to hardcore and what hardcore is all about. We have been surrounded by loved ones all day. Thank you so much."
A benefit show is being planned for September. According to Palehorse, "it will be bands from the time when we began going to shows. Bands that John loved and a show that John would have been proud to play." Additionally, the band is selling a limited edition 7", which will feature the only songs Tamas recorded with the band. Proceeds from both the 7" and benefit show will go to Tamas' mother to help with expenses.

Seeking Diecast Volkswagon Commercial
This is old news, but also a request. If you haven't seen the Volkswagon commercial featuring Diecast's "Rise and Oppose," then go check it out here (fourth ad-thumbnail). I laughed out loud when I first saw the commercial on TV, and it's cool to have good extreme music make an entrance into mainstream media even if it's as a joke of sorts.
I am looking for a copy of this commercial that can be downloaded in any video format (or flash) available for the PC. Please post the URL in the comments for my eternal gratitude.
Manes' EP, New Album Update
The tracks set to appear on the upcoming EP will be two new Manes bangers, covers of 16 Horsepower and Duran Duran, two remixes done by the US noise-guru Cordell Klier and another remix done by DJ Don Tomasso. The next full Manes album, given the working title "Invention - or how the world came to an end and why we did it", is now in pre-production, and the recording is set to start late summer 2005.
In related news, The Manes "1993-1994" LP is now released via Kyrck Productions. It consists of the two first Manes demos ("Maanens Natt" '93 and "Ned i Stillheten" '94) remastered together on heavy quality vinyl. It is limited to 600 copies w/12-page booklet in silver print, and the first 100 copies will also include an embroidered Manes patch. You can find more info here.
The song "Turn (simulation edit)", previously only released on the compilation-cd enclosed with the German magazine Mørkeskye #10, has now been uploaded at www.manes.info. The basic elements on this song was recorded at the same time as the pre-prod done for the album "Vilosophe" back in 2002, but some additional recording and mixing was done in late 2004.
Manes was started around the end of 92/early 93 and features, among others, members from bands like 3rd and the Mortal, Atrox and Chton. Manes has played live with bands like Isis, Katatonia, Red Harvest, Madder Mortem and Theater of Tragedy, and has played festivals like Quart, Inferno, Hole In The Sky and Southern Discomfort.

Mustaine Sues Former Bassist Ellefson
The Asssociated Press has issued the following report:
MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine has sued the band's former bass player, David Ellefson, for allegedly using the name of the group without permission in an advertisement for musical equipment.
The suit filed Monday (July 25) in Superior Court by Mustaine claims he and Ellefson entered into a settlement agreement in February that restricts the guitarist's use of the band name.
"Ellefson shall not use, or authorize anyone else to use, the work or mark 'MEGADETH" to advertise, market or promote any person, band, company, organization, product or services without MEGADETH's prior express written permission," according to the lawsuit.
Mustaine said an ad in this month's issue of Bass Player features Ellefson holding a pedal tuner for bass guitars and includes the names of several bands he is involved with — including MEGADETH.
Mustaine is seeking unspecified compensatory, punitive and exemplary damages.
MEGADETH was founded in 1983 and released a greatest hits album, "Back to the Start" last month. Ellefson appeared on albums from 1985 to 2002 until he got into a disagreement with Mustaine and refused to rejoin the band last year.
Cold Tour Dates Announced
Launch Radio Networks reports: Florida-based band COLD has announced some dates to promote its upcoming fourth album, "A Different Kind Of Pain", which is due out on August 30. COLD frontman Scooter Ward went through all kinds of pain before making the disc: his fiancée left him, he entered rehab, two guitarists departed COLD, and the band split with its label. Worst of all, Ward's sister was given two months to live in a battle with cancer. Ward told Launch that writing the new record helped him get through this very rough patch. "Every song that I wrote, I'd go, 'I'm gonna make every song make me feel better, and when that song's done, I'm gonna feel better about myself and the situation that I've created,'" he said. "And it happened, and every song kept helping me. It made me stronger and helped me get through the drugs and all that stuff and the rehab and started changing my life. By the time the record was done, my life was good."
Ward says that his sister's illness is now in remission.
COLD revamped its lineup and signed a new deal with Lava/Atlantic Records last year.
The first single from "A Different Kind Of Pain" is called "Happens All The Time". Listen to it online at this location.
Confirmed COLD tour dates (festival or support slots):
Aug. 18 - Portland, OR - Dew Action Sports Vans Invitational
Aug. 19 - Seattle, WA - White River Amphitheatre
Sep. 09 - Burgettstown, PA - Post Gazette Pavilion
Sep. 10 - Indianapolis, IN - Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre

While CBGBs has been a neighbor in good standing with the community for 31 years, they still need to secure a new lease by August 31, 2005 and are planning a month of benefits. The goal of these events is to help generate support and momentum for a quick and fair resolution for a renewed lease.
In addition to the already announced benefit shows scheduled for August, CBGB has added RAW POWER and THE MISFITS, among other artists.
To learn more, visit www.savecbgb.org. To take action, sign the official Save CBGB petition, and receive updated news about this battle.
