Stone Sour Slams Pop-Culture In New Video
STONE SOUR are currently preparing to hit the road with Korn and Deftones on The Family Values Tour, beginning on July 29 in Nashville, TN as the August 1 release of their album COME WHAT(EVER) MAY approaches. The band’s Top 20 Modern Rock single “Through Glass” continues to build strongly at radio and its video is sure to hit a nerve with some of today’s pop culture icons. STONE SOUR--lead vocalist COREY TAYLOR and guitarist JAMES ROOT (who do double duty in multi-platinum, Grammy winners Slipknot), bassist SHAWN ECONOMAKI, guitarist JOSH RAND and drummer ROY MAYORGA--will debut the song live on national television Thursday, August 8 when they perform on NBC-TV’s The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.
For the song’s video, STONE SOUR worked with director Tony Petrossian (Slipknot, Avenged Sevenfold, Head Automatica) to create a potent visual that assails the ever-growing plastic celebrity culture. In the clip--shot at a Chatsworth, CA hilltop home previously owned by Frank Sinatra--stereotypical caricatures of celebrity and entertainment industry figures are seen at a party as members of STONE SOUR wander throughout the house. C.C. Deville (of Poison fame and more recently of The Surreal Life on VH1) has a cameo as one of the revelers. The members of the band stand in sharp contrast to the farce playing out around them. The artificiality of the celebrities and industry types is underlined when they literally transform into cardboard cutouts of themselves and are picked up and carried away by stagehands. The video storyline ends with STONE SOUR performing alone in front of a sign that captures it all: “HOLLOWOOD.”
The song itself--with its reference to “An epidemic of the mannequins contaminating everything”--began when TAYLOR was “sitting in a European hotel room watching a music video channel,” he says. “I just remember seeing act after act of this inane, innocuous, plastic music. They were bubbly gossamer-thin groups, where it was really more about the clothes they wore and the length of their cheekbones than it was about the content of the song they were singing. ‘Through Glass’ is really a very angry song. It’s me basically calling ‘bullshit’ on pretty much everyone involved with the ‘American Idol’-type shows. It has its place, but when you’re basically cornering the market and making it very hard for anyone who actually writes their own music to get ahead, then it's wrong and that’s really why I wrote this song.”
The public’s fixation on the lives of celebrities and plastic culture, as reflected in the video, is distracting people from focusing on society’s real problems, TAYLOR feels. “People are realizing now--a little too late--that they let the administration get away with things that are unconstitutional, including pardoning their white collar crime friends. A brain can only take so much before you say, ‘Good God, I need to wrap my head around something that I can deal with.’ So people go to these innocuous magazines that show the glamorous life. They want to see celebrities’ lifestyles; they don’t want to know what celebrities think for the most part. They don’t want them to be socially conscious because then they have to realize that there is a problem. ”

Pillory Replacing Vocalist
Pillory has amicably parted ways with vocalist Putrid Pete. Pete will perform with the band on all currently booked shows.
The group is currently seeking a new full-time vocalist. According to the band, "Ideally, we would like someone with a strong hardcore styled voice, with the ability to do death/guttural growls, but we are open minded. Prior band and live experience is strongly preferable. Psychotic stage presence and offensive babbling between songs is a bonus."
Candidates must be able to practice 2-3 times a week, do shows on a "weekend warrior" basis, have a good work ethic, and preferably live in/near Boston.
Interested parties should contact Chris at cdanecek@rcn.com.
Metallica Ends iTunes Holdout
Billboard.com reports that Metallica, one of the biggest acts yet to make its music available for sale via Apple's iTunes Music Store, has ended its holdout. Beginning yesterday (July 25), the enduring hard rock outfit's work is for sale via the U.S. and Canada editions of the digital store.
Metallica albums have previously been available for download via services such as MSN Music, but have never been broken up for single-song purchase until now. At iTunes, the group's first four albums ("Kill 'Em All," "Ride the Lightning," "Master of Puppets" and "...And Justice for All") have been expanded with previously unreleased live tracks recorded in Seattle in 1989.
"We chose these four because, unlike the more recent releases, we were only capable of writing 8-9 songs for each of these albums," the band writes on its Web site.
The iTunes rollout only includes the U.S. and Canada for now, due to a dispute with Metallica's overseas record label, Mercury. The company "doesn't seem to want to play ball with us on this at the moment," the band says.
Among the other major artists who have yet to come to an agreement with iTunes are the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Radiohead and Garth Brooks.

We won't be bringing any opening bands over to Russia as it is a fly-in. We very much look forward to this tour as it is our first in Europe since 2003. The festivals this summer have been amazing and have really left us lusting for more. The new material undoubtedly goes down extremely well live we've experienced, and for this tour we also plan to bring forth some old songs that we have never played live before.
Pre-sales are up and running all over the place. Visit the website of your local venue for details on how to buy tickets."

Seether Frontman Enters Rehab
SEETHER frontman Shaun Morgan has checked himself in to an undisclosed rehabilitation center after having "admitted to himself and those close to him that he needs help and is making the proactive move to seek it," according to a press release from the band's label, Wind-Up Records. Following scheduled appearances this week, all future plans have been placed on hold until further notice.
Morgan, who has established himself as one of the leading singers in rock over the past five years, has made a personal choice to attack what he sees as a dependence on a combination of substances. The band had planned to tour in August with STAIND behind their recently released live acoustic album "One Cold Night". The opportunity to perform this repertoire in an acoustic setting is something the band hopes to do at some point in the future.
Morgan commented, "I'm deeply sorry that this news comes right before a planned tour, especially one that I was so excited about, and I hope that everyone understands. I need help with addictions that I can't kick on my own. These things are making me sick, and could potentially harm me permanently, so I need to take care of them as soon as possible. I hope the tour goes well, and we hope to be on the road again soon. Thank you again for your understanding and support."
Over the last two years, SEETHER has performed in excess of four hundred shows. Compounded with the stresses of promoting and supporting the "Karma & Effect" album, and then recording and promoting "One Cold Night" without any form of an extended hiatus, Morgan "has spread himself too thin and in turn made decisions he now regrets," according to the press release.

First Ever Radio Rebellion Tour Announced
The first-ever RADIO REBELLION TOUR 2006 Presented by Hurley, Smartpunk.com, Nike 6.0, Fuel TV and Hot Topic is set to kick off October 6 in Nashville.
Showcasing cutting-edge artists who’ve built a massive grassroots fanbase without the help of commercial radio, RADIO REBELLION TOUR 2006 signifies the shift in how today’s youth discovers and identifies new music and lifestyle trends through the media and the Internet. The inaugural eight-week trek will visit 45 cities throughout the U.S. and Canada between October 6 and December 2. Stay tuned for the fall 2006 itinerary to be announced soon.
Tickets will first be available via the tour’s Internet pre-sale beginning nationwide on August 15 at 9:00AM PST via www.musictoday.com. In addition, the RADIO REBELLION TOUR 2006 CD sampler will be distributed at Hot Topic stores nationwide as well as on the remaining Vans Warped Tour ’06 dates.
“The idea behind Radio Rebellion is simple. We created a tour that showcases artists who’ve achieved some solid commercial success without the traditional drivers of commercial radio,” says Graham Day, founder of Smartpunk.com and tour partner/sponsor. “Some of the Radio Rebellion artists have now sold a few hundred thousand records without having a single spin on commercial radio. We’ve witnessed first-hand the power of this new breed of artist as well as their tight connection with their very active fan-base and now we’re offering these bands that fans want to see in an intimate and ideal environment.”
NORMA JEAN will headline the tour, which also includes BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME, FEAR BEFORE THE MARCH OF FLAMES, MISERY SIGNALS and revolving openers THE FULLY DOWN and THE CONFESSION.
“The Radio Rebellion Tour is representing a small portion of bands who are doing something different in the music industry as a whole without having a lot or any radio play at all,” says NORMA JEAN lead vocalist Cory Brandon. “The truth is, I think radio should conform to what bands like us are doing, instead of us conforming to what they’re currently playing just to get on the radio. It doesn't and shouldn't work like that in music. We’re making headway without their support and we’re not at all against the idea of heavier bands having radio play, but this doesn’t and won't change what we are doing artistically whatsoever
