Zakk Wylde Talks About Ozzy's Upcoming Album

Ozzy Osbourne is readying his 15th solo album and Billboard.com talked to guitarist Zakk Wylde about it.

"There's a bunch of kick-ass stuff on there," said Wylde. "It is just ass-kicking, heavy stuff, and we've got the ballads, some piano stuff and some acoustic stuff."

Wylde's Black Label Society is headlining the tour's second stage, and the guitarist is also playing with Osbourne on the select dates the former Black Sabbath frontman is doing on the tour.

He says "It would've been great if we got [Osbourne's album] done before the Ozzfest, but it's like trying to cram three pounds of crap into a two-pound leaking bag, if you know what I mean. There's not enough hours in the day to get everything done."

"But right now it's coming out slamming. I think once the Ozzfest is done, Ozz can start writing at home in the studio and start knocking vocals out." The as-yet-untitled album is Osbourne's first featuring all original material since 2001's "Down to Earth."

Zakk Wylde will release Black Label Society's sixth album, "Shot to Hell," on Sept. 19. Wylde, who co-produced the set with Michael Beinhorn, cracks that the title refers to "what happens to our kidneys, livers and pancreas, being out on the road with Black Label."

Interview

Interview With Mick From Soldiers Of Scrape

Detroit, Michigan's Soldiers Of Scrape started under the initial band moniker of Bowlscraper and after releasing a couple EP's, including an impressive debut full length, 2004's "Red Hair Revolution", are soon due to follow up their most recent release, "Scrape The Nation" a 4 song EP from December, 2005. They have begun to make everyone else around the underground metal scene take notice. This is band that is rolling hard and heavy from one local venue to the next with their deliberate thrash/stoner brand of high-octane music that even the most extreme metal fan will have difficulty shaking upon first listen. They are not your proto-typical metal band, though they certainly incorporate elements from many of the most available sub-genres, like thrash and hardcore. Soldiers Of Scrape seem to have found themselves at their own little private spot on a heavy metal island way the hell off in the Pacific somewhere, not concerned with any of the current trends and just purely doing what they do best, letting the energy and explosiveness of their unique form of heavy music do its own talking. Soldiers Of Scrape are one of the best kept and most refreshing secrets in the underground today. Their friendly lead vocalist, Mick, took some time to answer some of my questions. So enough of the introduction, let's scrape that bowl, shall we? More...

Scum of the Earth Begin Preproduction On New Album

Scum of the Earth, featuring x-Rob Zombie guitarist RIGGS have begun pre-production on their follow-up to the successful debut album, "Blah...Blah...Blah... Love Songs for the New Millennium." The new album is planned to be released by Eclipse Records in late 2006. The band states on their official website that "We have started pre-production for the new scum CD. There are 8 songs finished so far, and it's turning out to be a bone-crushing, stripper extravaganza... We have a temp title of SLEAZE FREAK, among others. Check back soon for more updates...".

Label president Chris Poland says, "I have heard some demo tracks of 3-4 tunes that Riggs emailed me on mp3 and i have to say I haven't stopped playing them on my PC. They are the sickest guitar grinds and go-go beats I have heard yet from this amazing musician who's creativity seems to know no boundaries. While some are heavy and pulse-oriented as you might expect, others are quite eerie and almost surreal in nature, a true contrast from song to song, and I just can't wait to hear the finished product. I know the legions of fans will be pleased with the end result."

You can download an MP3 of "Murder Song" from the band's debut release here.

"Real" Supernova Sues "Rock Star: Supernova"

Chris Harris of MTV.com is reporting that nine days before the July 5 broadcast premiere of Mark Burnett's "Rock Star: Supernova" on CBS, the three members of Orange County, California, punk trio SUPERNOVA — who formed back in 1989 and released four albums, including 2000's "Pop as a Weapon" — filed a lawsuit against the show's producers, charging trademark infringement.

The lawsuit, filed in federal court in San Diego, names Mark Burnett Productions, Rockstar Entertainment Inc. and CBS Broadcasting as defendants, along with Tommy Lee, Jason Newsted and Gilby Clarke — the three future members of the group this season's "Rock Star" is supposed to spawn and endow with a lead singer. After someone's chosen to front the band, the foursome will eventually record and release fresh material before touring the nation, all under the SUPERNOVA moniker.

Stone Sour Ready Album For Release, Post MP3s

Stone Sour, who are readying their new album, "Come What(ever) May" for release on August 1 through Roadrunner Records, have released a slew of promotional media and a MP3s (links follow) including full MP3s of the first two singles "30/30-150" and "Reborn."

"As soon as the fans hear this new record, they'll see it's different from anything that we have ever done," says frontman Corey Taylor. "It gives me a chance to do the singing that I love to do, the type of singing that I do when I'm walking around my house." Elaborating on how STONE SOUR differs from his work in Slipknot he reveals "With Stone Sour, I loosen up and show more of myself."

Guitarist Rand believes that the diversity of "Come What(ever) May" will be what hooks fans, and what keeps them. "This album's content will fit any mood you may be in," the guitarist says. "If you've had a bad day at work, you could crank 'Hell And Consequences.' If you need a little optimism, you could listen to 'Through Glass.' If you are feeling depressed, you could listen to 'Zzyzx Road.'"

Guitarist ROOT, who contends that life itself influenced this album, sees "Come What(ever) May" as a necessary evolution in the band's sound. "We're taking every aspect to the next level. As an artist, no matter what you do, you must evolve. That's very important to me. Some people fear change. I embrace it. This record is a testament to where I am at, musically and spiritually."
