Anam Cara Breaking Up
On the heels of the announcement that their summer tour has been cancelled, Anam Cara has announced that they're breaking up. The Floridian hardcore/metal outfit released an album with Strike First Records in April. Here's a statement from the band:
"Anyone that has been following this band or any of our friends will know that we've been through a lot with Anam Cara. Since the EP was released we've struggled with member changes, shaky tours, and this year the accident was the biggest obstacle for us to get over. We've always come through things but after the accident we've had mounting debts and unsuccessfull tours that have taken a large toll on us. After a lot of thought and discussion, we've decided to call it quits for Anam Cara. There is no hard feelings between any of the members. This is just the best decision for us.
This band has been 4 years running and we're so happy for the friends we've made and the opportunities that have been given to us, but it's time for us to move on to other things. *Keep an eye out for new projects we will be working on.*
We will still be playing the show in Xlearwater at the 688 on the 16th and it will be one of our last shows at home. We'll be announcing a small regional tour through florida and our last show as soon as they're booked."

Maiden Bassist Decides Against Mastering New Album
Producer Kevin Shirley (IRON MAIDEN, DREAM THEATER) has posted the following message on his official web site:
Spoke to 'Arry [IRON MAIDEN bassist Steve Harris] on Friday, who has decided against mastering the IRON MAIDEN album, and I'm quite pleased about that, although I did like the mastering job we did in [New York City]. It means that you will get to hear the new album exactly as it sounded in the studio, no added EQ, compression, analog widening, etc., and I must say, I am pretty happy with the end result. I think some tracks could use a smidge more top end, and others a bump of bottom — but I know 'Arry well enough now to know how wary of outsiders he is, and I fully expected he may have done that, so I made sure I was happy with the results when I printed the mixes in the studio. So, that'll fire you guys on the BB's right up, no doubt! :)
"He's off taking a break before all hell breaks loose and the Beast is back on the road, and I, for one, plan to see the shows when they hit the States in the fall. Just a word of advice, make sure you've listened to the album a number of times before you come to a show — it'll make the concert experience unforgetable!"
As previously reported, the cover artwork for IRON MAIDEN's upcoming album, "A Matter of Life and Death", has been posted online.
"A Matter of Life and Death" is scheduled for release in early September via EMI. The album's first single, "The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg", will precede the album on August 14.
"A Matter of Life and Death" was recorded at Sarm West Studios in London with producer Kevin Shirley, who also worked on the last two MAIDEN albums, 2000's "Brave New World" and 2003's "Dance of Death".
The complete track listing for both the single and the album is as follows: More...

Interview
Interview With Scott Mills Of Life In Shadow
Bolingbrook, Illinois' death metal act, Life In Shadow, has a purely unique sound in a genre, much like black metal, that seems to have pretty much run its course at this point. The band consists of Scott Mills on lead guitar/backup vocals, Mark Ebbers on lead vocals, S810 on rhythm guitar, Mark Jenkins on bass/backup vocals and Josh Abbott on drums. They have been steadily creating quite a commotion this year on the true metal underground scene. They are being embraced by hundreds upon thousands of fans, be it on the road or on the web at their MySpace music profile and seem to be putting themselves in a very strong position now moving forward to climb to the top of their genre as one of death metal's hottest indepenent acts. I spent some time recently doing Q&A with their lead guitar player, Scott Mills.

Tom Araya: Slayer's Lyrics Are "Just Words"
Jenny Feniak of the Edmonton Sun recently conducted an interview with SLAYER frontman Tom Araya. A few excerpts from the interview follow:
On being "the most evil band in the world":
"It's all about the cool factor - that's the main point. If something we find is really cool and gory and graphic, we'll go with it."
On being still at the top of its game 25 years after the band's inception:
"Our vision of how we see the band has been the same; that's never altered. We've never shied away from what we initially started this band as, but we have grown in all aspects of that."
On the band's early days:
"It sounded amazing, so I was in. It was easy as that. They [Kerry, Jeff and Dave] were into it; we knew the songs, you know. It's kind of hard to find a group of guys that serious about that.
"We didn't want to look like all the hair bands that were coming out at the time.
"We didn't want to look like girls; we wanted to look like a bunch of guys putting on makeup like guys. That was a must.
"So we did everything completely opposite of that, which included the dark image, you know, that whole Satan vibe. And our first album being Side 6 Side 66, people were really freaking out over that."
On possible issues between his Catholic faith and the band's subject matter:
"Kerry's written some really far-out shit. If it's a good song, I'm not one that's going to go, 'This sucks because it's contrary to my beliefs.' To me it's more like, 'This is really good stuff. You're going to piss people off with this.'
"People have these heavy issues and ask, 'Isn't this a problem for you?' and no. I'm well-rounded, I have a really strong belief system and these are just words and they'll never interfere with what I believe and how I feel.
"People are not in good shape to where they have to question their own belief system because of a book or a story somebody wrote, or a SLAYER song."
On the current metal scene:
"(Metal's) like a serpent that comes up out of the water and you see all his ripples and his humps, and then he goes back down into the water to brood for a while and then he comes back up.
"I think right now it's at its momentum. It's above water and it's cruising for awhile.
"Give it a couple years and it'll go back down again and then it will become an underground thing, and then all the kids in the new generation will discover the bands that started it all, and then there'll be reunions...."
