Repulsion Making Progress With DVD Release

Guitarist Matt Olivo of the reunited death metal/grindcore pioneers REPULSION has issued the following update on the band's current activities:

"Scott Carlson [bass, vocals] has recorded vocals for Nicke Andersson's [ex-ENTOMBED, currently in THE HELLACOPTERS] DEATH BREATH project. This album will be fucking badass for all of you old schoolers out there....heavy, fucking raw ass death metal in the style of DEATH, REPULSION, BATHORY, VENOM, etc. Matt Olivo provided record engineering for Scott's vocal takes. Both Scott and I are very proud to be a part of this project and look forward to its success.

"New kids CRETIN have an album recently released. This slab is indeed the sickest, rawest, fastest shit to hit human ears since 'Horrified'. Pick it up or die! The group features Col Jones (EXHUMED, DEKAPITATOR, REPULSION), Matthew Widener and Dan Martinez.

"Matt Harvey's side project DEKAPITATOR has finished recording a new album. They're current shopping it around for a fall release. Let's keep our swords crossed for these true metal brothers!

"DEJECTA's recording of CELTIC FROST's 'Visions of Mortality' is featured on CF's webpage tribute page.

"On the DVD front we have made progress with our legal issues and continue to push to release this thing [as soon as possible]!"

REPULSION's upcoming DVD, "Necrothology: Vomitus Visions from the Vault", will feature cover artwork by Stefan Thanneu.

Shining Finish Recording New Album

Niklas Kvarforth, vocalist/keyboardist for the reactivated Swedish black metallers SHINING, has issued the following update:

"Though many have doubted - us as well as other parties involved - the recording session of our forthcoming fifth album have now reached its end, and at this very moment being mixed by producer Rickard Bengtsson [ARCH ENEMY]. Hearing the result now, after nearly three months of active creativity, we must say that the outcome is shocking - never before have we crossed so many lines both musically as well as lyrically and altogether this is by far the darkest, most sinister piece of work we've ever managed to put on tape to date (although we will certainly loose 95% of old and present fans). As soon as the mixing sessions are done, we will post a brand new track here on the [official] website so that you may get a small taste of what's to come."

In Aeternum, Rotting Christ To Tour The US

Swedish death/black metallers IN AETERNUM will be embarking on a two-week U.S. co-headlining tour with ROTTING CHRIST beginning on November 16, 2006. Support on the trek will come from RESUSCITATOR. "The plan for the tour is to start on the East Coast and play most of the bigger cities to finish on the West Coast in early December," IN AETERNUM write on their web site.

"This tour will mark the first USA appearance for IN AETERNUM in more or less six years. The band has been promised to play a set of 60 minutes, so you better get prepared for a strong set of fucking classic armageddon metal of death!"

IN AETERNUM are currently writing material for their fifth album. The new songs are said to be "in the classic IN AETERNUM style. . .The rough solo parts sounds really cool, a bit like old-style MORBID ANGEL solos. The new guitar player Erik Kumpulainen is really giving his best while bending those insane tunes."

IN AETERNUM recently announced the addition of Kumpulainen and bassist Claes Ramberg to the group's ranks. The band's fourth album, "Dawn Of A New Aeon", was released last year via Agonia Records.

Canadian Black Metal Arsonists Receive Jail Time

Dean Pritchard of The Winnipeg Sun has issued the following report:

A fire that razed the 105-year-old Minnedosa United Church last winter was a hate crime sparked by a hatred of Christianity and a love of black metal music, a court heard yesterday (June 27).

Kelsey Ray Taylor, Deanna Lynn Mathews and Mark Wishart (view photo) shared an "ideology of desecration" that destroyed a community landmark and rocked the faith of local church members, Crown attorney Jim Ross said at the trio's sentencing hearing.

"They share an ideology that people of faith are the enemy," Ross said. "They targeted a church for destruction because it's a symbol."

All three pleaded guilty to arson earlier this year.

The Minnedosa fire had clear links to a worldwide arson movement inspired by a Norwegian black metal musician, Ross told court.

The church was set ablaze on the birthday of Varg Vikernes, a black metal musician now serving time in prison in Norway for murdering a bandmate and burning several churches.

Vikernes has inspired dozens of copycat church burnings around the world, a list that now includes the Minnedosa United Church, Ross said.

The night of the fire, Taylor, 21, and Mathews, 19, a California native and Taylor's girlfriend of two weeks, visited Wishart, 20, in Minnedosa. After drinking awhile in a cemetery, Wishart suggested they burn down the church, Ross said. Taylor, reluctant to lose face, agreed, and the trio drove to Wishart's grandmother's home where they picked up a can of gasoline.

W.A.S.P. Cancel European Tour

W.A.S.P. manager Daniel Stanton of Coallier Entertainment has issued the following statement:

"W.A.S.P. regrets to announce the postponement of the upcoming European festivals in July. While doing a routine physical, singer Blackie Lawless was diagnosed with an abnormality in one of the arteries leading to his heart [W.A.S.P.'s management stresses that Blackie **DID NOT** suffer a heart attack, as was erroneously reported on several Turkish web sites — Ed.]. Doctors have advised Blackie to not travel for the next 30 days to avoid complications from the medications prescribed to him. Blackie is doing fine and has had no physical damage in any way, but the postponement of the upcoming shows is very necessary to avoid any possible complications. Blackie wishes to thank all those who are concerned for him and cannot wait for the word tour that begins later this year. In his own words, Blackie says, 'I have been extremely lucky to be able to avoid a problem that could have been potentially life threatening years down the road if I hadn't been fortunate enough to be diagnosed early. Thanks to that I have avoided a potential serious problem!" The doctors say Blackie will be good as new in just a few weeks!! More...

Hatebreed Plan Headlining Tour After Ozzfest

Hatebreed will headline a full U.S. tour set to commence in September and run through October. The bill will feature support from the Black Dahlia Murder throughout, plus Napalm Death, Exodus, First Blood and Despised Icon. "We've never gone out on a headline run immediately following Ozzfest, and we've always wanted to, and we always felt we needed to, but there were always plans that superseded that," frontman Jamey Jasta said. "We're taking out a very extreme bill. We're going to call it maybe the Monsters of Mosh, something crazy like that. But it will be a good way for us to give back to the underground, extreme scenes, and also for us to go out and headline for the first time in a long, long time and do a full hour-and-a-half set with our new staging and new gear."

The Blood Brothers Reveal Album Details

The Blood Brothers have confirmed the title and U.S. release date of their fifth album: Young Machetes will be released October 10, 2006 on V2.

Already named one of Alternative Press' Most Anticipated Albums of 2006, Young Machetes was recorded at Robert Lang Studios in the band's native Seattle with the help of producers Guy Piccioto (late of Fugazi) and John Goodmanson (Sleater-Kinney, The Gossip, Blonde Redhead), who produced the band's acclaimed 2004 release Crimes.

The Blood Brothers' previous effort Crimes -described by Vice as "sex at the speed of sound" and moving URB to declare "Any hope for America's young starts here"-pushed the envelope of the Blood Brothers' sound further than ever while resulting in the band's most focused work to date. With the surprisingly sing-along anthemic chorus of single "Love Rhymes With Hideous Car Wreck" and the blistering groove of "Teen Heat," the album earned rave reviews from magazines ranging from Stuff (who gave the album 4-stars) to Blackbook to Spin to Resonance.

The complete but unsequenced track listing for Young Machetes is: "Set Fire To The Face On Fire," "We Ride Skeletal Lightning," "Lazer Life," "Camouflage Camouflage," "You're The Dream, Unicorn!" "Vital Beach," "Rat Rider," "Spit Shine Your Black Clouds," "1,2,3,4 Guitars," "Lift The Veil, Kiss The Tank," "Nausea Shreds Your Head," "Johnny Ripper/Stevie Ray Hendrixson," "Huge Gold AK-47," "Street Wars, Exotic Foxholes," "The Giant Swan."

Look for a Fall tour announcement in the coming weeks.

"Bay Area doom metal masters Asunder have completed work on their highly anticipated full-length album. Entitled Works Will Come Undone, the new album will showcase why Asunder are one of the most important doom metal bands in the scene today. Dwelling within the realms of avant-garde experimental death/funeral doom, Works Will Come Undone was produced by legendary helmsman Billy Anderson and presents an epic and mournful sonic landscape of somber layered sounds where lush crawling melodies are weaved amongst ritualistic chants and monolithic rhythms of despair and triumph. Works Will Come Undone also features the cello expertise of AMBER ASYLUM’S Jackie Gratz, and features the artwork of respected artist David D’Andrea (www.sonofenoch.com). To be presented in a specially cased pocket-slip digipack, Works Will Come Undone shall penetrate the cracks of light early-to-mid October. Comprised of two tracks clocking in at a mammoth length of 50 minutes, tracklisting for Works Will Come Undone goes as follows: 'A Famine', 'Rite Of Finality'."

Green Carnation Issue Post-Quart Festival Report

Norwegian prog metal masters GREEN CARNATION have posted the following message on their official web site:

"Warming up on Wednesday at Kick, with an all-acoustic set, GREEN CARNATION for the first time introduced their new found cooperation with Anne Marie Amedal — as a surprise to the 100-150 people that were chilling out in the heat. She contributed both on 'Transparent Me' — as on the 'Burden' EP, and she also did harmonies for the last song on the track, Stein Roger Sordal's beautiful 'The Burden is Mine...Alone'.

The set list from the acoustic showcase:
01. Alone
02. Sweet Leaf
03. My Greater Cause
04. Transparent Me
05. The Burden is Mine...Alone

"The following day, GREEN CARNATION played in front of more than 2000 people in their own home town, Kristiansand, here representented with Michael. The show was the first GREEN CARNATION show in their hometown for more than one year, and the feedback from both the press and the crowd was extremely good."

Commented bassist Stein Roger Sordal: "There has been so much more attention around the band this time. Mind you — we did play the Quart Festival also in 2003, after the release of the 'Blessing' album, but this was a whole new experience for us."
