Mind Piece Gives Update, Seeking New Singer
Following many months of inactivity, New York hardcore band Mind Piece has issued an update. Here's a statement from the group:
"It's been almost a year to the day since we played a show (a real show). There's been a lot of talk, there's been a lot of hype, a lot of misconceptions, and there have been a lot of questions. Something came to our attention within the past two weeks, pissed us off, and prompted us to write this blog. So here it is:
"Mind Piece started in July '06 with three members. We wrote the six song demo and worked on those songs for months before eventually inviting our vocalist into the band. There were a slew of things that started to slow the band down, right about the time we were finishing up our tour in November of '07 with Terror. The first was getting our name dragged into a particular problem between people in New York. Mind Piece as a band never had any crew affiliation. Some minor conflicts and disagreements between band members about shows and whatever else added to the tension. At the time two of us were in school full time (we bullshitted/convinced our professors to let us go on tour for a week and half and we still passed somehow), and one of us was eating cheese sandwiches and grits behind bars for a short time (show up to your court date kids). Because of all this we became discouraged with hardcore and as a band in general. We decided to go on a hiatus to deal with whatever bullshit we faced as a band as well as individually (finishing school, etc.).
"During this hiatus our vocalist tried to take over the band in a number of ways. We started seeing flyers listing Mind Piece and even 'Mind Piece (Last Show)' at an out of state show (a surprise to the three of us each time). This was among tons of other ridiculous bullshit, like him changing our name without telling us. Recently it's come to our attention that Mind Piece played a four-song set in Long Island, and apparently this Mind Piece cover band was preparing to play a winter tour. The three original members of Mind Piece weren't at this show, didn't play this show, and had no idea of this happening until after the fact. Our now former vocalist took our songs and played them behind our backs with other people.
"This leads us to say that the real Mind Piece is here to play music with and for our friends. We're not here for drama or to feed any of our egos. With that being said, the three original members of Mind Piece never actually stopped writing music, and we have a bunch of new material written. Whoever was in school is now graduated and whoever was in jail is now emancipated. Maybe we'll keep the name, maybe we won't, maybe fuck yourself.
"We'll be looking for a new vocalist in the very near future. MORE DETAILS TO COME. Questions, comments, concerns, and hate mail to: mindpiecenyc@gmail.com"

The Acacia Strain: "We Aren't Deathcore"
The Acacia Strain vocalist Vincent Bennett recently did an interview with website Metal Sucks in which he expressed his distaste that the band has been labeled "deathcore." An excerpt from the interview follows:
Metal Sucks: What do you think about the “deathcore” label? Do you think it describes The Acacia Strain? Do you embrace the term or is it a “dirty word?”
Vincent Bennett: I have said it a couple of times: deathcore is the new nu-metal. You see the same kids and the same ethic. It sucks. And if anyone calls us “deathcore” then I might do something very bad to them. We aren’t deathcore. We are heavy. Any band that calls THEMSELVES deathcore should not be writing music. It just goes to show you that the weak minded need to label things.

Oceano Parts Ways With Guitarist
Chicago deathcore band OCEANO has parted ways with founding member and guitarist, Jeremy Caroll and plans to continue on with their upcoming tours as a 4-piece act. Vocalist, Adam Warren released this statement on the matter:
"As many of you may have, or have not noticed, our guitarist Jeremy was recently taken off the Oceano page. This is because as of this week, the decision was made to part ways with long time/original member.
"For those who seem to care, here is a summary of WHY this decision was made: (This is the FULL, NO BULLSHIT reasoning and explanation on this matter so PLEASE don't waste your time asking us about it.)
"Within our past few tours tension had seemingly grew above that of a typical level for a band touring the country cramped in a van. Over the past months certain members of the band we're beginning to really "butt heads" and clash with Jeremy on a personality level, to a point where tour was almost becoming more of a burden to deal with the stress levels and having to diffuse each others frustrations from this. Things apparently increased to the point of taking such action. Atop that, it was felt that coming from a professional level he did not represent the band well at times when it counted most. More...
Static-X Issues New Album Update
Electro-Industrial metal band Static-X has issued the following update about "Cult Of Static," their upcoming album:
Happy New Year everyone! I am excited to announce our new CD, entitled "Cult of Static", will be released on March 17th. I started writing a year ago in January 2008 after coming home from the long tour for "Cannibal." The past year has been quite a blur; between writing and recording the new cd and releasing the "Cannibal Killers Live" dvd I've kept very busy.
I know you are all going to love this new record. It has everything you have come to expect from Static-X... and more. This is the most epic record we've ever made, it has the most crushing guitar tone I've ever had, and we even got Dave Mustaine of Megadeth to play a guitar solo on a new version of the song "Lunatic." Tony, Koichi, Nick, and myself put everything we had into recording this cd.
I can hardly believe it's been a decade since the release of our first CD, "Wisconsin Death Trip," and we're still going strong thanks to all of you! The title "Cult of Static" is meant to be a big thank-you to everyone who has supported us through the years. I'm looking forward to seeing you all on the upcoming world tour. Check back here for details.

Sanders Gommans of After Forever Discusses HDK
Sanders Gommans of After Forever has come out with news about his new project Hate Death Kill in a new interview with Sheila Doki. Sanders claims that the musical style of HDK can be described as thrash, progressive, or even death metal. He says that the musical style for this music wasn't suited to After Forever's formula that makes After Forever what it is, so that's why he made this separate project. It's not symphonic at all, according to him. Interestingly enough, before Sanders came into an accident that had to put After Forever into a halt, he wrote material for the HDK album System Overload, which is set to be released on February 23rd. Below, you can view the interview in two parts.
Heaven and Hell Reveals New Album Details
The first full-length album from the British heavy metal pioneers Heaven and Hell since 1995's "Forbidden" is set to be released somewhere in late April of this year under the name Heaven and Hell. There's no word of whether there's going to be a Japanese bonus track. Joe Slieger had some commentary concerning Japanese bonus tracks, which can be read here. He'd also like you to look further into Classic Rock's interview with him for more details.
The Classic Struggle Seeking New Drummer
Ironclad Recordings has issued the following statement about The Classic Struggle seeking a new drummer:
"The Classic Struggle regrets to inform everyone that our friend, brother, and drummer, Tyler Solnosky has decided to leave the band due to personal reasons. We, as a band, support Tyler in this decision.

We will be reviewing videos of drumming ability, including TCS music. Our follow up album will be written upon acquiring a stellar drummer. Applicants will be asked to play songs from both Bring Back the Glory & Feel Like Hell.
We sincerely appreciate every ones support."
Ex-Necrophobic Guitarist Working On New Material
Ex-Necrophobic guitarist David Parland has created a new MySpace page detailing a new project he is working on. He issued the following statement:
"To begin with, the main reason with this Myspace website is of course nothing other than to provide you with information about what I am up to...
Since I literally have been out of the scene for some good time and living under a rock (wasting even my own creativity and a lot of time), I for some strange reason feel NOW is the time to restart everything. Why exactly now I do not know, but I work on 'if it feels right...it is right.'
So the main reason for me reaching out again right now is because of the new music band/project I am creating. This is right now in the making. There is sadly not too much I can reveal at this moment, other than 1) it will be a return to more of a Death metal style with Black and Thrash metal influences. but it will be brutal and Catchy and very melodic. 2) Tomas Asklund (ex.DARK FUNERAL/DISSECTION/INFERNAL is the drummer and other core member, and right now we are in the songwriting process).
We will put up excerpts from the coming demo here in a couple of weeks, so check back later for this. This will be followed by an album in late 2009, with around 8-9 tracks. More...
