Manegarm Signs with Regain Records
Swedish viking metal veterans MÅNEGARM have signed a new contract with Regain Records, who will release the next album from the band later this year. The band's previous album, "Vargstenen" (Black Lodge Records), entered the national charts in position 59 in May of 2007.
So far the only confirmed Månegarm show this year is an appearance at the German festival Ragnarök on April 17th-18th, where they will play alongside many other extreme folk/pagan bands such as Alestorm, Einherjer, Dornenreich, Korpiklaani, Melechesh and Thyrfing to mention a few. Saattue To Enter The Studio In April
Finnish metallers Saattue will record their second album in April 2009. Recording sessions will be hosted by Jarno Hänninen at D-Studio, Klaukkala, Finland. Musically the album will be natural follow-up to Saattue’s debut album “Jäähyvästi” and it will feature previously unreleased works of dark, slow and multidimensional saatto metal. The album will be released in the beginning of autumn 2009 by Spikefarm Records.
Saattue writes their lyrics in Finnish and labels their music as saatto metal. Saatto, as well as Saattue, means procession in Finnish. Saattue's roots are deeply in doom metal and other extreme metal genres.

Tommy Lee Plans New Methods Of Mayhem Album
Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee has revealed to Billboard.com that he's started work on his second Methods of Mayhem album, following up the group's platinum 1999 debut.
"We're just getting all the ideas together now," reports Lee. "We're gonna start tracking as soon as Motley is done (touring) at the end of March, and hopefully I'll have it ready by April/May and done by the top of June."
He describes the new material "as out of control ... pretty new and crazy-sounding. There's some ridiculously banging hard rock tunes and electro dance-rock." But, Lee adds, "There's no hip-hop anywhere around it at all."
Lee says he wouldn't mind having Methods of Mayhem on the Crue Fest II tour, which is slated to go out in July, "like Nikki (Sixx) did with Sixx AM last year. That'd be killer."
As for the rest of the Crue Fest II lineup, Lee says it's still being discussed. "There's offers going around all over the place," he says. "Rob Zombie's name came up. Godsmack. Alice Cooper. I'd like to switch it up, add a little bit more variety this year."

Ihsahn's Support For Opeth Scaled Back To One Show
A previous announcement confirmed that Ihsahn would support Opeth for the majority of shows on their forthcoming Norwegian Tour in March. However, more detailed production planning has revealed technical and practical difficulties at many of the smaller venues, and it has proven near impossible to run the necessary production. This means that Ihsahn will only be performing at Rockefeller/Oslo on March 10th.
Ihsahn comments: “The situation is unfortunate as I have really been looking forward to this tour and put a lot of effort in preparations. Still, the practical difficulties at many of the venues would only compromise the conditions for both bands and audience so one needs to be realistic. The Oslo gig is still on though, and fans will no doubt get their monies worth at the remaining Opeth shows”

Serj Tankian To Perform w/ Auckland Philharmonia
While down under for his appearance at the Big Day Out festival (and solo shows with Fantomas), Serj Tankian will be performing a one-off show with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra. The show will take place on Monday, March 16, 2009 at the Auckland Town Hall and they will be performing songs from Tankian's solo debut "Elect The Dead" and "some unreleased extras."
Serj comments further: "All the songs will be reinterpreted to fit with the orchestra, as the F.C.C. will not be playing this show with me. It’s just the orchestra and I; the arrangements for the orchestra were made by respected New Zealand composer John Psathas."
"I'm elated to have the opportunity to arrange my songs from Elect the Dead for a full orchestra with the APO. The arrangements will be quite different than those on the record including bonus tracks never played live, and John Psathas will be helping me outfit my string arrangements for the full orchestra. We'll also be taping the performance for a worldwide DVD release later in the year. Yes for real, we will be putting this out on DVD."

Davide Tiso on Karyn Crisis and Ephel Duath
Davide of Italian metal band Ephel Duath has been working on the Karyn Crisis debut solo album and has given some hints concerning future work with Esposito Fornasari (Somma, Transgender, Ashes, Pascolare Menti, Allevare Pensieri) and more Ephel Duath albums. In reference to the Karyn Crisis album, he states that he's "super happy for what is coming out. The songs are so rich of many different moods, colors, killer mid tempos and heavy attacks," and that "There's groove. So much groove." "I had the chance to work in studio also with Lorenzo Esposito Fornasari, [an] amazing singer and talented programmer. It has been simply great. I hope there will be the chance to collaborate in [the] future." "Another important news, I'm assembling a home recording studio. This is so exciting I'm barely able to put it in words! I'm sure I'll be working day and night non-stop for at least the first year. I love so much to be in studio, I can't believe to finally have one in front of my bed. I'm already collecting ideas for another Ephel Duath album; there [are] new collaborations and projects in the air too."

Megadeth Bassist James Lomenzo Checks In
Megadeth's bassist James Lomenzo has posted the following studio report online:
"Yeah, I'm NAMM 'd out too, fuck it... so on to Thursday at old Vic's. Both yesterday and today Dave's (Mustaine) been in early, laying down his rhythms and tightening up arrangements. Yesterday also saw the triumphant return of Chris 'No Riff Is Out Of My League' Broderick. Dave and Chris' (Broderick) guitars sound particularly angry together, I'm digging the way this is going down. Last night I was able to track my first bass part and I'm really pleased with the way it's sounding. I'm really impressed with Andy's (Sneap) keen sonic sense, he's really got everything cranking (I think it's spelled "Kranking" these days) I can't wait for you all to hear it... I hear my name being called... got to jam... Later."
Jon Oliva's Pain Set To Record New Album
Jon Oliva's Pain, the band led by Savatage mastermind Jon Oliva, has issued the following update about working on a new album:
"JOP's been very busy since returning from the
fall 2008 US tour with CirlceIICirlce/Manticora and thought we would spell it all out for you as 2009 kicks into high gear.
"First, we would like to announce official endorsements from our great partners at Ddrum (Christopher Kinder), Fender Bass Guitars (Kevin Rothney) and Charvel Guitars (Tom McDyne). Locking into partnerships with these high quality manufacturers helps us promote the music and the instruments that allow us to deliver the best performances possible. We sincerely appreciate their support and recognition of our desire to grow their brands and ours...thanks!
"On the music front: JOP is deep into pre-production for our 4th release due out later this year. 13 songs are on the table with another 6 still in their infancy. Expect us to deliver another 60+ minutes. We are determined to make this record heavier and more diverse than the previous3 cd's. We have done quite a bit of experimenting over the past 2 albums, but there is a real desire to push our performances and Oliva's voice harder than ever. Recording will begin at Morrisound Studio's-Tampa in late March. More...

Dillinger Escape Plan Announces Basement Show
Dillinger Escape Plan has issued the following update about upcoming shows and a special basement performance:
"Ok so the upcoming schedule as of now with ticket links is as follows:
Feb 5th - Philly - The Barbary(SOLD OUT, MOTHERLICKERS)
Feb 6th - Baltimore - The Ottobar
Feb 7th - NYC - The Studio at Webster Hall
"Remember, these shows are NOT the biggest rooms in the world, so don't sleep on getting tickets early. Oh and Baltimore, so help me God if the Ottobar show isn't the unholy destructive force that you guys always make it, I'm gonna be majorly disappointed. It's a Friday night. Don't hold back.
"Now, for something that you deffffinitely haven't seen in a reaallllllly long time.... we are playing....on February 8th......in New Jersey.....IN A BASEMENT. That's right. We're playing a fucking BASEMENT SHOW. The location of which is going to be completely secret until a few days beforehand, when we'll announce the location. Maybe we'll announce it here, maybe we'll announce it on our messageboard, maybe it'll be spraypainted on an overpass on the NJ Turnpike, maybe Asian Steve will run naked across the field at Super Bowl halftime with a flag bearing the address, who knows. I CAN tell you that the maximum capacity of this actual house basement will probably be in the double digits. Obviously we'll cram in as many people as possible, and probably do a little barbecue too. We may start doing random intimate things like this in the middle of seemingly normal tours in the future,so be ready. If you're in Jersey and you wanna see some crazy shit go down and endanger your life, show up at your own risk. More...
