"some music was meant to stay underground..."

Jon Oliva's Pain Set To Record New Album

Jon Oliva's Pain, the band led by Savatage mastermind Jon Oliva, has issued the following update about working on a new album:

"JOP's been very busy since returning from the
fall 2008 US tour with CirlceIICirlce/Manticora and thought we would spell it all out for you as 2009 kicks into high gear.

"First, we would like to announce official endorsements from our great partners at Ddrum (Christopher Kinder), Fender Bass Guitars (Kevin Rothney) and Charvel Guitars (Tom McDyne). Locking into partnerships with these high quality manufacturers helps us promote the music and the instruments that allow us to deliver the best performances possible. We sincerely appreciate their support and recognition of our desire to grow their brands and ours...thanks!

"On the music front: JOP is deep into pre-production for our 4th release due out later this year. 13 songs are on the table with another 6 still in their infancy. Expect us to deliver another 60+ minutes. We are determined to make this record heavier and more diverse than the previous3 cd's. We have done quite a bit of experimenting over the past 2 albums, but there is a real desire to push our performances and Oliva's voice harder than ever. Recording will begin at Morrisound Studio's-Tampa in late March.

"Touring news: JOP is so far confirmed for (5) European Festivals (more to follow) as well as dates in South America. Festival appearances, SA dates and Euro-acoustic shows will be announced in the coming weeks. We will hit the US/Europe again in the fall of 2009 in support of our next release and we are in negotiations to film a live DVD for an early 2010 release.
The DVD will feature not only JOP material, but also a healthy onslaught of SAVATAGE classics."

I have the album - it is really progressive but takes some getting used to.
overall, though, it is pretty good.
