Megadeth Frontman Posts Album Update
Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine has posted the following message online:
"I remember when I first started to hear all of the shit around the number 13. It meant that you were now a teenager as far as I was concerned as a kid, but then there was that dark side.
"There was the dark side that was associated with 'bad luck,' and an even worse and darker side; the 'marijuana' connection. But I want to tell you about the song 'Song 13 idea.' This is quite possibly going to be my favourite song on the record (on any Megs record for that matter for a long time coming). More...
New Cannibal Corpse Video Clip Posted On Decibel

Evile Seeks "No Noise Control" Petition Support
Earache Records has issued the following statement:
"British metallers Evile know a thing or two about thrashing, and they know that the music has to be loud. The band were therefore slightly worried to hear something which could affect fans of live music all across the UK.
EVILE lead guitarist OL DRAKE explains: "I was browsing the Downing Street website to see what exactly our Prime Minister is doing, and I came across the 'Petitions' section. One that stood out to me was a petition for 'No Noise Control'. Now, I remember playing a show in a venue where they were strict on the level of noise, as they had one of these Noise Control devices. It was so quiet, it felt like a crime headbanging whilst playing the music. I'd hate to go and see my favourite band live and have the music being at that level.
I urge all UK live music fans to sign this petition to make it be known that we love live music, and for it to be that ridiculously quiet would be a travesty. The kind of music we play is aggressive. You can't have aggressive music at low volumes. It defeats the purpose. I want to have my
head blasted off by a riff, not my genitals slightly tickled. Please take a look, sign and pass on!"
To view and sign the petition, click here.
Evile are currently working on material for a new album, tentatively due to be released later this year on Earache Records."

Cormorant Issues Recording Update
San Francisco based progressive black metal band Cormorant has issued the following recording update:
"We're recording at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland, California, and tonight while we were tracking there were riots going on about 20 blocks away. I'm sure it's all over the news, even in the East coast. Absolutely awful police shooting. It was crazy leaving the studio and seeing a half-dozen helicopters circling the city. The studio itself is actually in a pretty nice part of town though, right around Jack London Square. We couldn't be happier with it. Everything is pro:great equipment, helpful staff, comfortable vibe. They've recorded everyone from Cathedral to High on Fire to Cattle Decapitation. We're scheduled to record from January 2nd to the 14th.
The songs are coming together beautifully. As of January 7th, all the drum, bass and primary guitar tracks are done. The basic tracks were recorded live almost exclusively, and then we began overdubbing vocals, solos and extra guitars. We've finished about 75-80% of the vocals so far. Guitar doubling is essentially complete, with just some acoustics and tertiary ornaments to add. We're ahead of schedule and excited about how the material is shaping up. We're proud of our last album, but in terms of fresh ideas, we're going for broke on this one. Improvisational songs, jazz breaks, ultra-layering, 4-part vocal harmonies, insane guitar effects, mandolin, acoustic guitar, hand drums, nature sounds, fretless/fan-fret bass, black metal, sludge,post-rock, death metal, prog, doom, folk, NWOBHM...
I know it sounds like a clusterfuck but we have a singular vision for it all and we're making it work cohesively. In terms of instrumentation, there is cello courtesy of Lewis Patzer from the band Judgement Day. We also have piano/keyboards/organ courtesy of Matt's brother Andrew Solis. Guest vocals are courtesy of Brennan's sister Deborah Spake from the band Kung Fu Vampire, and of course Aaron Gregory from Giant Squid. More...
Dream Theater Drummer Mike Portnoy's Father Passes
Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy has issued the following statement about the death of his father:
"It's with the heaviest heart and deepest sorrow that I share the news of the passing of my best friend,
my idol and my father, Howard Portnoy.
He passed away this morning at 3:38 am with his loving wife Trish and myself by his side after a 6 month battle with cancer. He was an amazing person whose lively spirit was a tremendous inspiration to me and to most people that had the pleasure to know him.
He will be sorely missed by so many friends and family - but none more so than his wife Trish, his daughter in law Marlene, his grandchildren Melody and Max and yours truly.
The Spirit Carries On 'Ol Popz......
Carpe Diem,

Slipknot Frontman To Record Solo Album
Slipknot/Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor has announced that he plans to enter the recording studio later this year, to record his first solo album. He claims that he has written around fourty to fifty songs so far and is choosing which he wants to be featured on the record.
Corey Taylor states: "It's something that I'd like to do purely for myself. It's something that I need to release before I can think about moving on to anything else… In both SLIPKNOT and STONE SOUR I'm slightly limited to how I can write and indeed what I can write about. The beauty of doing a solo album is that I can write whatever type of song I want."

Lord Belial Calls It Quits
Black metal band Lord Belial has issued the following statement on their website:
"LORD BELIAL 1992 - 2009
"Lord Belial has quit all their activities. All future gigs are canceled. We would like to thank all fans, bands we have played with, labels, organizers and everyone involved in the band for the past 17 years!
"The main reason for this is the hearing problem (tinnitus) that has grown into a quite big problem for Micke the last years… The other members in the band were not forced to put an end to the band but instead they mutually agreed that finding another drummer was not a solution for the future.
"Anyhow, if Micke’s hearing will be at least a little bit recovered after a break from music and especially live appearances for some time, we really hope that we can continue where we ended.
"We will not comment or discuss this in emails etc."
Genghis Tron Remix To Appear On Movie Soundtrack

Marionette Writing New Material
Swedish metal band Marionette has issued the following statement:
"The New Year is upon us, and it’s going to be super busy! After Reiterfestspiele, we immediately began collecting and putting together song ideas and working on some new riffs: some of which had been written right after Spite was recorded, and some that were completely new. Before we knew it we had written a handful of songs. The writing process thus far has been awesome, working with our new guitarist Anton has been awesome: he has really been a great complementary force to where we are heading musically. Let’s just say that the next album will be more extreme in every way than Spite.
We leave for the UK this week and we are very stoaked to be heading over there for the first time! The UK has always been a stronghold for Marionette fans – very supportive! - and we cannot wait to bring our live show over there. We look forward to meeting everyone at the show and enjoying our first trip as a band to the region: we know it won’t be the last! We will end the trip with a gig in Tilburg at Little Devil in the heart of the town. We are looking forward to this, as it is our first time playing in the Netherlands! See you in the moshpit!"
Marionette has confirmed the following tour dates so far for 2009:

And in a few hours, I will travel back to Norway for a few days yet again, to attend some of the mixing sessions for 1349's new album. Although, admittedly, my mind is very much with Triptykon, and I am eager to return to Switzerland to continue work on songs, demos, and our first album."

Recon Seeks New Frontman
New York hardcore band Recon (Rise Records) is currently in search of a new vocalist. The group elaborates:
"Alex is no longer with the band, we didn't have a terrible falling out and there's no animosity or anything of the sort, we've just gone our separate ways. We're now in search of the right person to front Recon. We're not looking for anyone who sounds identical to Alex or Chris; what's important is that it sounds heavy and natural.
1. Must be over the age of 19.
2. Some touring experience is preferred.
3. Be able to tour 9-10 months a year.
4. Know our set and be a front man, not just a singer.
5. Must be straight edge.
6. Must not be a pussy or a negative nancy, but at the same time, must not be an asshole.
"Aright, so here's the deal, if you fill the requirements, the next step is to record 3 songs off our album, Thirteen, Armageddon and Deceiver. We will have links to download the tracks on our Myspace. Please don't waste our time and yours by screaming at your computer microphone, make sure you record at a studio or with some sort of legitimate recording rig. Email your tracks to reconvocals@gmail.com with your contact info and anything else you'd like us to know. Please don't message our myspace about this, stick to the email address, otherwise it might not get read."

A Journey Of Faith: An Interview With Scott Waters
Boston rock band Aerosmith’s 1976 “Rocks” was a huge seller for the band, one that was highly influential on bands from Metallica to Guns N’ Roses. Rolling Stone magazine put it on their “500 Greatest Albums Of All Time,” and songs “Last Child,” “Back In The Saddle,” and “Home Tonight” are radio staples. There is no doubt that Rocks is one of the essential rock albums of the 1970s.
One day in the mid-90s in New Mexico, Scott Waters, the new vocalist of the Christian thrash metal band Ultimatum, was driving home after a tough day of work. Waters had recently left his old church, Victory of Love, due to its cult-like tendencies, which caused him to throw away hundreds upon hundreds of vinyl, cassettes, and CDs that he had been collecting since the early 1970s.
On this significant day in his life, Waters turned on the radio to the local rock station, ZRock. Maybe it was fate or a higher power calling to him in the form of electronic waves, but “Rocks” began to play and it hit Waters like an icy cold shower after a day at Navajo State National Park. I Built The Cross Signs To Open Grave Records
OPEN GRAVE RECORDS has announced the signing of Nevada-based death metal band I BUILT THE CROSS.
I BUILT THE CROSS was formed during the summer of 2008 by two long time-time friends and ex-members of the popular death metal band Disfiguring the Goddess. As friends, Reed and Gare have been closer than brothers since before either of them can remember, and as musicians, they've been working together for the last several years. Although they have been involved in musical projects spanning various different genres all across the board, they claim that death metal is the only form of musical expression that can truly make their hearts, minds, and desires most tangible.
I BUILT THE CROSS is a Christ-centered, spirit-led technical death metal band with a driven and distinguishable purpose: spread Jesus' name to an audience of people in a music scene that is generally stereotyped as "evil." To them, musicians aren't defined by the music they play, rather, it is the other way around. As a whole, I BUILT THE CROSS is ultimately concerned with clarifying the unconditional love of Jesus - the Savior, the Friend, the Father.
Look for I BUILT THE CROSS's debut album out this spring on OPEN GRAVE RECORDS.
For further information on I BUILT THE CROSS and to check out some of their material, visit their MySpace page.
