Arkheth Signs To Obsidian Records

Australian black metal band Akheth recently signed a record deal with Obsidian Records

To many, the face of Arkheth was reduced to ashes after BloodLust 2004. As a live entity they had ceased to be and all contact with the metal community was lost, until now.

The band continued to write, however, and between 2003 and 2007, ten songs where painstakingly written to make over two hours of material for a double CD release, titled, "IX& I: The Quintessence Ov Algaresh."

A return to the live front in Canberra, June 2008, signaled the resurgence of Arkheth. The march has continued with further shows in Canberra, Sydney and Brisbane.

Currently in the mastering phase, "IX & I: The Quintessence Ov Algaresh" is planned for release through Obsidian Records first quarter 2009.

Manatees Reveals New Album Details

Carlise, UK based psychedelic sludge heavyweights Manatees have revealed that their new album will be titled "Icarus, The Sunclimber."

Laced with feedback and noise, "Icarus, The Sunclimber" is far darker and bleaker than their previous release, "We Are Going To Track Down And Kill Vintage Claytahh, The Beard Burning Bastard," a recording that saw them collaborate with Oxbow front man Eugene Robinson. Yet, on "Icarus..." Manatees perfectly displays their ability to mix crushing heaviness with sublime introspective ambience.

Speaking to Rock Sound magazine recently, bassist/vocalist Alex Macarte said:

"Volume is a big thing for us, we love being able to feel the music as well as hear it."

Capturing the raw, stripped down intensity of their live show, this is a record that for which maximum volume is a must.

Here is the tracklisting for "Icarus, The Sunclimber": More...

Rock of Love Tour Bus Episode 4 Recap

In the beginning of episode four we learn that Maria has been taken to the hospital and will not be continuing. We are not told the cause, but I speculate it has something to do with her missing socks.

The bus rolls on to Chicago and Marcia begins (continues) to drink tequila. She is trashed when they arrive to see Bret Michaels rehearsing. Most disturbing is not the amount of alcohol already inside Marcia, but the view of Big John staring at Bret as he rehearses. More...

Hate Announces European Tour Dates

Listenable Records has issued the following statement about Hate touring Europe in 2009:

"Polish extreme metallers HATE has just confirmed their raid across Europe in February under the name of - Morphosis Tour 2009. This handful of concerts will start an intensive touring period for HATE in support of their highly recognized opus - Morphosis - released in March 2008 on Listenable Rec. The European tour will be followed by a set of concerts in their native Poland in March/April. Afterwards the band will appear on summer festivals across Europe (look below). The list of concerts on - Morphosis Tour 2009 - is not closed as yet. The Flaming Arts Booking Agency claims that some more dates can still be added within days. The band’s mainman ATF Sinner has shared his thoughts on the upcoming tour: “We have been working together with our agent to make it happen and I can now confirm that we will bring “Morphosis” in LIVE form to some countries across Europe (from Ukraine to Spain), and it’s possible that we will add some more dates to the bill in the upcoming days. We have been waiting for this occasion since the album’s premiere and now we look forward to the moment we spew it all on the crowds! During the
summer we played several festivals, but time regimes (normal on festivals) enabled us to play only half of our set. On the tour, however, we will have freedom of playing as long as we wish, so I believe we’ll present full package covering last three albums as well as two brand-new tracks we have composed for next album”

The tour dates are as follows: More...

Fellsilent Denied Access To United States For Tour

Fellsilent has issued the following statement about dropping off the Crush Em' All Tour:

"UK Based, Sumerian Records artist, FellSilent have been denied access to the U.S. to take part in the Crush Em' All Tour which starts tonight and features Veil Of Maya,
After The Burial and Abacabb.

"Due to reasons beyond our control FellSilent will no longer be able to take part in the Crush Em’All Tour 2009. Apologies to anyone who has been waiting patiently to come see us, we love and appreciate your support. As you can imagine it takes a huge amount of effort to organize a tour of this size and the work load and costs are huge, we’re extremely pissed off that we had this tour pulled from us as we all made huge sacrifices to make this trip, it’s a huge blow for the band as its left some of us homeless and alot of us completely moneyless.

"However our album release in the states will be going ahead as planned this March! And there’s still light at the end of the tunnel for an American tour at some point later this year.

"Once we managed to get ourselves back on our feet, we’ll be making our way over to Europe to tour later this year, so keep your eye out for dates! Thanks again for your continued support."

Terror Announces Guitarist Replacement

Los Angeles hardcore band Terror has just announced the departure of guitarist Doug Weber, who was “sick of living in a van 90% of each year and wanted to live a more normal life.”

In a MySpace blog, front-man Scott Vogel expressed his understanding, stating, “We can't really blame him for that decision, as there are times when I hate this shit too. It's a real wake up call for anyone that thinks touring is ALL fun or that Terror as a band have it easy in any way. I honestly thought that Doug leaving may have been the end for us. Doug had been in the band for a very long time and I was starting to feel that all the line-up changes might start to make us look like a joke, but Nick and Martin sternly told me that this is NOT the end and that we have a lot more to accomplish. So we pushed on, as always.”

The blog also reveals that the band have found an immediate replacement in Jordan Posner, former guitarist for influential Toronto hardcore band No Warning. “The only person we had even really talked about or spoke to about stepping up to fill the Big Man's shoes was our friend Jordan from the now defunct Toronto HC band No Warning,” Vogel says. “For anyone that knows me or has read interviews with me you'll know that I love No Warning and really all of Terror do. Jordan has proved to be an amazing songwriter and dude so we are excited about this change.”

Posner is the second No Warning member to join an influential hardcore band, with former vocalist Ben Cook becoming Fucked Up’s third guitarist last year.

You can catch Posner and his new band with the home court advantage when Terror pull up in Toronto for the Atticus Metal Tour on March 17.

Just For Fun

Krist Novoselic Needs Rock Band Practice

On a recent trip to the mall, Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic spotted a Rock Band demo and decided to give it a whirl. He chose the Nirvana tune “In Bloom”, a song he’s played hundreds of times in the studio and on stage. But Rock Band’s controller and format stumped the bassist.

As Novoselic put it, “I knew the bass line to the song, of course, but I couldn’t quite master this new, different way of playing it. The game reminded me of Space Invaders. I tried to hit the notes cascading down the screen, but could barely keep up.”

The funniest part is that a kid was watching him, obviously unaware who was giving the song a go. Novoselic admitted to becoming self-conscious and handed the controller to the kid, who proceeded to nail the song.

Novoselic said he really does love Rock Band and adds, “instead of file sharing, people are actually buying music again! HA!!!”
