Electro-Industrial metal band Static-X has issued the following update about "Cult Of Static," their upcoming album:

Happy New Year everyone! I am excited to announce our new CD, entitled "Cult of Static", will be released on March 17th. I started writing a year ago in January 2008 after coming home from the long tour for "Cannibal." The past year has been quite a blur; between writing and recording the new cd and releasing the "Cannibal Killers Live" dvd I've kept very busy.

I know you are all going to love this new record. It has everything you have come to expect from Static-X... and more. This is the most epic record we've ever made, it has the most crushing guitar tone I've ever had, and we even got Dave Mustaine of Megadeth to play a guitar solo on a new version of the song "Lunatic." Tony, Koichi, Nick, and myself put everything we had into recording this cd.

I can hardly believe it's been a decade since the release of our first CD, "Wisconsin Death Trip," and we're still going strong thanks to all of you! The title "Cult of Static" is meant to be a big thank-you to everyone who has supported us through the years. I'm looking forward to seeing you all on the upcoming world tour. Check back here for details.

^really? I was thinking to myself how absolutely rubbish the title is. Didn't hear Cannibal, but that Start A War album was crapola. Shadow Zone was mostly balls, but Machine and WDT were genius. Wish they'd get back to their roots.

@ psythe : I dunno man, I would definitely prefer this kinda title to something along the lines of "The Emancipation Of Satanic Mysticity". In fact, this album-title makes more sense than some pseudo-intellectual bullsh** would. It might sound like something on the verge of self-parody, but Im sure its intentional and moreover its got a cool ring to it. btw, I dig your avatar.

Cannibal was a great deal better than Shadow Zone and Start A War. Koichi Fukuda (the original guitarist from WDT) adds something new for Static-X... namely solos. It's on par with WDT and Machine. It actually changed the mind of my good friend who had previously not liked them. I can't wait to hear what this line up can come up with now that they've been working together for a few years.

banana - great fruit, by the way. havn't had the pie. yeah, those death/black metal titles can get pretty dumb sometimes hey. more often than not it just looks silly. I really dig titles they way post-metal bands do them - or bands like Opeth. Nothing complicated, just one or a few nice sounding words. Morningrise. Orchid. Panopticon. I like something simple that conveys a nice or interesting image, sound or concept. That's why I liked the title 'Machine', but don't like the title 'Cult of Static'.

ahah, the avatar - I found this cool gif that had had a pic of Jack Black and then went to 'This is not the greatest avatar in the world' and then to 'this is just a tribute' - I tried to get it to work as an avatar, but no good, so I just made a simple jpeg. pity it doesn't flick over, the tribute bit made it so much better lol
