Nightwish Singer Comments on Michael Jackson
Nightwish vocalist Anette Olzon has posted the following blog on Michael Jackson:
"I`ve spent my evening in front of the TV and followed the memorial of Michael Jackson. I cried over and over again when the wonderful speakers talked and the great singers performed. The hardest part of it all were when Michaels daughter spoke about her father and how great he had been as her father and that she loved him so. That was almost to tough to watch...
"I have often thought about why the most caring people die first...Why is it that the meanest and most egocentrical people live long and just torment the people around them with their bitterness and hate?
And the caring and warmest people that give and think about others and live with their heart unprotected and outside the body leave so soon?
"I do believe that God needs the good people for better purposes or maybe even to save them from the pain and sorrows they need to go through being hurt and tormented by the hating and mean people of this world. By being misunderstood and questioned in their deeds to try and help and nurture others. Tormented with others jealousy, envy and hate.. More...

Phil Fasciana Didn't Stop Store Robbery?
Rockradio.co.uk has run a story about Phil Fasciana of Malevolent Creation apparently lying about stopping a convenience store robbery. Excerpts from the story follow.
Rock news outlets have been reporting how Phil Fasciana of Malevolent Creation interrupted a store hold-up last week. The guitarist has said he was shot at four times before disarming the junkie perp and shooting him dead. But with no one to back him up, reporters have been asking whether it really happened. Rock Radio has the answer.
Rock Radio has spoken to Detective Mark Shotwell of Fort Lauderdale Police's homicide squad, who says he’s been unable to find any evidence of such an event.
He explains: “This did not happen. Our last murder was on June 22 and Fasciana was not involved. I’m certain of this. Even if the death was a result of self-defence it would still be classed as a homicide and investigated as such.”
“All witnesses, reportees, victims and suspects are entered into a database, but the most recent entry for Fasciana is on April 1, involving him and a female in a domestic dispute."
Rock Radio has spoken to Fasciana about Detective Shotwell’s comments, and the guitarist replies: “The store where it took place isn’t considered Fort Lauderdale. What happened is true and I really don’t know how it leaked into Blabbermouth because I never told anyone about it.”
But Shotwell explains: “There are about 15 suburbs near Fort Lauderdale, but all murders use the Broward County Medical Examiners’ office for autopsies - mandatory in a homicide. There have been no murders in the entire county during July. 'Homeless crackheads' would trade a gun as soon as they got it and I've never seen one with two guns. And the scenario as described would have made headlines – even in Miami.”

The Konsortium Streaming New Song Online
Norway's The Konsortium has issued the following update about streaming a new song online at their MySpace page:
"Finally, we are able to give you a little teaser from the upcoming album: a rough mix of the song 'Slangenes Barn' has been uploaded. The quality of the production may not be top notch, but we felt confident enough about the vibe to let you in for a sneak peek anyways.
"Oh, by the way... we are still in need of a guitarist - what we forgot to mention, is that this person will have to live somewhere around our area (STAVANGER, ROGALAND, NORGE). Plenty of rehersals and more studio time lay ahead, so unfortunately we can't work with people located outside of Norway."

Neuraxis Parts with Drummer and Bassist
Neuraxis has announced they are parting ways with drummer Tommy Mckinnon and bassist Yan Thiel.
Guitarist Rob Milley comments: "The time has come again for us to refresh the Neuraxis family as we are now seeking a new drummer and bassist. Nothing really juicy to tell. For Tommy, his priorities began to differ from ours while on the road until it became clear to us that he was no longer enjoying the touring lifestyle. He wishes to go back to school to complete his education. As for Yan its just been a case of him deciding to further his working career and he can no longer dedicate himself to the band. This has been going on for many years now and its time for us to have a full-time bassist on board. Both of them will continue playing in other musical projects. We thank our metal brothers for all the good times we had together and wish them the best for the future. Tommy and Yan will be fulfilling all our summer shows already booked ending with a fitting show in Montreal at the Club Soda on Sept 11th 2009.
"With that being said, we are excited to get some new blood in the band. For those interested in auditioning for the drummer and bassist positions , visit our myspace page, www.myspace.com/neuraxis to learn the following 3 songs: 'Dreaming the End,' 'Darkness Prevails' and 'Clarity' and make sure to read all the requirements before getting in touch with us. We ask you to video tape yourself playing these songs, add it to your Youtube page and send us the link by Myspace. Include 'Drummer' or 'Bassist' audition in the subject."

An Interview With Primal Fear's Mat Sinner
Ask any German who is the most successful metal act ever to come out of his country, and he’s sure to respond with Primal Fear. These guys have been a mainstay in the German metal scene for a generation, and their success in their home country is second to their chart positions throughout the United States and the rest of Europe. I recently spoke with Mat Sinner about their latest release, "16.6," which is an excellent classic metal mix, and their upcoming world tour. More...

Ghost Brigade Comments On New Album Title
Ghost Brigade has revealed that their upcoming album will be titled "Isolation Songs." Guitarist Wille Naukkarinen issued the following statement about the title:
"We had a few different working titles for this record but 'Isolation Songs' was the one that we collectively felt good about. I remember reading through the lyrics of this album just before we went to the studio in order to come up with an album title and the word 'isolation' came to mind several times. The songs themselves aren't directly about that at all but I think that having a feeling of being isolated has been an inspiration or a driving force to at least some of the content of these lyrics. And if you think about our songwriting process in general, 'Isolation Songs' is probably the best possible title to characterize that as well. I for example have to be completely isolated from the outside world to write riffs, melodies and songs for Ghost Brigade, it just doesn't work any other way. We can't go to our rehearsal room and jam until we come up with something 'pretty cool'. This band digs deeper than that. And besides, 'Isolation Songs' sounds like it's a title of a country album and that of course, is a big bonus. ;)"

Trent Reznor Comments On Music Distribution
Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails has issued the following blog post discussing how small bands can distribute their music without the help of a label:
"I posted a message on Twitter yesterday stating I thought The Beastie Boys and TopSpin Media 'got it right' regarding how to sell music in this day and age.
"Shortly thereafter, I got some responses from people stating the usual 'yeah, if you're an established artist - what if you're just trying to get heard?' argument. In an interview I did recently this topic came up and I'll reiterate what I said here.
"If you are an unknown / lesser-known artist trying to get noticed / established: Establish your goals. What are you trying to do / accomplish? If you are looking for mainstream super-success (think Lady GaGa, Coldplay, U2, Justin Timberlake) - your best bet in my opinion is to look at major labels and prepare to share all revenue streams / creative control / music ownership. To reach that kind of critical mass these days your need old-school marketing muscle and that only comes from major labels. Good luck with that one.
"If you're forging your own path, read on.
"Forget thinking you are going to make any real money from record sales. Make your record cheaply (but great) and GIVE IT AWAY. As an artist you want as many people as possible to hear your work. Word of mouth is the only true marketing that matters. More...

Crimson Glory Comments On Midnight's Death
As was previously reported, former Crimson Glory vocalist Midnight (John McDonald) passed away yesterday morning. A memorial will be held for him on July 11th at 6:30pm on Siesta Key public beach in Sarasota, FL. The memorial will be open to the public. The band has also issued the following statement about his death:
"Midnight was a very special soul with a beautiful heart...
"To try to describe his many gifts through the limiting restraints of text and typeset is like trying to describe a thousand rainbows to a blind man who never learned to count. His mind was both extraordinarily beautiful and enticingly frightening, an indescribably mysterious place from which came some of the most brilliantly creative and soulfully poignant lyrics in the history of heavy metal. He was not always understood, but his talents were undeniable and transcended far beyond the bounds of our weaker imaginations.
"As is the case with all truly great artists, Midnight was hounded by his demons...but he put them to work, using them to pull back the curtains of his cosmic wonderland and reveal the pieces and parts that made him who he was: the soft vulnerable child, the eccentric and maniacal genius, the soaring passionate believer, the charming and mischievous imp, the wistful dream weaver...discovering Midnight was like discovering a new reality for us; we knew from the moment we first heard him sing that he was something special, and we all feel honored that he shared himself not just with us, but with the rest of the world. Soundgarden To Release Box Set?
Former Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman Chris Cornell was recently interviewed by Rolling Stone magazine. In the course of the interview, the subject of a Soundgarden reunion came up.
"The only thing that we have talked about is trying to put together an album of B sides and maybe a box set with some unreleased tracks we have," Cornell says. "This is something we first talked about 10 years ago. We all feel it’s time to do that, and we have a lot of fans out there, and we have a lot of new fans discovering our music, and I think the catalog and the legacy of the band has been ignored by the record label and previous management, so we decided to get together, and start working towards putting something like that out."

Doc Coyle, guitarist of New Jersey based metal band God Forbid has posted an update on the general goings on within the band, including who will be the bands touring guitarist on their upcoming trek. The message reads as follows:
"Doc here just checking in to give everyone a heads up on the GF camp. We just returned from our most successful European tour to date doing a bunch of insane festivals with some of the biggest bands in the world as well as some off-dates with ANTHRAX, DEVILDRIVER, and DOWN which also kicked ass! Big thanks to our European supporters and all the bands we jammed and partied with. On to current events, we hop on a plane tonight to start the Rockstar Mayhem Tour which could possibly be the sickest tour of our lives. We've been on the road since the day Earthsblood dropped, and we're firing on all cylinders right now! Prepare to have your face ripped off if you make it to any of these shows. We play at 3:30pm on the Jager Stage everyday right before All That Remains. Be there or be fucked! We'll also be doing signings/meet & greets for Jagermeister, Rockstar shortly after our set, so don't be shy.
I also have a few other announcements. We a new fill-in guitar player. Matt Wicklund, formerly of HIMSA and a contributer to the WARREL DANE solo record, is handling second guitar duties in the meantime, and we're having a great time with him. Say hi to him on tour. He's the pretty boy with the hat. The second bit of news is that I will be playing bass, filling in for Paulo from TRIVIUM, on the first Mayhem date in Sacramento. He's getting his wisdom teeth done. Wish him well. The last piece of news is that our song 'Empire of the Gun' from Earthsblood will be featured on a Mayhem Tour Download Pack on Rock Band. Other bands featured on the pack are MARILYN MANSON, CANNIBAL CORPSE, and more.
See you all on the road. Check out these off-dates we'll doing on the Mayhem run:

Monster Magnet Planning Unplugged Tour
In a recent interview with Australia's PyroMusic.net, Monster Magnet mainman Dave Wyndorf revealed some of the bands plans for the future. You can check out some excerpts from the chat below.
Pyromusic.net: I understand you also have another musical project in the works - can you shed some light on this perhaps?
Dave Wyndorf: I'm writing stuff now, in between tours. I'd like to get a new Monster Magnet album out in 2010. I also seem to be writing lots of little, weird songs lately as well and I'm thinking of releasing them as a separate project rather than calling it a Monster Magnet album. Also, Monster Magnet is planning a, well for lack of a better word, unplugged tour featuring songs from the Monster Magnet catalogue that have never before played live. Very psychedelic and very bluesy. Cool instrumentation too -sitar, mellotron, percussion, slide guitars, it sounds fuckin' awesome!" More...
