Westfield Massacre Signs With Urban Yeti

Los Angeles-based metal act Westfield Massacre has signed with independent label Urban Yeti Records.

Led by Tommy Vext (Divine Heresy, Snot), Westfield Massacre promises to bring a brutal mix of speed, intricate riffs and strong vocals to the scene when releasing a debut album in late spring this year.

Vext comments: "We aspired to make this (Westfield Massacre) something theatrical and brought in very talented people to work on the album, the artwork and the music videos, which will be a short film trilogy. I just wanted to take the music and make something bigger than just another metal band. There's definitely a traditional American metal vibe, but we blend power metal, melodic death metal, metalcore altogether to get an original flavor to our sound."

He also had this to say on the band's new label home: "Signing with Urban Yeti has been an exciting experience. I try to go by a few rules in life. One of which is to go where the love is. I shared my vision with them and they were excited about it." He remarked, "Urban Yeti has really amazing ideas and approaches to getting our music out to an audience that will understand and support it. They are thinking outside the box. I want to be a part of that kind of thinking." More...

Down Kicked From FortaRock Festival

Looks like the Nazi salute heard round the world at Dimebash has had a bigger repercussion than just online comments, as Down has been pulled from the FortaRock 2016 lineup. The organizers of the festival comment (translated to English):

"After the recent outbursts by singer Phil Anselmo during the Dimebash event in the US, his band Down is no longer welcome at FortaRock. Anselmo ended the show in the US with a Nazi salute and shouted 'white power.'

"There has been close consultation between all parties in recent days, since we wanted to make a well informed decision. On that basis, the decision is made to cancel the act. We want to make clear that there is no room for racism or fascism at FortaRock."

Phil Anselmo has since issued an apology video, although it appears that wasn't enough to save Down at this particular festival. What do you think of this move by the festival, and do you think any others will follow and also cancel appearances featuring Anselmo? More...
