Haemophagus Signs With Selfmadegod Records

Selfmadegod Records is proud to announce the signing of Italy’s death metal/grindcore band Haemophagus to release a new full-length album in summer 2016.

The band’s third album, entitled “Stream of Shadows,” was recorded, engineered, and mixed in Palermo by ong time friend Silvio "Spadino" Punzo at Tone Deaf Studios. Dan Randall will handle the mastering at Mammoth Sound in Santa Cruz, California. Marco Failla will once again draw the cover artwork.

On the lyric and song writing side, "Stream of Shadows" takes a step towards weirder, faster and more lunatic structures. With themes ranging from the Buddha's spiritual resistance against demons, people trapped inside flippers, and dystopian tales of rebellion and mind expansion, the band is trying to bring its brand of death metal, grindcore, and thrash to a different level of musical oddity. "Emerging back in '89 under the monicker of Chacal, they later changed into Vibrion in 1992. That same year they recorded 'Erradicated Life,' a demo that was also released a a 7" EP, followed by an European tour in 1994 and then two albums 'Diseased' ('95) & 'Closed Frontiers' ('97) to later disband in '98 when the core of the band relocated to Belgium where they reformed in 2002 releasing a self-financed EP.

"Now Vibrion returns stronger than ever with an album that is a fucking brutal fresh air into the so standardized death metal scene. 'Bacterya' was recorded in September 2015 at Blackout Studios in Brussels (Belgium) by Jeremie Bézier and mastered by the mighty Andy Classen at Stage One Studios in Germany.

"The 10 songs included here displays a brutal yet heavy but above all, unique, original and personal brand of Death Metal of stunning quality that blends such varied elements from bands like Immolation, Celtic Frost, Morbid Angel, Sepultura, Suffocation... into a unique entity that's VIBRION!!" Speirling Re-Releasing "The Piper"

Emerging from the fog once more, Speirling's sole output "The Piper" is due to be re-released on April 1st, 2016 via Ulthar Records.

Originally released in 2008, "The Piper" was poorly distributed, yet well-received, among the darkest corners of the black metal listenership. This 7-track release tells a tale of a piper neglected and raised by a community of seemingly civilised people, corrupted and weakened by their cultural Christianity. The Piper rejects them as they rejected him, but not before taking their children out of the light and into the darkness.

Consisting of vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Dan Capp (Winterfylleth) and drummer Mark Capp, Speirling is now defunct but the band's memory lives on in the form of "The Piper," now remastered with new artwork to pay homage to an overlooked gem.

1. Tempest of Truth
2. Filthy and Cold
3. Wrath of the Wild
4. Three Shrill Notes
5. The World Breaks

Metallica Named 2016 Record Store Day Ambassador

Record Store Day is thrilled to announce its ambassador for 2016: Grammy Award-winning, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees Metallica!

Metallica is no stranger to Record Store Day, this year set for Saturday, April 16th, a special day in support of independent record stores and record store culture worldwide, now in its ninth year.

"Independent record stores are part of Metallica's DNA," said drummer Lars Ulrich. "They have been pivotal in shaping each one of us into the music fanatics we've all become. We could not be any prouder to be Record Store Day Ambassadors for 2016 and are looking forward to screaming from every rooftop the next few months about everything independent record store and beyond."

This year the band's official release will fit into a wider theme of Record Store Day 2016, highlighting the relationship between U.S. record stores and their French counterparts, "Disquaire Day," following the tragic events in Paris in November 2015. Metallica will release "Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité, Live at Le Bataclan," with proceeds to benefit Fondation de France's Give For France charity.

The live recording set list includes: "The Four Horsemen," "Leper Messiah," "No Remorse," "Fade To Black," "Frantic," "Ride The Lightning," "Blackened," and encores: "Seek & Destroy," and "Damage, Inc." More...

Rotten Sound Streaming "Inhuman Treatment"

Finnish grindcore powerhouse Rotten Sound is streaming an explosive new track taken from new full-length, "Abuse to Suffer." The track - titled "Inhumane Treatment" - is streaming now in the player below.

Regarding the new track, bassist Kristian Toivainen comments: "As I did not plan 'Inhumane Treatment' to become a Rotten Sound track, it was easily done without any stressing. I was just playing around with some riffs and thought about writing a slow death metal song in the style of Bolt Thrower and Dismember.

"It had quite many riffs, but after I while I got bored with all that slowness, added grind and d-beat parts and turned it into our tune. Keijo is using the classic ENT-Doom-UK-crust-grandpa-vocal-style in the chorus, which works like a charm on top of the d-beat." More...

Rapheumets Well Streaming New Single

Blending a sound that is a complex mix of classical orchestrations, cosmic synths, and extreme metal to portray the epics of parallel worlds, Hickory, N.C. based Rapheumets Well (Ra-few-mets will release "The Exile" on March 18th, 2016 via Test Your Metal Records.

Check out second single "Planetary Cenotaph" in the player below. Drummer Joshua Ward comments on the newly released track:

"'Planetary Cenotaph,' being the last song on the album, was a bit 'challenging' for us in terms of composition as we write the music to the story. The main character just destroyed an entire planet. Due to his immortal 'curse' he is floating in the stellar remnants of his home-world.

"While his body is reforming and he is adrift he has a lot of time to think. His wife wife and kids were murdered, his empire betrayed him, he was tortured, he has seen some very wild stuff. He is processing the events in a very numb and displaced way.

"The emotions of the song actually came from the deaths of family members of the band recently. In the last two years we lost four parents and a grandparent, all within months of each other. So, this became a memorial song to them while keeping to the context of the story. What better way for us to honor someone than to write a metal song!" More...

Native Construct Posts New Playthrough Video

All levels are welcome (beginner through advanced; rates/scheduling is flexible), with Myles specializing in theory/composition and programming, and Poh Hock specializing in guitar technique and improvisation. If interested, fans can contact Myles here, while Poh Hock can be reached at this location.

To showcase their abilities, Myles and Poh Hock filmed a live pla-through of the track "Chromatic Lights," taken from their recently released debut, "Quiet World." The duo comments:

"'Chromatic Lights' is the penultimate track from our debut album, 'Quiet World'. It's a 3-part fugue on the primary theme of the final track, 'Chromatic Aberration.' The episodic materials between each entry are derived from the final track's secondary motives. If you happen to be a large nerd, it's a lot of fun to listen to both tracks and dissect all the parallels. Enjoy!" More...

Throw the Fight is back: the band will release new album "Transmissions" via Bullet Tooth on April 8th, 2016. The group worked with producers Carson Slovak and Grant McFarland, whose credits include August Burns Red, Texas In July, Everclear, Affiance, Live, and more.

Today, Throw The Fight shares the first taste of music from "Transmissions" with a lyric video for "Drown With Me."

Of the track, vocalist James Clark said, "The song is about realizing you are trapped in a relationship that isn't going anywhere and you’re just going through the motions. It's about you both knowing it's over and that it's not going to end well, but it's easier to stay trapped and unhappy than move on into the unknown." More...

Gadget Posts New Video

Swedish grindcore act Gadget just dropped a new video from upcoming LP, "The Great Destroyer," which will end a decade-long gap since the group's prior album when the record is released via Relapse the first week of March.

The arresting visuals were made in compliance with the album-opening attack of "Enemies Of Reason." States Gadget's Rikard Olsson on the track:

"It's one of the very last songs that we wrote for the album, in December 2013 actually. I've had the idea with the drum pattern and the different parts for some time, but no riffs. So I just threw it together late one night when I realized that the recording session was closing in and that we were lacking the simple and short, fast songs. William (Blackmon) wrote the lyrics for it later on and I think it turned out quite good for an album opener."

Adds Blackmon, "The track is meant to be a march for the atheist revolution; a salute to the critical mind." More...

Texas Hippie Coalition Releasing New Album

Following the "Ride On" and a position on the 2014 Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival, gritty southern metal four-piece Texas Hippie Coalition is back with fourth full-length Carved Records album, "Dark Side of Black," due to be released on April 22nd, 2016.

Embracing southern roots while exploring a heavier sound than ever before, "Dark Side of Black" achieves a murky, groovier feel while not straying too far from THC's tried and true brand of rugged outlaw rock.

The album was recorded at Boot Hill Studio in Corinth, TX and Valve Studios in Dallas, TX with producer Sterling Winfield (Pantera, Hellyeah, Damageplan).

"'Dark Side of Black' is our heaviest album to date for sure," states THC vocalist Big Dad Ritch. "We've learned a lot having made four full-length albums prior. We're trying to use that knowledge we learned to make an album that can maintain what Ride On and Peacemaker bring to the table, yet we wanted it to lend itself more to the power that is the red dirt metal of Rollin and Pride of Texas. So it feels like Pride meets Peacemaker. Top shelf THC meets bottom shelf liquor..." More...

The Best Heavy Metal Cover Art From 2015

Inspired by Oscuro's “...And Justice For Art” series, I decided to take a look back at some of the metal cover art from 2015 that has stuck with me into the new year.

With hundreds (thousands?) of metal releases every year, there's a ton of artwork that gets splashed across my screen on any given day. While some of it is godawful, for the most part heavy metal gets album artwork right and really creates moods and tones you don't get with the cover designs of other genres.

From Vincent Locke's infamous Cannibal Corpse watercolors to the many, many different cover pieces by Travis Smith, there's some truly iconic artwork in metal and a ton of ground covered in terms of styles and themes.

This past year we got some really great cover art in just about every sub-genre. Unfortunately sometimes killer album art does not mean there will be equally killer music inside, though. The one imbalance that stands out most for me this year was the Marco Hassman cover for Contrarian's “Polemic.”

That cover is jaw-dropping, but it's also intensely interesting in the details. I mean, that's a giant space marlin, and it's apparently engaged in battle with regular old non-organic, metal ships. Everything about that makes me want to hear the album in question. Unfortunately the music didn't grab me (the vocals in particular killed my enjoyment, and the instrumentation was pretty standard tech death), but the artwork unquestionably did its job here.

Wishing Well Releases "Sacrifice" Music Video

Finnish hard rockers Wishing Well released a video for the song "Sacrifice" off the latest release "Chasing Rainbows," issued via Inverse Records on February 5th.

"The new album has got some very positive feedback and we decided to gain momentum by coming up with a video while the album is still fresh. We wanted to introduce the heavier side of Wishing Well and that’s why we chose this song," says lead vocalist Peter James Goodman. "It’s the slowest track on the album and there’s really heavy groove there. People seem to like the song and we like it too!"

"We didn’t really have a budget for the video but we didn’t let that stop us," says guitar player Anssi Korkiakoski, who came up with the idea for the video. "We’re happy that it’s out there now, at least people can see some faces this time. It’s the music that really matters but of course videos are very important and we’ll certainly come up with more videos later."

The band is now promoting the album and making plans for the future. They will support Graham Bonnet (with whom they cooperated on "Hippie Heart Gypsy Soul" single) in Helsinki on April 21st, with more dates to be confirmed later.

Urban Yeti Records Signs Thrown Into Exile

Thrown Into Exile (TIE), a Los Angeles-based metal act, has signed with independent record label Urban Yeti Records. The lineup features Henry Derek (vocals), Mario Rubio (guitar), Ray Sanchez (guitar), Dave Corsile (bass) and Zac Morris (drums). The first track released by the band, "Declination," sets the tone for their upcoming album, which promises to be loud, fast and heavy.

Speaking on the origin of their name, Rubio commented, “Everyone, at some point in life, has felt singled out based on their views or opinions of something, hence Thrown Into Exile. Our songs deal with the realities of the world and what people deal with day to day.” The band says their sound draws from several different genres including groove, thrash and melodic death metal.

Lead singer Henry Derek adds, "This is something that Mario & I have worked hard on for quite some time. Practically 2+ years in the making. Within this time the other guys have contributed a lot as well and I can say that we've become friends. I'm thrilled that the metal world finally gets to hear a proper full-length album & I'm proud of what TIE has accomplished."

The band has recently finished recording the debut album with producer Jake Pitts (Black Veil Brides). According to Pitts, "As a producer you are supposed to help the band be the best version of that band they can be. Thrown Into Exile is filled with talented guys and the guitar players are riff machines and shred for days. It's been really cool to help take their ideas and really bring it all to life, even collaborate on some songs and be able to use that heavier side of my music personality."

The band has patiently waited for their opportunity to sign with a label, having played on the 2013 Mayhem Festival and with numerous established artists including Fear Factory, Testament, Death Angel and Sepultura. Rubio remarked, "Signing a deal with a label that cares about your visions and goals and who knows how to get you to where you want to be is on another level. We couldn't be any more excited and happy to be a part of Urban Yeti, we are ready to work and be on the road."

The band will release their debut full length late spring/early summer this year and plans to tour in support. Check out "Declination" here: More...
