Ensiferum Releasing Greatest Hits Album

Spinefarm Records has announced details of the first compilation release of iconic pagan metal band Ensiferum. The collection "Two Decades of Greatest Sword Hits" due out April 1st, is a testimony of things past but definitely worth remembering. It is available for pre-order here.

The band comments: "Twenty years since the first notes were played in Ensiferum's first rehearsals. I doubt that 15-years old Markus Toivonen had any idea what he had just started and what kind of journey the band would begin that day. So much has happened in 20 years, but the cornerstones of our music - folk and metal - are still there and we will keep exploring this unholy combination until we die.

"We have always composed songs with lots of patience and hard self critisism but still wanted to have some blink in the corner of the eye and push our musical boundaries. This compilation gives the listener great chance to hear how the bandhas evolved during these years. Enjoy and folk on!" More...

Ghost Bath Signs With Nuclear Blast

Nuclear Blast is pleased to announce the signing of depressive black metal sensation Ghost Bath. Originally only available on CD and LP in Europe, "Moonlover" is now available digitally worldwide with an exclusive bonus track.

"'Moonlover' is the first part of a trilogy of albums we plan to release," comments Ghost Bath mastermind, Nameless. "It encompasses the human experience and dwells within the minds of those who walk the earth. It deals with a longing for death and an eventual journey to realize the death instinct, Thanatos. A sort of numb sadness drenches this albums tracks; melancholy, tragedy, and despair all take hold of 'Moonlover' at any given moment. The bonus track, 'Ascension,' is a transitional point for the band. The title refers to a journey into the heavens, a hint to where the next installment of our album trilogy will go. We feel that it envelopes the sounds of 'Moonlover,' while also leading the listener to what will come next."

"The music video for 'Golden Number' was birthed from a short story written by myself," continues Nameless. "It is an introduction into the band as a whole, revealing the definition of GHOST BATH; the act of committing suicide by drowning. Symbolism can be found throughout the video ritual, mainly, the symbolic and literal death of oneself as an ultimate solution to the unrelenting anxieties and stressors of waking life."

NilExistence Releasing "Existence In Revelation"

Moravia, NY death metal group NilExistence will release debut album "Existence in Revelation" on March 25th. The album includes a 12-page booklet with artwork by Seth Siro Anton (Septicflesh), and was mixed/mastered at Hertz Studio (Behemoth, Decapitated, Vader) by the Wieslawski brothers in Poland.

Pre-orders are up now here and the track "Primordial Transgression" can be heard below. Drummer/vocalist Kyle Kratzer (ex-Disfigured Dead) had this to say about the album title and lyrical content:

"'Existence In Revelation' is based on the life experiences that have affected Dave Gruver (guitar/vocals) and myself during the writing period. The idea behind the title comes from how I personally felt when in the midst of a darker period.

"When one finds himself in a 'revelation' type state, they have a few choices in which to handle the new information or realization they discovered; they may take the newly aquired knowledge and expand upon their problem/life, take nothing from the experience and brush it off, or stay stuck in the revelation itself (which is the route explored on the album.)

"As if in a bubble, one neither acts nor fails to act upon the new knowlegde, but instead remains within the revelation (bubble). The lyrics are based upon what I saw and learned within this revelation." More...

Borknagar Comments On Reaction To New Album

"Winter Thrice" (reviewed here) the 10th studio album from Norway's very own progressive / epic black metal pioneers Borknagar is out now through Century Media Records.

In the United States, "Winter Thrice" hit # 17 on the Billboard Heatseekers and #15 on the Billboard Hard Rock chart. In Germany the album reached #62, in Switzerland # 90, and in Finland #44. Guitarist Jens F. checked in with a comment regarding the release:

"The first feedback on 'Winter Thrice' has been completely mind blowing to us! Our dedicated fans have made so much fuzz that we even seem to attract some new listeners, resulting in listings on album charts in several countries. Even the video for the title song is being received in a way that has us debating if we should do another one!

"We are truly inspired to act on the response and have been working for a while to set up a tour, and here we go! 12 European gigs added to the summer festivals already makes this our busiest year since 1999, and we hope to add even more. We intend to adjust our plans according to the feedback we get, so make sure your voice is heard!" More...

Demise Of The Crown Streams "Human Denial"

Montreal, QC's Demise Of The Crown is now streaming second single "Human Denial," taken from the band's upcoming debut self-titled album produced by Kevin Jardine (Uplift Studios, guitarist of Slaves On Dope) and mastered by Joao Carvalho (Protest The Hero, Alexisonfire, Rush).

The album is due out on March 4th and features this Canadian power metal band's strong melodic death metal and hard rock influences fused with epic choruses, classic high ranged vocal,s plus explosive guitar solos. Guitarist Manuel Iradian commetns:

"This track 'Human Denial' is one of the heavier songs on the album. The Limp Bizkit inspired intro riff was something I've been noodling around with, but never thought we would use, the rest of the song just unfolded from there. The lyrics have a lot of metaphors that hint at topics about revenge, torture, abuse and inhumanity. At the end there is a massive breakdown tempo change inspired by Pantera's 'This Love' and the guitar solo has a few country southern influences reminiscent of Dimebagl" More...

Mortiis Comments On Return Of The Mask

Mortiis has issued a statement regarding his infamous mask, which made its return in a recent video clip. He comments:

"For years I've been stubbornly telling everyone who wanted me to revive the mask to get fucked, more or less. The idea of the mask just rotted away for me, and for a long time it was just this vile thing that I couldn't relate to. It was someone else, and everyone wanted me to go back to being someone else, so how do you think I'd react to that?

"I needed to go full circle. I suppose I had this sort of nihilistic view of the mask for a long time. It just lost all meaning to me. So I eventually worked my way through the disillusionment, hate, indifference and finally back into the reincarnated goodwill towards it.

"The return of the mask - at least for it to be part of the equation again - had to happen sooner or later. I guess I just needed to put a lot of stuff in its right place in my mind before I was ready to consider putting it back on. Let's face it, though, I'm a sucker for visual sh*t, so obviously the mask was bound to come back at some point. I just wasn't ready to admit it to myself until now, and certainly not to some entitled ass hat yelling that he wants it back." More...

Universal Mind Project (a/k/a UMP) - a collaborative project between musicians from all around the globe founded by composer/guitarist Michael Alexander - signed on with Inner Wound Recordings for the long in waiting debut release "The Jaguar Priest." "The Jaguar Priest" also includes a myriad of vocal guest performances from Nils K Rue (Pagan’s Mind), Mark Jansen (Epica, Mayan), Charlie Dominici (ex-Dream Theater) and Diego Valdez (Helker/Electo_nomicon) -, each of whom add their own distinctive style to the songs.
