Manntis "Axe Of Redemption" Vid To Premier on Fuse
Southern California quintet MANNTIS will join the International Extreme Music Festival tour on September 17 alongside GOD DETHRONED, NIGHTRAGE, EPOCH OF UNLIGHT and THINE EYES BLEED. The group recently completed a successful nationwide headlining U.S. tour with EYES OF FIRE in support of "Sleep In Your Grave", their critically acclaimed debut album. Their first video, "Axe of Redemption", is scheduled to make its worldwide television premiere on Fuse's "Metal Asylum" on Monday, Sept. 12. Look for it to make its "Headbangers Ball" debut later this month.
Jake Sirokman (vocals) checks in with the following update: "First off, I would like to welcome the new guys to the band, Josh Feathers on drums and Daniel Racadio on the guitar; these two are amazing, and we feel proud to have them. Second, we are very excited about this upcoming tour (International Extreme Music Festival). Even though we are not a death metal band, I feel we can still bring some chaos to the stage and have a good time. Also, just to play The Metro in Chicago is a huge step in our career, and we are thankful for the opportunity and look forward to tearin' up the stage. Speaking of tours, we had a great time with the EYES OF FIRE boys on our last trip, and we hope to hit the road with them again in the future. We are also stoked about the premiere of our video, 'Axe of Redemption', which will appear on Fuse's 'Metal Asylum' and MTV2's 'Headbangers Ball'. It has taken some time, but it is worth the wait. This is it from me, and we hope to catch you on the road soon."
Brian "Head" Welch Talks To Rolling Stone
Rolling Stone: Why did you leave KORN?
Brian "Head" Welch: "When we first started, KORN had power over all of our music and what we said — the songs are pretty outspoken. Then with the last record, it seemed like everybody shifted from being down with the fans to wanting to make money, and our managers started getting really involved. They were telling us what songs to play — and, I mean, they manage the BACKSTREET BOYS! They started talking about hiring writers for the new record. I don't know if they did. And I was going, 'Dude, this is stupid.' I was a part of a band that's known for not selling out, that's written every album with the most heartfelt lyrics — and now they're changing into a machine. We had a bunch of battles — three people got kicked out at one time or another — and my friends weren't even my friends anymore. So I left.
"At the same time, I was hooked on drugs so bad — everybody knows — and I just didn't care, the last couple of years. I was really into my depression. And I heard my daughter, at five years old, at home singing, 'All day I dream about sex' [from the KORN song 'A.D.I.D.A.S.'], and I was like, 'I don't want to do this anymore!' I wanted to be a better person.
"I found Jesus, and I'm totally healed from drug abuse and alcoholism. I was in my closet doing lines, and I had a bill rolled up, and I stopped and looked at myself. And I said, 'Jesus, if you're real, please take this addiction from me. My child lost her mother to drugs — please give her one parent who's free of this. Please make me want to live.' I had a bunch of eightballs, and I threw them away. Rehab didn't work; looking at my daughter didn't help me kick drugs. But I felt like I could do it finally. Miraculously, [the addiction] fell away from me within a week. I started having hope."
Rolling Stone: Have your friends in the rock world been supportive? Were some alienated by the change?
Brian "Head" Welch: "I wanted to go and tell the media that I found Christ, and that I'm switching my life from crazy, evil darkness to light. I felt the spirit of God tell me, 'You're going to be ridiculed. But never be afraid to claim my name.' But I'm so happy, it doesn't matter what people think.
"I'm really into learning about the Word and what it says in the Bible. I'd thought that church was just a manmade thing to get people to be goodie-goodies. But it's not about a bunch of rules; it's about the relationships God has with people, and reading about these people doing great things. I said, 'I want to walk with You like these Bible heroes.' This is like a roller coaster, better than any drug I've ever felt."
Rolling Stone: How has this affected your day-to-day life?
Brian "Head" Welch: "The first thing that I do when I get up is say 'hi' to God. People will think I'm a little out there, because I talk to Him all day, wherever I am. If I go into a grocery store, it's 'All right, God, help me pick out the right food so I can be healthy.' I just sold my house and moved out of town because I thought God wanted me to move. I sold all my stuff, and I'm home-schooling my daughter with a nice lady. I'm kind of floating around right now."

KoRn Picks First Single Off New Album
According to FMQB, KORN have selected "Twisted Transistor" as the first single off their upcoming album, due on November 22 via Virgin Records. The single is scheduled to go for radio adds on October 3.
KORN's recently inked deal with Virgin is believed to be for two albums and a one-third interest in the band's publishing, merchandising and ticket sales as part of a new contractual model, a la Robbie Williams. The band's as-yet-untitled new effort was mixed by Terry Date, who has previously worked with such artists as DEFTONES, PANTERA and SOULFLY, among others. Matrix (AVRIL LAVIGNE, THE MOONEY SUZUKI) and Atticus Ross (BAD RELIGION, PINK) were responsible for the production duties on the follow-up to 2003's "Take a Look in the Mirror", with no songs from the band's sessions with Dallas Austin slated to appear on the effort. Other songtitles expected to appear on the CD include "Liar", "Politix", "Last Legal Drug", "Le Petit Mort", "It's Me Again", "Coming Undone", "I've Seen It All" and "Souvenir of Sadness".

General Surgery to Record New Album
Swedish grind band, General Surgery have issued the following statement regurading their upcoming album:
"The calm before the storm of gore is upon us, to use a trve metal phrase. Or something equally daft along those lines.
We've now booked studio time for December for our upcoming full-length on Listenable Records. If all goes as planned it should hit the stores three months later, around March/April. It should be a sanguine audio feast of the best of our old material (from our previous split releases, not Necrology... too bad) and a bevy of new material which should hopefully be equally awesome. If not, it's not our fault naturally.
It'll be recorded at Offbeat Studio, since we found that they are the most apt to give us the filthy sound we aspire for. Stay tuned for more updates as we can make them up.
In other news, the long-awaited split CD/LP with us and Butcher ABC is starting to take form. The CD will be released by Obliteration Records and the vinyl version by Living Dead Society Records. Expect it to be out some time later next year.
Beware of our foul stage personas on the European continent in October, more specifically the Bloodshed festival in Holland on the 22nd of October, along with Birdflesh, Gruesome Stuff Relish, Total Fucking Destruction and a myriad of other bands. Yay"

Ozzfest Over, Iommi Resumes Solo Career
MTV.com reports: Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi has no problem organizing his priorities. So when Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne called him early this year and told him they wanted Black Sabbath to headline the 2005 Ozzfest, he postponed plans to tour with his own band, Iommi, in order to head back to the stage with Sabbath.
However, by committing so resolutely to Sabbath, Iommi has been unable to support the recent release of his second solo album, "Fused," a granite-solid slab that sounds more like a groove-saturated cross between Deep Purple and Audioslave than anything by Sabbath.
Fittingly enough, Iommi was joined on the record by ex-Deep Purple singer/bassist Glenn Hughes (who sang with Sabbath in the '80s), session drummer extraordinaire Kenny Aronoff and bassist/keyboardist Bob Marlette, who also produced the disc and co-wrote all of the songs. Now that Ozzfest is done, Iommi and his bandmates plan to hit the rehearsal studio, then tour to support Fused.
"I'm really looking forward to playing onstage with these guys," Iommi said on a down day from Ozzfest. "Kenny and Glenn have lots of enthusiasm and they certainly push me when we're all playing together, which is great."
Even though he's eager to start touring for "Fused," Iommi said it was no sacrifice to postpone those plans for Ozzfest. Ozzy recently announced that this summer was the last Ozzfest he will headline, although he may play occasional shows in the future. "We really get into it," he said. "I go for walks with [drummer] Bill [Ward] and we talk about the band and the shows and our lives. It's a good vibe. The only unfortunate thing is when we have to cancel shows, which is really disappointing. Ozzy's had a problem with his throat recently. He had to fly back to see a specialist in Los Angeles and he was as upset as anybody. But it's one of things you can't do anything about. If his voice goes, it goes. What can you do?"

Hatebreed/Crowbar Collaboration Work On Album
KINGDOM OF SORROW, the new project featuring HATEBREED frontman Jamey Jasta and CROWBAR guitarist/vocalist Kirk Windstein, will resume recording their debut album this weekend at Planet Z studios in Massachusetts with producer Zeuss (HATEBREED, SHADOWS FALL). 13 tracks plus a cover of MOTÖRHEAD's "No Class" are being recorded for the effort, which is tentatively due in early 2006 through an as-yet-undisclosed label. A short audio preview of the upcoming CD is available at the band's newly launched official web site.
Jasta had previously stated about the KINGDOM OF SORROW debut, "This is seriously going to blow people's minds! Steve Gibb from CROWBAR (formerly of BLACK LABEL SOCIETY) [flew] up from Miami to rip some solos and leads on a few tracks. We are also going to have two INSANE guest appearances that will definitely shock and excite people. . . Kirk is singing with me as well as playing the bass and guitar on the album, and we have both been writing and bringing ideas to the table. It's been killer!"
AC/DC Considering Double Album For Next Release
Guitarist Angus Young told the Hit Parader magazine that AC/DC have written and recorded so much material over the last year that they might seriously consider making their next album release a double disc.
"We do have a lot of songs at the moment," he said. "But that's not incredibly unusual for us. We tend to have a lot of material at some point in the recording process, then begin to whittle it down. But this time, we like a lot of what we're hearing, so the idea of expanding things out is not out of the realm of possibility."
As previously reported, AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson joined VELVET REVOLVER onstage during their appearance at Hard Rock Live in Orlando, Florida on Tuesday (Sept. 6) for a rendition of LED ZEPPELIN's "Rock and Roll". Check out a photo of Johnson with VELVET REVOLVER guitarist Slash.
In other news, Angus and brother Malcolm Young now each have one of Mackie's new Digital X Bus X.200 recording consoles in their personal studios (located in Netherlands and England, respectively). In addition, they have both specified Mackie HDR24/96 hard disk recorders and completed their updates with a pair of Mackie HR824 Active Studio Monitors in each studio.
Undercover News recently reported that AC/DC are among the artists who are said to be planning performances in Australia next March to mark the 2006 Commonwealth Games to be held in Melbourne.
AC/DC's "Back in Black" album was recently certified for U.S. shipments of 21 million copies, tying it for fifth place with BILLY JOEL's "Greatest Hits Vol. 1 & II" on the Recording Industry Assn. of America's all-time best-sellers list.

Rammstein Set Release Date For New Album
Universal Music has set an October 31 European release date for the new RAMMSTEIN album, "Rosenrot". An audio clip of the album's first single, "Benzin", has been posted online at Motor.de. The single will precede the album on October 10.
As previously reported, the band recorded several songs during the sessions for "Reise, Reise" which were omitted from the CD's final track listing. During a recent session at a Berlin studio, RAMMSTEIN recorded several more tracks and recently mixed the combined collection of new material for the "Rosenrot" album.
Recorded primarily in Spain (El Cortijo Studio, Malaga), "Reise Reise" (translated as "Voyage, Voyage" or "Journey, Journey") is the follow-up to "Mutter", which entered The Billboard 200 chart at No. 77 back in April 2001.
