Spitfire Re-sign With Goodfellow Records

Goodfellow Records has announced the signing of Virginia metalcore quintet SPITFIRE to a new two album deal. The band, who recorded a CDEP for Goodfellow in 2001, is currently working on a new upcoming full-length album. It will be their first new release in four years.

“We couldn’t be happier to have Spitfire as an addition to our lovely family of bands,” says Goodfellow label owner Chris Logan. “2006 couldn’t come soon enough, so the world can hear the new chapter in this bands career.”

The band is spending the month of September recording at Red Planet studios in Virginia with producer Andreas Magnusson (Black Dahlia Murder, Scarlet). The album, tentatively entitled Self-Help, will be released in early 2006.

The band recently reformed, adding guitarist Scottie Henry from the metal outfit Norma Jean and Dan Tulloh from the shock rocking Scarlet. Musically, SPITFIRE plays a hybrid of metal and hardcore that is comparable to bands such as Every Time I Die, The Melvins, and even Deadguy as well as the speedy punk rock of Hot Snakes. You can check out some of their past material on MySpace.

Tue Madsen To Mix New Kataklysm Album

Kataklysm guitarist Jean-François Dagenais has posted this message on the band's website:

"As must of you know, the recording sessions for the new Kataklysm album are done. This time around I wanna try something different and get another producer involved with the album other then myself (I have produced and mixed the last 5 Kataklysm releases). I wanna give this release 2 different perspectives, 2 different feels to it, so we decided to enlist TUE MADSEN (The Haunted, Mnemic) to mix the new album and I think the combination between both of us will be lethal!.. I think this will be the best thing to do, as I've been swamped with projects from all over Canada and been working on the Kataklysm album for 2 months. Having someone completely fresh to work the last parts of the album will be great. So I'll be shipping the record over to TUE at Antfarm studios in Denmark very soon. "In the Arms of Devastation" will be released worldwide Feb. 20th on Nuclear Blast Records and is guaranteed to blow your mind!!"

Gorefest Choose "For The Masses" For First Video

Gorefest has announced on their website that the band has decided to choose the opening track of their latest album, "La Muerte," to be the first video.

Guitarist Boudewijn Vincent Bonebakker writes: "'For the Masses' is a fast and heavy death metal pounder that gives you a Gorefest that shows it's very much alive. In the near future you can expect music samples from the 'La Muerte' album. Tue Madsen did a hell of a job in mixing the songs to their full potential. 'La Muerte' will prove to be not for the faint of heart, be sure of that!"

BLS Announce Hurricane Benefit Show

Artemis recording artist Zakk Wylde’s Black Label Society will be performing a benefit show on October 11th at the recently opened City Hall venue in Nashville, TN. All profits will be donated to the American Red Cross to benefit the victims of the Hurricane Katrina disaster. Tickets are currently on sale at all Ticketmaster locations and online at ticketmaster.com.

Wylde offered: “The bottom line is this…we have a lot of Black Label brothers and sisters in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. We know we have to do the right thing to help out the thousands of volunteers, National Guard, Armed Forces and the local police. It’s the least we can do to help out. When family is down, you pick them up. Now it’s time to kick some ass. God bless, beyond forever, stay strong.” More...

Maximum Overdrive Pay Tribute To 9/11

Heavy metal rockers Maximum Overdrive, whose name was derived from the Stephen King 1980's classic horror movie, have just released a new song that pays tribute to the heroes and victims of 9/11. "Let's Roll," which features fervent sound bites from President George Bush, is a blistering heartfelt battle cry of support for America's ongoing battle against terrorism.

Maximum Overdrive, a band that has been described as a cross between Black Sabbath and Metallica, have recently issued their self-titled debut album, which features the tribute "Let's Roll" and can be obtained through their website. Plans for a major U.S. tour in support of their latest release is in the works.

Stretch Arm Strong perform with George Clinton

Right after Stretch Arm Strong finished playing songs off their new record, Free At Last, to a packed invite-only pre CMJ party at New York's SCB, a colorful dreadlocked singer made his way up on stage as SAS drummer John Barry laid down some rather out of character beats. Stretch vocalist, Chris McLane, introduced (though really, at this point none was needed) and handed the mic to George Clinton, of Parliament Funkadelic, who immediately went in on some improvisational funk rhymes.

For almost 10 minutes, bass player Jeremy Jeffers and Barry kept up the rhythm, not too surprisingly well, considering they are one of the best combos out there, while guitarists David Sease and JC Lopez traded off on solos whenever Clinton took a break to beam out at the captivated crowd.

"It was our pleasure to be a part of something so great like that. It was the first time we've ever played a CMJ related event and to have that included with someone as influential as George Clinton is mind-boggling. We all had so much fun. It was an honor and a privilege."
