Former Cradle of Filth/Himsa Members In Project

Matt Wicklund (guitar; ex-HIMSA), Martin Powell (keyboards; ex-CRADLE OF FILTH, MY DYING BRIDE) and James McIlroy (guitar; ex-CRADLE OF FILTH) have joined forces in a brand-new project called PREY. After leaving all of their former bands, Wicklund, Powell and McIlroy contacted each other and found that they shared a common musical vision. (Matt, Martin and James had become friends after spending several weeks touring together on the MTV2 "Headbanger's Ball" tour last winter.) This vision manifested itself early September in their London and Sheffield writing sessions. Several "melodic, thrashy, groove-driven, thick-sounding pieces of pure metal" have been written and "everyone is ecstatic," according to a press release. The rest of the band lineup will be announced in late December/early January.

Sepultura Record Bass For New Album

SEPULTURA have posted the following message on their official website:

"Almost done? Almost. Last Sunday Paulo finished recording the bass tracks for SEPULTURA's new album.

Most of the bass lines were done in the studio, while recording them. Song by song working on every detail. Amazing bass sound and really cool bass lines which will make the difference, for sure. You have to listen to understand!

The guys will have a busy week. Tomorrow they will all be in the studio to listen to all the songs - now with drums, guitar and bass - to check how is everything going so far. If needed, Andreas will redo some stuff and then Derrick starts recording vocals.

Thursday they take a break to practice for the show in the morning and do the sound check in the afternoon. On Friday the guys play with SLIPKNOT in São Paulo and right after that, back to the studio to finish recording the album."

Just For Fun

Boingboing's "Black Metal for Dummies"

BoingBoing.net has made a post, likely inspired by the most recent "Top 10 Most Ridiculous Black Metal Pics of All Time". The post contains several pictures for illustrative purposes as well as external links, so I will simply link to it here. The intruduction to the post starts like this:

"What is black metal? There are as many definitions as there are demons in Satan's subterranean condo. And like those hot-and-bothered helldwellers, Black Metal afficionados are a contentious lot -- sometimes even murdering one other over who is and isn't true to the genre."

BoingBoing.net posts all sorts of weird stories, and it's funny to see a stray Black Metal post, however devoid of real content.

A link contributed by a reader also worth a glance is this How to make your very own Black Metal band.

The album just recently became available in select Christian bookstores throughout the country, with the hopes to expand it to a larger level as the band continues to develop in the burgeoning Christian Metalcore movement. Vinnie Paul Says There Were No Plans For Reunion

Former PANTERA/DAMAGEPLAN drummer Vinnie Paul was recently interviewed by Guitar World magazine for its December 2005 issue. In the interview Vinnie spoke about many subjects, including the possibility of a PANTERA reunion prior to Dimebag's death and the status of unreleased video and audio recordings of Dimebag. Among the things Vinnie said:

* Vinnie confirmed that he has started a record label that will release a "DIMEvision" DVD and the DAVID ALAN COE/PANTERA project REBEL MEETS REBEL around Christmas.

* Vinnie stated that there was never going to be a PANTERA reunion, even before the tragedy with Dime.

Vinnie said, "Let's make this clear once and for all: for any fan out there that believed any of the bullshit said by certain people, there never was gonna be a PANTERA reunion, ever."

* Vinnie also informed us that DAMAGEPLAN had songs written and recorded for their sophmore album. Vinnie says he doesn't know what he is going to do with the material.

" Vinnie said, "Either I'll have some of Dime's favorite singers sing on 'em and turn them into jams, or maybe Pat (Lachman, ex-DAMAGEPLAN) will sing on them and it'll be DAMAGEPLAN 2. I don't know yet. Right now they're magic that hopefully someday everybody will get to hear, and as long as I'm around I think eventually they will get heard."

* Vinnie also talked about the pre-"Cowboys from Hell" PANTERA albums, Anselmo-era PANTERA albums, Dime getting asked to join MEGADETH, how PANTERA got signed to Atco, Meeting Alex and Eddie Van Halen, and his own musical future.

Vinnie said, "I've got to find the right situation."

* Vinnie also talked about the tragedy involving Dime. Vinnie had a special request he wanted everyone to hear.

Vinnie said, "I have a hard time believeing that some nut job just shot the best friend I have ever had for no reason. So, I'd just like to spread the message to anybody out there, that if you know or hear anything about it, please contact the authorities and let 'em know what you know."
