I loved the show as a kid, sometimes the rapid fire gags that barely make sense are great, but all in all the show is just kind of "there", it merely exists, though I do like Homer he reminds me of my own dad...the shows been trucking since I was in third grade which is kind of amazing....

Anyway, this comes as no surprise, they've had Aerosmith, Cyprus Hill, Smashing Pumpkins, Sting, Bette Middler, Michael Jackson, Paul and Linda McCartney etc....At this juncture why not Metallica.

As for Metallica themselves, I just want to see them pull out of this terrible nosedive.... but with lyrics, riffs, and vocals like those found on "St. Anger" I think we can kiss any possibility of "Lightning"-"Puppets" era brilliance bye bye.

How can you say the lyrics on "St. Anger" are crappy? They are primal but very thought provocing. I don't agree with the stunts Metallica pulled concerning Napster and the alienating of Jason, but they have pulled themselves together and St. Anger was definately a step in the right direction. James seems more vibrant than he did 15 years ago now that he's cleaned up and focused. Trujillio is an excellent bassist and although I miss Newsted terribly, T. is an excellent addition to the band. The dudes are gettin' up there (god aren't we all?) but they are still churning out kick a$$ music. You can't stay stuck in "MOP" and "Right the Lightning" mode forever. Most of the times bands GROW musically. Christ, look at the Beatles. Do you think they would have been regarded as rock gods if they got stuck in their "Love me Do" sound? NO, it's all about progressing... I've loved Metallica since I was 13 (circa 1988) and I'll continue to dig their music.

One thing to say, thought, about some comments made. I wish things had been different with Jason, but let's see what happens with Rob. He's an awesome bass player, and he seemed to inpsire Metallica. I read that he had a lot to do with them playing a lot of their old sh** on the road last year,
because he could pull off a lot of parts the way Cliff used to play. Who knows, maybe he will inspire a great album from those guys.
I wonder if they will just have an appearance on the Simpsons, or actually do something musical on the show.
