Apocalyptica Show Report From Washington, DC

When I heard that Apocalyptica, a Finnish band best known for playing Metallica songs on four cellos, was finally planning a full US tour, I was hopeful that they'd come to the DC area. Their show on September 12 at the 9:30 club in Washington, DC was, in fact, the first stop on this tour – the band had actually left Finland earlier that day (their time), I discovered. That Monday happened to be the day I returned from a week of vacation, but I was determined to catch their show and finally see them live after their release of five albums and many years of never touring in the States. I would have loved to have seen them before, but if this show could be considered payback for that wait, it was well worth it. More...

Olympic Recordings Closes Its Doors

Effective immediately, Olympic Recordings, a sub-label of the Century Family Inc. specializing in "extreme" music, will cease to exist. Century Media Records was recently contacted by the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) who notified us that because they own a trademark on the word "Olympic," we would have to stop using it ourselves in order to avoid a legal battle.

A representative on the committee's behalf has informed us that the word "Olympic" is a legally protected trademark that Congress gave the USOC the exclusive right to use. Furthermore, the USOC may file a civil action suit against anyone if they, without consent of the USOC, use the Olympic trademark to induce the sale of any goods or services.

This is not the first time the USOC has contacted a business over this matter. The USOC is said to contact about 50 groups a year on average about the matter. More information can be found here.

At this time, Century Media would like to welcome Aborted, Behemoth, Immolation, Incantation, Swallow The Sun, and Vital Remains to the Century Media roster.

American Head Charge Reschedule Show For Ottoson

According to a posting on AMERICAN HEAD CHARGE's official web site, the band's rescheduled benefit show for the family of former AHC guitarist Bryan Ottoson — who died in April from a prescription drug overdose while the group was on tour with MUDVAYNE — will be held on October 7 at First Ave. in Minneapolis, Minnesota. As previously reported, the band were forced to postpone the originally announced Aug. 27 gig "due to an emergency hand surgery needed for bassist Chad Hanks."

St. Paul Pioneer Press reported last month that a vandal stole $15,000 worth of high-end amps and other gear from AMERICAN HEAD CHARGE's trailer, which was parked outside of their rehearsal space in Minneapolis.
