Prejudice Writing New Material

Belgium’s PREJUDICE have posted the following update at their official website:

"We are in full writing mode as we speak for the upcoming recordings in January '07; so far things are going pretty smoothly. We have some surprises up our sleeves for this one. So far the material is a mixture of the last two records, adding a notch of brutality, groove and diversity. More news to come about who's going to do the layout and mixing duties. Stay tuned!!

Prejudice were looking for a new bassist in July this summer. No announcements have been made confirming a bassist since then, however. Prior to that, Prejudice announced the addition of session drummer Cristophe Piette (SOLIPSIST, MOTHRA) to the group's ranks.

As previously reported, earlier this year Prejudice inked a deal with Greece's Sleaszy Rider Records. The group will enter Excess studio in Rotterdam, Holland next January to begin recording their fourth album, tentatively due in the spring of 2007. Mixing duties will be handled by Tue Madsen at Antfarm in Aarhus, Denmark.

All Shall Perish just finished up almost two months of touring in support of their second effort for Nuclear Blast, The Price Of Existence, and next will embark on another run of dates starting in late October with Arsis and The Faceless the will last through November. Never ones to be shy of a heavy touring schedule, All Shall Perish are enjoying some much deserved time off at home after their long road stint with Suicide Silence and Light This City which hit the entire country.

"The last tour was brutal, and amazing at the same time. We played to a lot of insane crowds and sold lots of merchandise, not to mention visiting a lot of new cities we've never played in," states bassist Michael Tiner. "The new record is doing well and we can't wait to get out on the road again. Our video for the song 'Eradication' debuted on 'Headbangers' Ball' last week too, so it's a cool time."

Steve Harris Is 'Delighted' With Reaction

IRON MAIDEN's new album "A Matter Of Life And Death" has not only been released to enormous critical acclaim across the globe but has also resulted in some of their highest chart placings ever. In addition to their No. 1 chart debut on the Billboard Pan-European chart, the album has now debuted at No. 9 on The Billboard 200 chart and at No. 2 in Canada.

This is the band's first ever U.S. Top 10 entry in their long and illustrious history and a remarkable achievement, this being their 14th studio album. The album is also No. 1 in the U.S. Independent Album chart. It has even crashed in at No. 4 in the official album chart in India which is far and away the highest placing any heavy rock act has ever achieved in that country.

Band founder Steve Harris comments: "We really enjoyed the process of making this record and were delighted with the reaction. It's very gratifying that our fans all over the world seem to agree by supporting us so strongly. We are now very much looking forward to the forthcoming tour and intend to play live as much of the album as we feel works in the set. This tour will be very different to the last one in terms of the songs we play and we will very much enjoy the challenge of playing this new material live."

Manager Rod Smallwood adds: "This is great news for the band, especially — finally — a Top 10 U.S. Billboard entry. During the '80s we had six straight million-plus selling platinum records and all of these would have been at least Top 10 under SoundScan with three or four probably debuting at No. 1. Having said that, though, we are very pleased to finally make it and this, along with great sales all over the world and No. 1 in Europe, really is a testament to MAIDEN's and metal's ever-increasing popularity. We very much look forward to starting our world tour in the States and Canada in early October and if ticket sales are anything to go by it will be quite an event for our fans over there."

MAIDEN's Top 10 U.S. debut comes hot on the heels of the band's No. 1 album in Europe on Billboard's Pan-European chart with nine No. 1 and eighteen Top 5 chart entries in Europe alone. First-week sales in the U.K. were also at their highest since 1990. In just the first week the new album has shipped over a million copies worldwide and impacted on the charts pretty well everywhere in the world.

Next month the band start "A Matter Of Life And Death World Tour" which takes them initially into major arenas through North America, Japan and most of Europe with the majority of the dates already sold out. They will play to over half a million fans over 44 shows in 11 weeks in 18 countries.

Chart breakdown summary to date:

#1: Germany, Sweden, Italy, Finland, Greece, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Croatia, Poland, Brazil
#2: Canada, Switzerland, Norway, Hungary, Columbia
#3: Chile
#4: UK, Austria, Spain, India
#5: France, Ireland, Arabia
#6: Iceland, Belgium
#7: Holland
#8: Denmark
#9: USA
#10: Mexico
#11: Portugal, Japan
#12: Australia
#15: Hong Kong
#16: New Zealand

Black Sabbath Vinyl Being Auctioned On eBay

According to a posting on the Ozzyhead.com web site, eBay seller "sabbotaged" has some very rare BLACK SABBATH vinyl up for grabs:

* An extremely rare, South African 10" acetate featuring "Evil Woman" on both sides. Side B boasts an alternate version of the cover song without Tony Iommi's guitar. "sabbotaged" is asking $699.99 for this item. You can view the auction here.

* A rare 7" Warner Brothers acetate featuring "War Pigs" on both sides. This most likely was a test printing for the next single to be released from "Paranoid". Again, the seller is asking $699.99 for this item as well. You can view that auction here.

Acetate vinyl records are highly collectible. They are aluminum-based discs coated with a special lacquer. The reference acetate is very similar to the master lacquer that is used to manufacture records and is cut on the same lathe. Acetate coating is very soft and is subject to wear far more quickly than a vinyl pressing.

Biomechanical Do 'Painkiller' Cover

U.K. progressive epic thrash metallers BIOMECHANICAL will record a cover version of "Painkiller" by JUDAS PRIEST in October. The track will be produced by Chris Tsangarides, who worked on the 1990 original with PRIEST. The recording will happen over three days at Tsangarides' own studio, the Ecology Rooms, located on the white cliffs of Dover.

In addition to producing the "Painkiller" album, Chris Tsangarides has worked with some of rock and metal's biggest names during his extensive career, including THIN LIZZY, BLACK SABBATH, BRUCE DICKINSON and YNGWIE MALMSTEEN.

BIOMECHANICAL have been playing the song "Painkiller" live as an encore for quite a while, and it's always been a favourite with their growing audiences. The cover will be released on a limited edition re-release of their second album, "The Empires of the Worlds". This hits the shops on November 13.

BIOMECHANICAL mainman Jon K, a self-confessed PRIEST fan, tells of his excitement: "'Painkiller' — where do I start?! JUDAS PRIEST — two words: Fucking AWESOME! One of the most influential bands on the planet that have helped to kick start metal! They've written incredible songs! 'Painkiller' crashed out of my speakers like a steam train and flattened anything in its path!! When the song was first introduced to the scene it blew everything out of the water — it was an instant classic and sure enough withstood the test of time. We're really glad to be able to do homage to the original and I'm still can't believe that we are going to record it with the man who produced the track in the first place!"

The new version of "The Empires of the Worlds" will also include the video for the title track and the making of that video.

You can catch BIOMECHANICAL live at the Damnation Festival on October 15.

As previously reported, BIOMECHANICAL has set "Cannibalised" as the title of its upcoming album, tentatively due April 2007 via Earache Records. The follow-up to 2005's "The Empires of the Worlds" will be recorded at vocalist John K.'s studio beginning in November. The mixing sessions will take place in January.

"The Empires of the Worlds" was originally released in June 2005 via Elitist/Earache Records. The follow-up to 2003's "Eight Moons" (Revolver Records) was recorded by Jon K. and mixed by Andy Sneap (MACHINE HEAD, NEVERMORE, ARCH ENEMY, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE) at Sneap's own Backstage Studios in Derbyshire, U.K.

HATEBREED, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, NAPALM DEATH, FIRST BLOOD and DESPISED ICON have been a joy to tour with, and the HATEBREED gang have been way to cool to all of us. Much respect to all of them! Many more shows to go, and I'll try to give everybody updates more often.

EXODUS is continuing to tour in support of its latest CD, "Shovel Headed Kill Machine", which was released in October 2005 via Nuclear Blast Records. The bizarre press release goes on to cite additonal trends discovered about IT workers in what is clearly a grab for press by the researching company.

Danzig at the Big Top, Luna Park, Sydney Australia

Let me tell you a story. I have a friend - let's call him "Ben" - who had the opportunity to see Danzig live in Hamburg back in '92 or so. Due to an unfortunate fabric rip, Ben was witness to a view throughout the show of the contents of the great man's leather trousers. As an impressionable 16 year old, the damage to poor Ben's psyche was deep: to this day, he cannot listen to, read about or discuss the legendary Glenn Danzig without that particular image surfacing, unbidden, in his mind. He's a little bitter about it.

I am pleased to report to both readers of this site and to Ben that no wardrobe malfunctions tarnished Danzig's Sunday night performance at the Big Top in Luna Park, Sydney, although there were a couple of technical glitches with the microphones and other sound equipment. The three date tour was the legendary singer's first Australian shows in 13 years, and will probably be the last - it has been widely reported that Danzig does not intend to keep a regular touring schedule in the future, choosing instead to focus on his film and comic book projects. The Berzerker Seeks Album Artwork

Australia's THE BERZERKER is offering one lucky fan a chance to design the artwork for its upcoming album.

Due to THE BERZERKER artist Ivan Kenny-Sumiga currently relocating, he will be unable to complete the new album artwork by the deadline. This opens up a very unique opportunity for one individual. Instead of mainman and vocalist Luke Kenny going to the nearest design company, he is giving the fans the chance to show what that can do and perhaps make a name for them selves worldwide.

According to a press release, "The art can be any style 2D or 3D. It just has to capture the brutality and class of the music... The winning artist will have to chance to deal direct with the Luke and to design the album cover, inlay and art layout. The album has a worldwide release and distribution with all the major magazines writing and reviewing the upcoming album.

This is a one-off opportunity for someone to hopefully go on to have a career as an graphic artist.

Please submit all ideas to info@theberzeker.com (try to keep file sizes under 1 MB).
