Avenged Sevenfold Cancel Tour To Record New Album

Huntington Beach, CA quintet Avenged Sevenfold have announced cancellation of tour dates. The band will not be playing scheduled UK fall dates, and have postponed plans for a winter U.S. tour in favor of entering the recording studio.

Avenged Sevenfold hopes fans will not be let down, but rather will look forward to seeing them back on the road with new songs to share. The band have been writing songs for their forthcoming album, and are eager to work on a forthcoming album.

Singer M. Shadows explains the band's decision, "We love our loyal fans and want to continue giving them the freshest, most awesome show and material possible. We've been playing songs from City of Evil around the world for 15 months and now feel it's time to bring them something new. We're honored by the growing audiences wanting to see our show, but feel an obligation to our fans to always give them the best we have to offer. We've started writing and can't wait for our fans to hear what we're working on."

Avenged Sevenfold have spent the last year touring non-stop behind City of Evil, which also spawned the adrenalized hits "Bat Country" and "Beast and the Harlot." They completed a spring U.S. arena tour and several European dates with personal heroes Guns N' Roses and Metallica. M. Shadows currently graces the cover of Revolver Magazine alongside James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich of Metallica. The band most recently finished up a run as a mainstage headliner on Ozzfest.

Metal Blade Records has officially inked a worldwide deal with the brutal North Shore/Boston Massachusetts hardcore band SINCE THE FLOOD. SINCE THE FLOOD's debut release, "No Compromise", will mark the band's follow-up to the underground hit "Valor and Vengeance" which came out through Iron Clad Recordings (UNEARTH frontman Trevor Phipps' label) in February 2005. "No Compromise", recorded at Outpost Studios in Stoughton, MA with Jim Siegal (BLOOD FOR BLOOD, CAVE IN, and the DROPKICK MURPHYS), shows the band heading in a more focused and intense direction with the end results being a far more concentrated hardcore record than anything they have done in the past. "There's no doubt in our mind that both old fans, and new, will be very surprised and pleased with the direction we've gone musically since 'Valor and Vengeance'," states the band. More...

KSE Prefer Piñata Man To Ninjas For "Curse" Video

In recent weeks, the members of New England metal quintet Killswitch Engage have been thumbing through dozens of video treatments for "My Curse," the first single from their forthcoming As Daylight Dies. The band is scheduled to shoot the clip next month, before its headlining tour. But so far, all the treatments have been real stinkers.

"They've all got that paragraph that says, 'We will then pan to the band who'll be rocking out so hard it will be destroying the camera,' " guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz said. "There's one that involves ninjas and martial arts. There's a circus-themed one, where this ugly crazy dude who's part of a traveling freak show takes his normal girlfriend to the rest of the freaks, and they disapprove of her. It's really bizarre stuff that doesn't make any sense at all."

Even the one Dutkiewicz refers to as "Piñata Man" doesn't seem to fit with "My Curse," but of all the video pitches they've perused, "it's the only one that's awesome. It involves this dude who's just a piñata and people are trying to steal his candy. I'm feeling 'Piñata Man' the most, for sure." More...

Bob Rock Feels "20 Years Younger" After Metallica

According to an article at Reuters, producer Bob Rock says he feels "20 years younger" after his split with Metallica, whose albums he had produced since 1991.

The Canadian producer parted company with the metal titan earlier this year and is now devoting his energies to other artists and a return to his own recording career.

According to the 52-year-old Rock, "My life is now about my wife and kids, and recording other bands."

Rock first teamed with Metallica for its self-titled 1991 album (aka The Black Album). The Elektra set debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and stayed on the chart for 281 weeks. Rock helmed Metallica's subsequent albums, through 2003's St Anger.

A behind-the-scenes look at that tumultuous project was featured in the following year's unflinching documentary Metallica: Some Kind of Monster. A petition that some 1500 fans signed subsequently was posted online calling for Metallica to dump Rock, claiming he had too much influence on the band's sound.

"The criticism was hurtful for my kids, who read it and don't understand the circumstances," Rock says. "Sometimes, even with a great coach, a team keeps losing. You have to get new blood in there."

But Metallica co-manager Peter Mensch argues that Rock "nursed Metallica out of almost complete collapse on that record. Bob is one of the five best producers on the planet. But it was time to shake things up."

Rick Rubin is producing the next Metallica album.

Rock made his international reputation in the '80s while he was an engineer at Vancouver's Little Mountain Sound, working with producer Bruce Fairbairn on multiplatinum albums for Loverboy, Bon Jovi and Aerosmith.
