Mors Principium Est Set Title Of New Album

Finnish melodic death/thrash metallers MORS PRINCIPIUM EST have set "Liberation = Termination" as the title of their third album, tentatively due in early 2007 via Listenable Records.

"Here we are, in Astia Studio [in Finland]," stated vocalist Ville Viljanen. "We have been here for over a week now and we finished the vocal recordings yesterday. Everything else had been done before that, so now the only thing we have left is the finishing mix. Probably tomorrow (August 30), we will have the first song completely ready. We cannot wait to hear how it will sound. We know it will sound good, but nobody knows how good.

"The time here in studio has gone fast and it's been a lot of fun. Our recording dude Anssi Kippo is a really great guy! On our 'free' time we have been watching the Discovery channel and 'tasted' some beer."

The mastering of the new MORS PRINCIPIUM EST album will take place later this month at Helsinki's Finnvox studios.

MORS PRINCIPIUM EST's debut album, "Inhumanity", was reissued through Listenable, with completely new artwork and with three bonus songs, in February. The band's most recent CD, "The Unborn" was recorded at Tico Tico Studio (SONATA ARCTICA, SENTENCED, FOR MY PAIN…, ALTARIA) in Kemi, Finland. The album cover was designed by Mattias Norèn.

No Satanic Bible At Nödtveidt Suicide Scene

DISSECTION guitarist Set Teitan (ex-ABORYM, BLOODLINE) has dismissed media reports that the group's frontman, Jon Nödtveidt, placed an open copy of "The Satanic Bible" in front of him before killing himself last week at his apartment in Hasselby, a suburb of Stockholm.

According to the Swedish newspaper Expressen, Nödtveidt, 31, was found dead on Wednesday, August 16 after he allegedly surrounded himself by lit candles and shot himself in the head. Shortly before the ritual suicide, he sent farewell letters to his father and his girlfriend and explained to a friend, "I'm going away for a long, long time. I'm going to Transylvania."

At 7:21 p.m. CET on August 16, a police patrol reported to the police communication center in Stockholm that a man had been found dead, the apparent victim of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. According to several of Expressen's sources, the singer placed an open copy of "The Satanic Bible" in front of him before pulling the trigger.

"He shot himself in the head and lay dead in a ring of lit candles," a police source told Expressen.

In a message posted in an invite-only black metal online forum, DISSECTION guitarist Set Teitan reportedly wrote: "This also [has] to be cleared up before it becomes another rumor, as [journalists], of course, invent things in their ignorance: It's not any atheist, humanist and ego-worshipping 'Satanic Bible' by Anton LaVey that Jon had in front of him, but a Satanic Grimoire. He despised LaVey and 'Church of Satan'."

Reunited Solstice Begins Work On New Material

South Florida death thrashers SOLSTICE have reunited and are working on new material. The lineup is the same one from the second album, "Pray" (1995), which is as follows:

Alex Marquez (ex-MALEVOLENT CREATION, DEMOLITION HAMMER, DISINCARNATE) - Drums
Dennis Munoz - guitar
Garret Scott - bass
Christian Rudes - guitar, vocals

According to the band, SOLSTICE's current musical style is "more like the [self-titled debut from 1992] as opposed to 'Pray'. We originally wanted Rob Barrett [guitar] to do it but we know he is extremely busy with CANNIBAL CORPSE, so we didn't even ask. After a couple of months of digging around, we were able to find Rudes and he was into it so we went that way. He's an amazing player and his voice is super brutal now. We heard some songs he wrote, and wow, it was killer!"

Witchkiller Guitarist Talks About Classic EP

Dragonight.de has published the first-ever online interview with a member of the classic Canadian heavy metal legend WITCHKILLER. Guitarist Kurt Phillips answered questions about the band's deal with Metal Blade Records, recording the legendary "Day of the Saxons" EP and band's history, most of which was a mystery to fans. An excerpt from the question-and-answer session follows:

Dragonight.de: What were you guys doing after the band split up? Are you still in touch with other band members?

Kurt: I know only a little bit, but will share with you what I know. I am still friends with Todd Pilon. In fact, in May of this year (2006) I visited him in Ottawa and we caught up, although we have been in correspondence throughout the years. He still plays, though not so much as he has a great son and a demanding job. As for Steve [Batky, drums] and Doug [Adams, vocals], there was a great estrangement between us three, and that saddens me. I know that when you are young and hot-headed, and not so good at conflict resolution, words can be said and deeds done that are very improper and hurtful. I, myself, have been guilty of that. I have tried to contact Doug Adams in Toronto, with no results. He is the president of a world-renowned company that does pyro for mega bands (METALLICA, KISS, BRITNEY SPEARS, SHANIA TWAIN, etc.) and has done so well for himself. A record label also released a limited-to-500 edition of the original ACEIUM record. Steve Batky moved to L.A., changed his last name to Napoleon, and had moderate success with a band called I, NAPOLEON. He is running a leather goods company somewhere down there and also is doing well. Earlier this year, Todd and I left a message with Steve's father to contact us but again, no result.

Dragonight.de: I know you started the WARHAG band... Can we say it's kind of WITCHKILLER's continuation?

Kurt: Well, I never lost my love for N.W.O.B.H.M./ European-style which was the foundation of WITCHKILLER's starting point. So, yes, it is a continuation of what I would have brought to any new WITCHKILLER songs. WARHAG is a continuation of that, plus it lends itself a bit of theatrics and epic story-telling. As I have become a better player and more mature, there are SLIGHT elements of prog, or unusual stuff for a bit of flavour. I am interested in pushing the boundaries but not so much that it becomes something too different. I also write music that I want to hear and hopefully the fans want to hear that, too. Basically, I have always enjoyed the metal I listen to as a mini-orchestra, and so it needs to contain certain elements, including but not limited to, composition, technical excellence, strong singer and well-produced. These are very selective element. What I like, maybe my friend Mike Kischnik (EMPYRIA, THOR) and his wife, Tracy, both metal fans, maybe doesn't.

Dragonight.de: You re-recorded the WITCHKILLER cult song "Day of the Saxons", here as the "Saxons' Return"... I would say it was like a gift to your old fans...?

Kurt: Yes, it would be a gift for the old fans, and a calling card to new fans. I thought if people recognize the song, and we really have a blast playing the song, [so] why not?? Some people have enjoyed the small bits we did to it, some not. But really, I want them to hear what we are doing now, so if that helps attract them, then I'm in.

Former In Battle Drummer Took His Own Life

Sundsvall, Sweden-based death metallers IN BATTLE have issued the following statement regarding their former drummer who reportedly had passed away in August:

"IN BATTLE wants to announce that their longtime friend and drummer Otto Wiklund, born October 18, 1976 and died August 13, 2006, has passed away by his own hand...

"Otto Wiklund was a great drummer and did record the debut album of IN BATTLE (1997) and the second album, 'Rage of the Northmen' (1998). He also was the session drummer for SETHERIAL in 1998 and recorded the 'Lords of the Nightrealm' album.

"Otto Wiklund's memory will be honored on the upcoming [fourth] IN BATTLE album, 'Kingdom of Fear', which will be released through Nocturnal Art Productions/Candlelight Records in mid-November this year? with material that Otto Wiklund wrote for IN BATTLE.

"I ofred vi drar fram!! I OTTO's Namn!"

IN BATTLE's latest album, "Welcome to the Battlefield" (2004, Cold/Metal Blade Records), was recorded at Courthouse Studio in ?stersund, Sweden and at Necromorbus Studio in Stockholm, Sweden. The CD was mixed and mastered at Erik Rutan's (HATE ETERNAL/ex-MORBID ANGEL guitarist) Mana Recording Studios in Tampa, Florida with engineer Shawn Ohtani. Rutan also laid down a guest appearance on lead guitar in the track "Serpents."

Kevin Kinkade Pays Tribute To His Influences

COUNCIL OF THE FALLEN drummer Dave Kinkade (ex-DIVINE EMPIRE, MALEVOLENT CREATION) sent the following message to Blabbermouth.net:

"I'm currently in Holland with my wife and just this evening, had the honor of seeing MORBID ANGEL on tour in Tilburg.

"I just want to say that I'm sick of this bullshit where drummers and death metal musicians in general sit here online talking shit and more shit about each other and other bands BUT really don't EVER pay fucking tribute to the guys who got them into this to begin with.

"I just introduced my wife to my longtime friend Pete Sandoval (MORBID ANGEL) and Nick Barker [CRADLE OF FILTH, DIMMU BORGIR, BRUJERIA, BENEDICTION], who have always been huge idols of mine. We watched Pete from behind all night murder the drums and it was fucking FLAWLESS. He not only played perfect, BUT played the set faster, tighter and sicker than ever before.

"I've been a fan of extreme death metal for years, even before I started playing it for a living, and I have to fucking say, I've seen everyone in the business play, but NO ONE gets me going more than watching Pete and MORBID EVERY FUCKING TIME. Erik Rutan (HATE ETERNAL) made his comeback after a few years with MORBID and completely fucking demolished. Headspin fucking galore from the first to the last song. I LOVE THIS FUCKING BAND.

"Metal drummers... Learn where your roots come from if you have the balls to play death metal. Forget this two-foot blast shit... if it was not for Pete and members of the old school, you would never be playing this shit. Hail the true... fuck the fake... Know your roots."

Interview

Interview With Jeff Thomas Of Deliver Us From Evil

The great white metal hope out of the safe and friendly mid-west confines of Evansville, Indiana, better known to their diehard underground fan base as DELIVER US FROM EVIL, have not relented one nano-second in their all-out pursuit for heavy metal glory. They have been simply destroying each stage, even going as far to make sure that each new show they perform is a bit more destructive than the last. The impressive metal unit seems to run on mutant-type powers, in the mind's eye of this music critic. I have yet to see one other unsigned metal act, throughout the entire world this year, that can bring such a radical technical explosion and completely original approach to their songwriting. I recently was able to get some questions in with their bassist, Jeff Thomas. More...

Ex-Genetic Wisdom Members Launch Why She Kills

The sensational new Dutch metal machine featuring two female vocalists and 4 ex-Genetic Wisdom members, WHY SHE KILLS have recorded their first EP, expected to be released on September 7th 2006.

WHY SHE KILLS came to life in March 2006. The Dutch six piece featuring Ronny Scholten (ex Sacrosanct drums), Peter Slootbeek (lead guitars), Ralph Roelvink (guitars, also Callenish Circle touring bass player) and Gerrit Knol (ex Sacrosanct)–all ex Genetic Wisdom –and eye catchers (the blonde) Janneke van Berkel (vocals/growls) and Imke Kuipers (vocals) are fully armed and ready to deliver some fury.

The press release reads: "The introduction of Janneke and Imke means a very fresh, unique and new approach of the aggressive and melodic 'newcore' this outfit brings to your ears. Battling over vocal ground these two 'bitches in disguise' will bring it all; the grunts, the screams, melodic clean vocals and sisterly harmonics. The experienced musicians delivering the music are widely influenced coming from classic Bay Area thrash all the way to modern metalcore and melodic death metal. Yes, it's cooking with lots of different spices in the WHY SHE KILLS kitchen! Their one and only motto however is; brutality and melody'."

WHY SHE KILLS has worked hard the past weeks. Together with producer Arno Krabman (Wackmobil, Lange Frans baas B) and Nienke de Jong (Autumn) the band recorded their "Of Hope and Suffocation" EP at the Graveland Studio. "Of Hope and Suffocation" is currently available for FREE download now at the band's myspace page.

The "Of Hope and Suffocation" tracklisting comprises:

1. Demise of Your Crown
2. A Lover's Poetry
3. Of Hope and Suffocation
4. Spasm of Violence [to be continued….]

WHY SHE KILLS continues talking to labels that already showed interest and the first string of live dates will be announced shortly. The band hopes to release their debut full length in the second half of 2007.
