Nahemah Signs To Lifeforce Records

Lifeforce Records has officially announced the recent worldwide signing of Spain's Nahemah. The group's debut Lifeforce full-length, "The Second Philosophy," consists of ten tracks and will hit streets in early-2007. Commented Lifeforce president/CEO Stefan Luedicke on the signing:

"I'm very happy to welcome with Nahemah one of the most talented young bands to Lifeforce Records' growing roster. Nahemah's upcoming Lifeforce Records debut 'The Second Philosophy' represents perfectly a new road Lifeforce Records have already been taken in creating a new sound of heavy music with its latest and will follow with its upcoming releases."

Meanwhile, the band had the following to say:

"Signing with Lifeforce fills us with joy. We think it is a giant leap for us as musicians because it is not usual to see a Spanish band outside the Spanish music scene getting signed to an international record label. Lifeforce will allow us to obtain our first target since we started to play music years ago, this target was and is our music to be listened worldwide. We also think Lifeforce and Nahemah will make a good partnership and a great tandem because we both want to work hard on our music and on a project we totally believe in."

Bloodsimple Guitarist Reflects On 9/11, War

BLOODSIMPLE guitarist Mike Kennedy (ex-VISION OF DISORDER) has issued the following update:

"Well, another September 11th here and gone. The city was ominous yesterday amidst all the memorials and two giant light beams shooting up from where the World Trade Center used to be.

"The world is facing chaos, the Middle East is tumultuous and running out of Earth's blood, and my brother has joined the national guard and will probably at some point be shipped off to some warzone for a year. Other than that, things are great. Frustration and discontent, as we all know, make for good music and we are pouring all of it into this record.

"Throughout all the war, media propaganda, world drama and trauma, and Brads and Angelinas of the Earth.... We must remember the simple things. And to both sides... 'Terror's weapon is fear and victory may be as simple as living our lives without it.'"

BLOODSIMPLE, which features in its ranks former members of VISION OF DISORDER and MEDICATION, is currently in pre-production for its second album at Machine Shop studio in Hoboken, New Jersey with producer Machine. A 2007 release is expected.

BLOODSIMPLE's debut album, "A Cruel World", was released in March 2005 on MUDVAYNE singer Chad Gray's Bullygoat label imprint (via Warner Bros.). The CD was recorded in Vancouver B.C. with producer Garth Richardson, who has previously worked with RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, MUDVAYNE, SLIPKNOT and CHEVELLE. The album was mixed by Mike Fraser (HATEBREED).

Ex-TNT Singer Slams Former Bandmates

Former TNT frontman Tony Harnell has issued the following update:

"This email applies mostly to Norwegian fans who I love with all my heart and soul, as of course I do ALL my fans around the world.

"In reference to the lyrics my former band [TNT] has allowed a rapper to add to our classic song '10,000 Lovers (In One)', I decided to post the lyrics here so you can decide what you think of them.

"My questions are as follows:

"What does taking sexual advantage of a young girl who grew up with no father, who has had struggles in her life, who apparently sells her body and who in the end resorts to doing cocaine (mutha fuckin' powder), if all else fails, have to do with '10,000 Lovers in One'? If anyone out there can enlighten me, please do.

"Further, the saddest thing of all with this is that my former band would allow these lyrics to degrade a song that is so dear to our fans. This song that was written for someone I cared about when I was very young and this is what it has come down to?

"I am posting these lyrics in response to a recent TV show where two band members are appearing to laugh when reading a statement from my management that expresses our issues with the lyrics. This statement was supposed to be read as the band's statement and not my management's statement. They offered to read it as a sort of settlement and to avoid a lawsuit over the song based on European Driot Morale laws and formal agreements made between the band and myself — for more details, read my blog 'Art Degraded, Imagination Denied'.

"I don't think any of the fans have read or seen the lyrics and I think you all should so maybe you can understand my views. If there is a positive interpretation that I am missing, please enlighten me.

"As I have said before, I wish my former bandmates all the best for the future and will always hold a special place for them in my memories. My time with the band obviously played a huge role in my life and career and there is no way I could ever disclaim that. I truly care about the fans with all my heart. It is why I work so hard to be as good as I can be and why I get upset whenever I feel I have let the fans down. I live to bring my best to people who want to hear me and will always strive for that for the rest of this lifetime.

"As was stated, any royalties I receive from this song will go to a treatment center for young girls to be determined soon.

"Here are the lyrics, judge for yourself."

Richardson explains, "HOSTILITY simply has great songs. They're quite intense, and each band member is a really good musician." So, how would Richardson describe HOSTILITY in three words? "Monstrous. Heavy. Brutal. Beer drinkers…that's five…"

He continues, "HOSTILITY is special because when you meet the guys, they've just got a self belief in their abilities…a quiet confidence that will reap rewards. They are in it for the long haul."

Dragonforce Doesn't Want To Be Pigeonholed

Stuart Derdeyn of Canada's The Province reports that U.K. quintet DRAGONFORCE's "Valley Of the Damned" is another tour de force of super-tight, melodic hard rock with its tongue firmly planted in its cheek. Imagine BON JOVI fronting IRON MAIDEN played almost twice as fast and you've got what the group has dubbed "extreme power metal."

"Actually, we kind of try not to say that much anymore, because we don't want people to get the wrong vibe that we're into that whole old-style power-metal style," says guitarist Sam Totman. "For us, there are so many other things involved in our sound that we didn't want to get stuck into that category.

"I mean, it hasn't hurt either because all the shows are selling out."

Epic and bombastic, with operatic vocals a la classic JUDAS PRIEST or 'MAIDEN, power metal came to prominence in the eighties with European acts such as HELLOWEEN or EUROPE. Detractors have dubbed the highly melodic and fluid form "happy metal" for its lack of angry Cookie Monster vocals and angst-ridden riffage.

There certainly are elements of DRAGONFORCE's fast, stadium-ready tunes that will put a smile on your face. But you're likely to be air-guitaring along to Totman and Hong Kong-born guitarist Herman Li's lightning runs too.

"We've basically just put everything we listen to together into it. SLAYER is one of our favorite bands, so we've gone there and into thrash and death metal to keep the speed and aggression. But there is also the melodic hard rock of bands like BON JOVI that we wanted to keep in there, too."

Patton Says No New Fantomas Album Until 2008

In a recent interview with U.K. magazine Rock-A-Rolla (web site), former FAITH NORE MORE frontman Mike Patton said that a fifth release by star-studded noise-mongers FANTOMAS — which also features MELVINS guitarist Buzz Osborne, MR. BUNGLE bassist Trevor Dunn, and SLAYER drummer Dave Lombardo — would probably not see the light of day for a couple of years. "I'm gonna take a little break from FANTOMAS and do some other things," he stated and added that the record will be "all electronic" and will contain "no acoustic instrumentation." In the same article, Patton revealed that the next TOMAHAWK and PEEPING TOM records would likely be released in 2007.

Speaking to Greg Prato of Billboard.com in May 2006, Patton revealed that the first all-new studio effort from TOMAHAWK since 2003's "Mit Gas" was coming along "slowly but nicely — and I'm completely to blame for the slowly part. [Guitarist] Duane [Denison] has had stuff written for it seems like eons now, and I'm just been very backed up. It's getting closer and closer to my main focus now. So I expect once I can zero in on it, we'll be able to bang it out and hopefully record it before the end of the year."

Judas Priest Issue Album Update

JUDAS PRIEST Management Co-Ordinator Jayne Andrews has posted the following message on the band's official web site:

"As usual when the band are working on a new album, the website will be very quiet. The guys do not want any information being given out at this time. As soon as they are ready to announce anything, I will do so for them!! They are taking a very short break just now but will continue working on the album next week. It is going incredibly well!! So please, be patient and as I always say... it will be worth waiting for!!!"

In a June 2006 interview with MTV.com, JUDAS PRIEST frontman Rob Halford said about the group's upcoming concept album about the legendary 16th-century French prophet Nostradamus, "Nostradamus is all about metal, isn't he? He was an alchemist as well as a seer — a person of extraordinary talent. He had an amazing life that was full of trial and tribulation and joy and sorrow. He's a very human character and a world-famous individual. You can take his name and translate it into any language and everybody knows about him, and that's important because we're dealing with a worldwide audience."

In addition to digging new lyrical ground for JUDAS PRIEST, the album will contain musical elements that might surprise their fans. "It's going to have a lot of depth," the singer explained. "There'll be a lot of symphonic elements. We might orchestrate it, without it being overblown. There may be a massive choir at parts and keyboards will be featured more prominently, whereas they've always been in the background before."

Mastodon To Appear In Aqua Teen Hunger Force

Mtv.com reports that MASTODON will actually be junk food in a matter of months (dramatically speaking, anyway). In February, the band will make its big-screen debut alongside the Cartoon Network's Meatwad, Frylock and Master Shake in "Aqua Teen Hunger Force: The Movie".

"I get this random call from an Atlanta phone number, and I answer and it's Dave Willis," drummer Bränn Dailor said, referring to the man who voices Meatwad and wrote and directed the film with Matt Maiellaro. "I was freaked out because that's one of my favorite shows of all time. We totally geek out on that stuff, and I've bought the DVDs for the guys in TOOL and THE MARS VOLTA as gifts."

MASTODON wrote and recorded a track for the movie, but they weren't responsible for its lyrics — those were provided by Willis and include the line, "Leave your babies outside/ We'll run over them after the show."

"It's the opening song, and we're going to be animated as movie snacks," in the style of the animated musical advertisements that played before the beginning of the main attraction decades ago, Dailor said. "It's the 'Let's all go to the lobby' song, but it's a thrash song."

Australian Rapist Who Thought He Was Ozzy Jailed

The Australian man who drugged and sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl because he believed he was rock star Ozzy Osbourne and had to follow in his footsteps has been sentenced to a maximum 10 years in jail, according to News.com.au.

Arthur Fairwell faced the NSW District Court today (Friday, September 8) over the attack at Bradbury, in Sydney's south-west, in May 2004.

The 39-year-old had pleaded guilty to six offenses, including aggravated sexual intercourse without consent and two counts of administering a stupefying drug.

During sentencing submissions for Fairwell last week, the court was told he was under the delusional belief he was Ozzy Osbourne, the heavy metal rocker turned reality TV star.

When Fairwell learned of an allegation that Osbourne had sex with a 13-year-old girl, his obsessive beliefs compelled him to think he had to follow suit, Judge Murrell heard.

The judge today (Sept. 8) said Fairwell had a long history of treatment for mental illness, and accepted psychiatric evidence that he suffered from a chronic paranoid schizophrenic disorder.

However, there was no evidence to suggest he was delusional or psychotic at the time of the offences, she said.
