Shrum Feat. Late Acid Bath Bassist Music Online
SHRUM, the long-defunct side-project of late ACID BATH bassist Audie Pitre and drum programmer/keyboardist/vocalist Tomas Viator (DISINCARNATE, SUFFER), had four songs from their "Red Devils and Purple Ringers" CD posted online at this MySpace tribute page.
Described as "a psychadelic, death metal mix of chaos," SHRUM used two bass players (with former JACKNIFE bassist Joseph J. Fontenot on second bass) and no guitarists.
After two well-received albums, ACID BATH's career came to an abrupt and tragic close in 1997 when Audie Pitre and his parents were killed in a drunk-driving accident (the other driver was at fault), according to Wikipedia. This effectively brought ACID BATH to an end, with the other members finding themselves unable to carry on in the same spirit. While rumors of another album circulated after the band's end, nothing new surfaced.
Dax Riggs (vocals) and Mike Sanchez (guitar), however, did go on to perform in AGENTS OF OBLIVION, releasing one self-titled album until that also ended. Dax formed and is currently in DEADBOY & THE ELEPHANTMEN. Sammy Duet (guitar) was once a member of CROWBAR, but has since left the band. He is now a member of black metal bands GOATWHORE and RITUAL KILLER and his doom metal band with Kelly Pitre (the brother of Audie) VUAL.
The Agony Scene Signs With Abacus Recordings
Apparently no longer under contract with Roadrunner Records, The Agony Scene has now joined the Abacus Recordings roster and is currently writing songs for a new album. The group expects to enter the studio this fall and the effort should hit streets in spring 2007.

Italian doom metallers THUNDERSTORM have set "As We Die Alone" as the title of their fourth album, tentatively due late 2006/early 2007 via Dragonheart Records. The follow-up to 2004's "Faithless Soul" was recorded at New Sin Studio in Loria (Italy) and will include a cover version of the JIMI HENDRIX classic "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)". THUNDERSTORM's version of the song is described by the band as "ultra-heavy but respectful of the original feeling."
THUNDERSTORM previously stated about the new CD, "Most of this album sounds different from others our works: It's doom-metal-oriented, of course, but most songs have a different style from previous CDs. This album will be the best THUNDERSTORM work ever, that's for sure!"
Symphorce Announce New Album Title and Drummer

The cover artwork was designed by Travis Smith (ICED EARTH, NEVERMORE).
Kamelot Reveal Live DVD/CD Details
KAMELOT's first-ever DVD, entitled "One Cold Winter's Night", will be released via Steamhammer/SPV on October 30.
"One Cold Winter's Night" was recorded on February 11, 2006 at the historic Rockefeller Musichall in Oslo, Norway. KAMELOT enlisted renowned film and video director Patric Ullaeus (DIMMU BORGIR, LACUNA COIL, IN FLAMES) to chronicle the night's events. Bringing with him from Gothenberg, Sweden, Patric had a large crew of professionals and equipment, including 18 cameras, that would be used in and around the concert grounds.
The title for the band's first DVD to date (based on an earlier KAMELOT song title) was chosen long before the actual shoot. Ironically this winter turned out to be one of the longest and coldest in the country's history, with enormous amounts of snow and numerous chaos-causing blizzards. More...

This Week In Metal - August 31st, 2006 *Late*
Im aware of the fact that its a little late, and pushed closely together with TWIM for 9-8-06 but nonetheless I would hate to see you guys miss out on a week of news. So without further ado the records chart courtesy of CMJ :
Rank | L/W | Band | Album | Weeks | Peak |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | 3 | Hatebreed | Supremecy | 2 | 1 |
2 | 2 | Slayer | Christ Illusion | 3 | 2 |
3 | 1 | SYL | The New Black | 4 | 1 |
4 | 4 | All That Remains | The Fall of Ideals | 4 | 2 |
5 | 6 | The Human Abstract | Nocturne | 3 | 5 |
6 | - | Bury Your Dead | Beauty & The Breakdown | 2 | 6 |
7 | * | Gwar | Beyond Hell | 1 | 7 |
8 | 5 | Unearth | III: The Eyes Of Fire | 3 | 5 |
9 | 4 | Voivod | Katorz | 3 | 6 |
10 | 7 | Shadows Fall | Fallout From The War | 4 | 1 |
Hatebreed becomes our third #1 ever, beyond Shadows Fall and SYL. It is amazing for them as a band to completly jump Slayer. All That Remains maybe just hitting stride in their young career, the success of this album and the sales and touring they are doing are pushing them over the top of their genre. Bury Your Dead returns to the chart with strong sales following a bouncey chart release. And the boys from Shadows Fall look like their run of 4 weeks in the chart might end as they slip to the #10 slot.
Onto the singles, courtesy of MusicMatch:
Rank | L/W | Band | Song | Weeks | Peak |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | 5 | Stone Sour | 30-30/150 | 4 | 1 |
2 | 1 | Unearth | The Glorious Nightmare | 3 | 1 |
3 | 8 | SYL | You Suck | 3 | 3 |
4 | 3 | The Human Abstract | Crossing the Rubicon | 2 | 2 |
5 | 4 | Mastodon | The Wolf Is Loose | 2 | 4 |
6 | 9 | Shadows Fall | Will To Rebuild | 4 | 1 |
7 | - | BTBAM | Malpractice | 1 | 7 |
8 | 6 | Lamb of God | Redneck | 4 | 2 |
9 | 7 | All That Remains | This Calling | 2 | 7 |
10 | 10 | Slayer | Cult | 3 | 1 |
Not much change to the charts other then that of Stone Sour resurging to the #1 slot after never reaching it within the first four weeks. Between The Buried and Me makes a debut with Malpractice and the bottom of the chart holds strong with Slayer staying in the #10 slot. All four #1's in the charts 4 weeks remain, including the only 2 songs to be on all 4 weeks.
Ava Inferi To Enter Studio In January
Portugese metallers AVA INFERI are currently working on their new album, "The Silhouette", tentatively due next year via Season of Mist.
"Eight months have gone by since our debut, 'Burdens', was released," the band writes in a press release. "We would like to take the opportunity to thank all of you who bought the album; we really appreciate your support!
"Being a debut band is always difficult. And considering the present 'overcrowded' music scene, it takes a lot of will, talent and energy to really get somewhere these days. We are fit to continue the fight!
"With this said, we inform you that we are already in the writing process of our second album for Season of Mist, namely 'The Silhouette'. We enter the studio in January next year (2007), if everything goes according plan. Some keywords: shorter songs, more vocally focused, wickedness and melancholia, and not to forget our share of heaviness and diversity."

Dark Funeral Fighting 'Corrupt Record Labels'
Swedish black metallers DARK FUNERAL announced the formation of a new "movement" called "Musicians Against Corrupt Record Labels". According to a posting on the group's MySpace page, "The main point with the movement is to enlighten and warn artists and music fans about certain corrupt record labels within the scene . . . The time has come to cleanse OUR scene from these rotten imbeciles! Let them feel our infernal wrath..."

DARK FUNERAL's latest album, "Attera Totus Sanctus", was recorded and mixed by Daniel Bergstrand (MESHUGGAH, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, IN FLAMES, BEHEMOTH) and Örjan Örnkloo (MISERY LOVES CO.) at Dug-Out studios in Uppsala, Sweden. Mastering duties were handled by Tomas Eberger at the Cutting Room in Stockholm, Sweden. The album features a guest appearance by former MESHUGGAH bassist Gustaf Hielm.

Virgin Steele's Gilchriest Slams 'Fake' Drummers
UPDATE: Frank Gilchriest has issued a statement about some of his comments here.
The official VIRGIN STEELE web site has been updated with a new interview with frontman David DeFeis and drummer Frank Gilchriest. An excerpt from the chat follows:
Q: What are your favourite moments on [the new VIRGIN STEELE album, "Visions of Eden"]? Favorite tracks? Are you satisfied with the way the album turned out? Are you pleased with your performances?
Frank: "People should buy the CD because it is different from what is currently available in the genre. It is truly an original work of music and has an interesting story that relates to all the madness in the world today.
"My favorite moment on the CD is 'God above God'. Musically and lyrically that song brings a tear to my eye every time I hear it!
"I wish to clear up any confusion about the drumming on 'Visions of Eden'. First of all, that is me playing on every song. There was no programmed drum parts used whatsoever!!
"I am very happy with my performance on 'Visions..'. However, the drum sound is a different matter. This was the first time we used a digital drum kit and I'm not entirely satisfied with the outcome. Unfortunately, they sound so perfect that people are accusing me of not actually playing the parts. Some people think Dave programmed the drums on a computer. That is very distressful to me. I worked hard to get my endurance and speed up to the task of recording those parts. I can hear my own style of attack on the drums and, my particular way of phrasing things but at the same time I understand what some fans are saying. There is a machine-like quality to due to the use of a digital drum kit instead of a real wooden one. I can't wait to satisfy the doubters when in concert I'll be ripping up those songs out on a real wooden drum kit. More...

The East Coast has been supporting our music since the very first album came out in 1985. We are looking forward to hitting all of the cities and playing for the headbangers!! We did one-offs back East over the past two years to test the waters and all of the shows over there were very successful."
On August 26, HIRAX co-headlined the Minneapolis Mayhem III Festival, where they played a new song, titled "Lucifer's Inferno", which will be on their forthcoming record, "Assassins of War", to be released on Black Devil Records in early 2007. Cazares Unveils New Project At Hollywood Show
Former FEAR FACTORY/current ASESINO guitarist Dino Cazares unveiled his new, as-yet-unnamed project Saturday night (September 2) at the Whisky A Go Go in Hollywood, California prior to ASESINO's performance as part of Dino's birthday bash. According to one attendee, the band's musical direction "was reminiscent of old FEAR FACTORY — 'Soul of a New Machine' [1992] meets 'Demanufacture [1995] — but faster, heavier and more intense. After [the new group's] three-song set, Dino screamed from the stage, 'This ain't no pussy shit like new FEAR FACTORY is.' The over-packed crowd cheered as he marched off stage, only to return 10 minutes later to do a full set with ASESINO."
Dino Cazares' new band consists of the following musicians:
Dino Cazares (ASESINO, ex-FEAR FACTORY, BRUJERIA) - Guitar
Tommy Vext (VEXT) - Lead Vocals
Tim Yeung (ex-VITAL REMAINS, NILE) - Drums
Risha Eryavec (DECREPIT BIRTH) - Bass
The band is currently writing material for its debut album, which should see the light of day in 2007 through an as-yet-undetermined label.
MSI Want Your Help Creating A Song (Part Two)
As previously reported, Mindless Self Indulgence have come up with yet another crazy scheme; a 'choose-your-own-adventure' song. They want the general public (that means you) to help them write a new song with them. How it works is, every week, MSI will ask one question. You can then vote on your most preferred answer. At the end of the week, the answer with the most votes becomes part of the song. Thus, once the song is finished, the band will be able to shift blame squarely on your collective laps. The polls on which you can vote will be posted in the blogs section of MSI's MySpace page.
The votes for the first poll, which asked whether the song should be an original or a cover song, are in, with a considerably favourable result for an original. The second poll is now up, and the band want to know with what instrument the song should start. You can vote for Guitar, Bass, Synthesiser or Random Samples.
