Shadows Fall Enters The Studio

Shadows Fall entered the studio in late-August to begin pre-production for their new album, and Atlantic Records debut. Here's an update from drummer Jason Bittner:

"Well everyone, as of 2 weeks ago we started pre-production for our new album with our producer Nick Raskulinecz. He flew out from LA on a Monday evening, and by Tuesday afternoon we were in our rehearsal room slowly dissecting all of the material that we currently have written for our Atlantic debut.

First off, I think everyone was impressed...Nick was pretty stoked with our material and ambitions, and the band was extremely excited and impressed by Nick's ideas, let alone his never-ending enthusiasm! We put a solid 6 hours in the 1st day just jamming and revamping. Later on that night brought a well-deserved evening at the bar discussing what we would do once we got in the studio.

Day 2 brought the seeds for 2 more new songs, as well as a day of actually demoing the tunes for the first time in their new forms. At this point everyone was shot, so we all decided to be smart, stay in and get some rest.

Day 3 brought another new song to the table...Matt, Jon, and Paul had a wedding to go to so we ended early, I went home to NY and Brian and Nick worked on vox for the rest of the day.

The last day, I was informed that it was going to be a vocal day only, so I stayed home to rest my arm which at this point was hamburger (Damn tendonitis!!)!! At the end of the day, Brian had a good 7 tunes demoed out vocally with some great new ideas, and Nick got on a flight back to LA.

All in all, we had a great 1st run. We can't stop talking about how much we think Nick is helping to add some more dimension to this band that we never thought existed, but don't start worrying yet, we're not cutting our hair and selling out, this record is still going to be heavy as hell!"

Stone Sour's "Through Glass" Earns #1 Single

Stone Sour's hit single "Through Glass" recently took the #1 spot on the Mainstream and Active Rock Charts, marking the first #1 single in the band's career.

The song bests the #4 charting position the band reached with "Bother," from their Gold-selling, self-titled debut album. "Through Glass" is currently #7 on the Modern Rock Chart, while the video was officially added to MTV2. The track is the first single off the band's latest album, Come What(ever) May, which debuted at #4 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart when it was released on August 1st.

Proclaimed by Blender Magazine as an album that "makes anger and angst seem almost fun," Come What(ever) May moved 80,786 units its first week out (triple the first album) and has sold over 191,000 units to date. Produced by Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Velvet Revolver), the album is an exercise in dynamics: tight, crisp, and full of rowdy rockers and melodic numbers.

Stone Sour is currently on the Family Values Tour with Korn, The Deftones, Flyleaf and others. This winter they will embark on the Music As A Weapon Tour with Disturbed.

Interview

Interview With Eddie From Victim Of Thought

Formed in 2005, Birmingham, Alabama's VICTIM OF THOUGHT is as solid of a metal act coming out of the underground scene as you can get. They combine elements of razor-sharp Pantera riff domination with an Anselmo-esque howl cry vocal delivery breaking off at a level just about any extreme music fan is going to appreciate. Citing main influences such as Judas Priest, Stone Temple Pilots, Life of Agony, Corrosion of Conformity, Victim Of Thought have really started to make people take notice of them on their local club scene and judging from their increasing popularity on MySpace, I predict this is going to be a band that goes very far in the immediate years to come. I wanted to learn more about them, so I recently got some Q&A done with Eddie on lead guitar. More...

Into Eternity Prepares To Shoot Video

Canada's INTO ETERNITY will be filming the video for "Severe Emotional Distress", from its September 25, 2006 release, "The Scattering Of Ashes", when the band hits Los Angeles as part of MEGADETH's Gigantour 2006. The band will be working with director by Kevin Wildt ("The Warriors", "Set Your Goals") and is excited to be turning its musical visions into visual reality. Guitarist Tim Roth says, "Our hope is to finally get some video play and show new fans what our progressive/death metal style sounds like."

Ready for metal school? The first in an ongoing weekly series, Century Media has posted the first of eight guitar lessons with INTO ETERNITY's guitarist Tim Roth at this location. Choosing a passage from "Timeless Winter", Roth shows you how to play like a six-string super demon. "It was cool to film my riffs and teach them the only way I know how," Roth says. "I'm not a real 'trained' teacher. Hopefully it will be helpful for anyone wanting to learn some of the new album. It was a lot fun creating those videos." More...

LoG's Alcoholism, In-Fighting Didn't Hurt Success

MTV.com reports: Six months ago, life looked pretty bleak for the technical thrash-metal band LAMB OF GOD.

The group was wrestling with material for its fourth album, Sacrament, with producer Machine, but the songs weren't coming together. No one could agree on the riff structures, singer Randy Blythe was drinking too much, and the band's deadline to finish the disc in time for its scheduled summer release was rapidly approaching.

"We were all going a little crazy," guitarist Mark Morton said. "We were on this schedule, so we always felt like we had to create something monumental by next Tuesday, and it's never easy for the five of us to come up with a batch of songs we all agree on. It's like pulling teeth."

These days, LAMB OF GOD are a lot more relaxed. Blythe is sober, the band's summer stint on SLAYER's Unholy Alliance Tour was a huge success, and LAMB OF GOD are getting ready to take off with MEGADETH's Gigantour, which begins September 6 in Idaho. More...

Stemage Reveal Album Details

Progressive metal band, Stemage, issue an update on their Myspace page regarding their album release:

"The album is called Strati, and will be coming out on Silent Uproar Records - www.surecords.com. The "street date" for the record hasn't been set, but all that's pending is art and pressing. I'm setting a tentative Oct 1, 2006 date, but that's pretty loose. You guys can snag the record on itunes way before the disc arrives if you're interested. As soon as I start taking preorders for the record I'll put up tracks periodically until release. Of course, by the time the first track hits, we'll have a hard date.

The art direction is being done by Asst Art Director of Rockstar Games, &rew, which is a privilege to say the very least. Little bits of his art can be seen on the stemage.com domain and the myspace page, but it's nothing but sketches so far. More...

Jesse Pintado Memorial Album Free For Download

Earache Records is making available for free downloading an mp3 album in honour of the late Jesse Pintado. The album, which is entitled ‘In Memory Of Jesse Pintado’, is a mixture of Jesse’s most well-known songs recorded for both Napalm Death and Terrorizer during his time as guitarist for the bands. Dan Tobin, label manager of Earache Records, said this in regards to Jesse’s sudden passing:

"Jesse was one of the most genuine people I ever met, extremely friendly and easy-going. Its such a tragic waste. I’ll remember him as part of what is my all time favourite Earache record, Terrorizer’s ‘World Downfall’, which is simply a grindcore masterpiece, and for all his amazing work with Napalm Death that I was honoured to be a small part of. I don’t think Jesse’s passing has been recognised as the huge loss it is – the worlds of extreme music and grindcore/death metal have lost a true pioneer. We owe him a massive debt and for that I’ll always remember the guy fondly."

The track-listing for the album, which can be downloaded here, is as follows:

01. Ripped To Shreds (Terrorizer)
02. The World Keeps Turning (Napalm Death)
03. Throwaway (Napalm Death)
04. Storm Of Stress (Terrorizer)
05. Upwards And Uninterested (Napalm Death)
06. I Abstain (Napalm Death)
07. Corporation Pull-In (Terrorizer)
08. Purist Realist (Napalm Death)
09. Remain Nameless (Napalm Death)
10. Inner Incineration (Napalm Death)
