Gaza Completes New Album
Utah's Gaza has finished recording their debut album, titled "I Don't Care Where I Go When I Die." Black Market Activities will release the effort on October 3rd. States the label: "[This album] is an absolutely bleak and terrifying experience. This is some of the most hateful and frightening music that we will probably ever release."
Doomsday Signs To Good Life Recordings
Good Life Recordings has officially signed Doomsday. The band features guitarist Monster, formerly of Purification, and according to the label, the band "combines the strength of brutal metalcore with infectuous melodies, resulting in an amazing melting pot of punishing hardcore." Their debut album, "No Angel Wings," will be available in late-September.
Bleeding Through and A7X Cover Pantera's Walk
BLEEDING THROUGH is currently dominating their run on Ozzfest 2006, returning for their sophomore year to co-headline the second stage. The band's new album, "The Truth", has been going strong since its release earlier this year, garnering much attention from fans and media alike. As an added bonus, fans have been able to see BLEEDING THROUGH vocalist Brandan Schieppati on stage with good friends AVENGED SEVENFOLD, singing a cover of PANTERA's "Walk". Speaking of the collaboration, Brandan says, "AVENGED SEVENFOLD is from our hometown in Orange County, and we took them out on our first tour. We have been close for awhile, and when they asked me to sing on stage with them, I accepted right away. They are singing the song as a tribute to Dimebag Darrell, and also to inform the younger generation of the important role of PANTERA in metal's musical evolution."
Shadows Fall Frontman Speaks Up
Tommy Mann, Jr. of The Orange Leader recently conducted an interview with SHADOWS FALL frontman Brian Fair. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow:
On the band's musical influences:
"We're old-school metal fans. We're fans of bands like JUDAS PRIEST, OZZY, and IRON MAIDEN, as well as the bands from the Bay Area metal scene. The average age of the guys in the band is about 32, so we're the old guys in the music biz, I guess."
On touring behind their latest CD, "Fallout from the War":
"It's a pretty short tour. It really just got under way on July 10. We couldn't do a big eight- or 10-week tour because we are planning to enter the studio in August for pre-production work on our next record."
"We just drove 800 miles from California for this show in Albuquerque. We have a lot of drives like this because we have to keep working our way around the big tours like Ozzfest, the SLAYER tour, and the Warped Tour."
On their two stints on Ozzfest:
"We played on Ozzfest in 2003 on the second stage. It was a great platform for us. We felt validated when we were asked to play on the main stage on the 2005 Ozzfest tour. That kind of exposure has helped earn us so many fans."
On doing his best to take care of it when he is out on the road.
“I work out a lot when we are on the road. Keeping myself in good physical shape is just one aspect, and I make sure I don't drink before shows. This tour isn't so bad since it is so short, but we do perform about an hour or so of total insanity each night."

Metallica's Lullaby Renditions Due Out This Month
How many sleepless nights have new parents spent trying to soothe a restless newborn? With the August 29 release of "Lullaby Renditions of Metallica" (cover), a solution is on the way. Enter Sandman.
That's right, the music that set the standard for aggressive, concussion-inducing rock will soon be lulling infants to sleep through dreamy re-workings of their head-banging fury. Classics like "Battery" and "Master of Puppets" feature glockenspiel, vibraphone, melotron, harps, bells and more. The music is arranged and performed by Michael Armstrong.
Part of the Rockabye Baby! series from Baby Rock Records, the METALLICA edition includes 11 of the band's most well-known songs. For those who grew up cranking "...And Justice for All" until their ears bled, it's a chance to share with a new generation the music of a band that's sold 29 million albums. At appropriate volume levels, of course.
Due on August 29, the METALLICA version is one of the first three releases in the series, along with albums of RADIOHEAD and COLDPLAY renditions. Future releases will focus on music from TOOL, THE CURE, NIRVANA, PIXIES, BJORK, PINK FLOYD, THE EAGLES, LED ZEPPELIN, THE BEATLES, THE BEACH BOYS, NO DOUBT, SMASHING PUMPKINS, and QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE.
Children's music is the fastest growing musical category. The Rockabye Baby! Lullaby Renditions series is targeting today's parents with today's tastes in a way that's gentle enough for even the youngest listener.
The albums will be available both in the respective artist's bin and "Children's Music" bin at retailers. Visit www.babyrockrecords.com for additional information and sound clips.

News On Wastefall's New Album
Greece's balls-heavy progressive act Wastefall's third album Self-Exile is taking the scene by storm, both with critics, connoisseurs and clinically-addicted fans of both progressive metal and straight-up monstrous thrash. Fans across the country (and those that travel inter-continentally for festivals) were churning with excitement to check out the bands' first ever US appearance at this year's Progpower Fest, but, as we see too many times, immigration got in the way. Here's an official statement from the band:
"We unfortunately have to announce that WASTEFALL will not be participating in this years "PROGPOWER USA" festival in Atlanta, USA on September 16th. When applying for the visa to be able to perform in USA, we ran into some unexpected problems with the Greek authorities, which have made it impossible for us to go. We're really sorry about this, as we know a lot of fans had been looking forward to seeing us in USA for the first time ever, and we ourselves had been looking very much forward to the whole experience of our first gig outside of Greece. We would like to extend our gratitude to both our label and management for doing what was possible in order to help us solve the problems, and especially we would like to thank Glenn Harveston of ProgPower USA for helping us beyond the call of duty on trying to make ends meet. We really hope to be able to go to ProgPower USA another year and make up for this." - Wastefall, 07/2006
Unfortunate news, but that snag will not impede on this bands' impact on the metal community this year, and they're fully supporting this album to the best of their abilities.
SYL's new Video To Air On Headbangers Ball
The new video from STRAPPING YOUNG LAD for the song “Wrongside” will premiere on MTV2’s Headbanger’s Ball program this Saturday night, August 3rd at 10PM EST/7PM PST. On August 1st, the group welcomed James MacDonough (ex-Megadeth, Iced Earth) to their line-up to handle the bass duties for the remaining tour dates. MacDonough will be replacing Byron Stroud only for these remaining shows since Stroud will be hitting the road with Fear Factory.

Sweden's DEATH BREATH has inked a deal with Relapse Records to have the band's debut record Stinking Up The Night released in North America.

DEATH BREATH's debut album Stinking Up The Night is scheduled for an October 17th release and its complete track listing is a follows: "Death Breath," "Chopping Spree," "Heading for Decapitation," "Dragged Through The Mud," "Coffins of the Unembalmed Dead," "A Morbid Mind," "Reduced to Ashes," "Christ All Fucking Mighty," "Flabby Little Things From Beyond," and "Cthulhu Fhtagn!" My Son My Executioner recently announced several line-up changes. Vocalist Zach Updegrove, guitarist Tommy Gates, and drummer David Bruner have amicably exited the band to "pursue other things." Unleased Will Not Play X-Mass Festival
Despite published reports to the contrary, Swedish veteran death metallers UNLEASHED will not play the X-Mass Festivals in Europe this year. "We are concentrating on the 'Masters Of Death Tour' starting the 3rd of November, together with GRAVE, ENTOMBED and DISMEMBER," the group writes on its web site. "The dates will be posted as they get confirmed very soon."
UNLEASHED recently inked a deal with SPV Records. The group's eighth full-length album, entitled "Midvinterblot", is scheduled for release this fall.
"We have more qualified songs to choose from than ever before, and I am very confident that this will be the best UNLEASHED album ever," frontman Johnny Hedlund previously stated about the CD. "Our mission is to create one of the most memorable records in the history of death metal!!! This one will be slightly faster than 'Sworn Allegiance'. The songs will be anthems in the true traditional UNLEASHED way and will have you screaming along with the choruses. The guitar sound will be taking a step towards brutality and grind. The drums are the closest we have ever come to recording a 'live' kind of intensity. The vocals? Well, not far away from 'Sworn Allegiance'... just add a little harshness and a slightly deep aggression to that sound and you'll get the picture right there. Expect nothing but one of the most memorable records in the history of death metal."
UNLEASHED utilized the services of stand-in drummer Jonas Tyskhagen (INCARDINE, PELLE & THE POORBOYS) for their appearance at the Metalmania festival in Katowice, Poland in early March after the group's regular skinsman, Anders Schultz was hospitalized following a lung-collapse.
UNLEASHED's seventh studio album, "Sworn Allegiance", was released in 2004 through Century Media Records. The follow-up to 2002's "Hell's Unleashed" was recorded and mixed by Fredrik Folkare at Chrome Studios and mastered by Peter In de Betou of Tailor Maid Productions (DIMMU BORGIR, AMON AMARTH, KATATONIA).
Eternal Tragedy Plan Next Album
Guitarist Stefania Ponzilacqua of the Italian metallers ETERNAL TRAGEDY has announced that the group's next album — to be produced by Tim Aymar (CONTROL DENIED) and engineered by Curran Murphy (ex-ANNIHILATOR) — will feature guest appearances by Kelly Conlon (ex-DEATH, MONSTROSITY) on bass and Robert Falzano (ex-ANNIHILATOR) on drums. The CD will contain "50 minutes of technical death metal," according to a press release.
In other news, Ponzilacqua is currently seeking a death metal singer, a bass player, a drummer and another guitarist for touring purposes. More information is available by writing to metalentity@yahoo.com.

The special features interviews plus live-in-concert and behind-the-scenes footage of the entire lineup - tour headliner SLAYER, as well as Lamb of God, Mastodon, Children of Bodom, and Thine Eyes Bleed.
In other Slayer news, Sirius Radio's "Hard Attack" will present "Eternity of Slayer," six days of "all things Slayer" that celebrates 25 years of metallic dominance. Slayer's Kerry King will be on hand for the special. During "Eternity of Slayer," Hard Attack will play Slayer once every hour, counting down the top six Slayer songs of all time as voted by the show's listeners (1-877-33-SIRIUS, 27 for Hard Attack, then press 2 for Slayer song list).

Just For Fun
Cartoon Network Goes Death Metal
Larissa Glasser of The Phoenix recently conducted an interview with Brendon Small and Tommy Blacha, creators of the upcoming cartoon series "Dethklok Metalocalypse" about a half-Norwegian/half-American black metal band called DEATHKLOK.
Premiering this Sunday (August 6) at 11:45 p.m. on Adult Swim (the adult-oriented television programming block on Cartoon Network) and featuring voice cameos by METALLICA's James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett — along with members of ARCH ENEMY and NEVERMORE — "Metalocalypse" follows the mayhem surrounding the world's biggest band, and 12th-largest economy, DETHKLOK. They live in a gigantic upside-down dragon boat perched atop the fjords of Norway. They cause disaster, destruction, and bloodshed wherever they go. In an age where metal is king, DETHKLOK's business savvy trumps the world's most shrewd visionaries. But they're excessively dumb when it comes to the most rudimentary tasks. For example, they don't know how to make food for themselves — not even a sandwich. During one scene, guitarist Skwisgarr Skwigelf tries to make coffee with a toaster. Although they've outsold THE BEATLES, DETHKLOK are, Brendon Small promises, "Just a thousand times more dangerous and a billion times more stupid."
"Ted Nugent once said that there's something inherently stupid about rock and roll," Blacha explained to The Phoenix. "I agree, but we aren't derisive of metal. For example, when we had Michael Amott [guitarist, ARCH ENEMY] come in to do voices for the show, it was really pleasing to have him tell us in his Swedish accent, 'I don't like it when people make fun of metal, but you guys know what you're doing.' He gave us this one head nod, and we were like, 'YES! That's exactly what we wanted.' "

Screaming Tips From Angela Gossow
ARCH ENEMY frontwoman Angela Gossow has posted the following message on her MySpace page:
"This is for everybody who is sending me the 'screaming advice' requests. I hope you find some useful info here..
"My short-cut vocal advice:
"Get some singing teaching/vocal coaching for the basics. i.e. breathing techniques, warm-ups. You have to use diaphragm breathing and rip-cage/back breathing. No chest-breathing and raised shoulders please!
"If you can't afford lessons, go and buy the DVD 'The Zen Of Screaming' from Melissa Cross. It's ram-packed with info, tips, explanations and artist features. You can order it at www.melissacross.com.
"Screaming/growling involves the vocal cords, but also the false cords. Make sure you got good control over them. Do plenty of exercise, which should also include melodic singing.
"Keep you body and your voice healthy. Smoking is not a good idea and so is drinking alcohol in large amounts. It eventually makes your vocal cords more vulnerable. Do sports (great for stamina and lung function) and eat healthy. Very spicy, fried or sugary food irritates the throat, causes acid reflux (number one cause for voice disorders!) and weakens your muscles. And vocal cords are muscles!
"Find out your range. If you are a soprano, don't try to sound like Chris Barnes. If you are an alto, approach those black metal screams with care.
"Get a good P.A. for the rehearsal room. Screaming is loud. Yes, I do not believe in muted screaming! But if you scream too hard you strain your throat unnecessarily and you will likely get sore. Or you start to bleed. Then run to the doctor. You have a hemorrhage on your chords!
"If you are sick, try not to scream. If you have to anyway (playing a show), try to avoid talking during the day and warm up your voice properly. Drink plenty of warm water with honey. It soothes the inflammation. If you get really bad, get a steroid shot to reduce the swelling on the cords and antibiotics to stop the inflammation. This is a last resort though this stuff is really, really bad for your health!
"If you suffer from allergies and asthma (like I do), make sure you are on the right medication. Some asthma sprays make you hoarse and more prone to colds, irritations etc. Try out a few, until you find the right one. Take antihistamines if you suffer from airborne allergies and have to perform outside or in a very dusty environment. Avoid passive smoking.
"Enjoy what you do, scream out your frustration, anger, whatever but always stay controlled. Never push too hard, especially live. I do it plenty though, its so much fun. I try to restrict it to the last shows of a tour, where I am allowed to blow my voice out a little, hehe. But only if I know I have a two-week break after that and plenty of time for voice recovery!
"Go to an ENT once a year and have your vocal cords and larynx checked. If you are constantly hoarse or you suddenly lose your upper range, you are very likely developing nodules. Stop immediately with the screaming and seek professional advice: first a doctor, then a vocal coach. You are doing something wrong. Maybe it's not the way you sing/scream, but more the way you talk!
"Stay metal! Boyish singing in the chorus is for emo kids. I love clean vocals but only the raw metal style. Rob Halford is one of my faves.
"These are just tips and no 'must-dos.' You can do whatever you like, really. These tips are interesting, if you are just starting out or you are experience trouble with your voice."

Savannah sludge rockers KYLESA have released details about the band’s follow-up to 2005’s highly praised ‘To Walk A Middle Course.’ Due out October 31 through Prosthetic Records, the new album has been dubbed ‘Time Will Fuse Its Worth’ and clocks in at just over 40-minutes. The tracklisting is as follows:
1) What Becomes An End
2) Hollow Severer
3) Where The Horizon Unfolds
4) Between Silence and Sound
5) Identity Defined
6) Ignoring Anger
7) The Warning
‘Time Will Fuse Its Worth’ marks the recording debuts of new drummers Jeff Porter and Carl McGinley, adding to the band’s already thunderous sound. As a precursor to the record’s release, KYLESA will open up a European tour September 5, trekking across the continent well into October, before returning to America.
