Borknagar Announce New Album Title

BORKNAGAR mainman Oystein G. Brun has issued the following message regarding the group's current activities:

"The new BORKNAGAR album will be called 'Origin', and is set to be released in Europe through Century Media/EMI on the 30th of October. A U.S. release date has not yet been set.

"Most of our fans will know by now that 'Origin' is a purely acoustic album. A sheer and honest result of a vision that we have had for many years: To let the acoustic basis of our music out to thrive and grow throughout an entire album. Those who are familiar with our music know that it has always had a very organic feel to it, and therefore we have chosen to focus entirely on the atmospheric and acoustic aspects of the band this time around. We love the result and truly believe that it shows a character and a side of the Borknagar that you have never heard before — only sensed. More...

Rumpelstiltskin Grinder Part w/ Vocalist

Philadelphia, PA thrashers RUMPELSTILTSKIN GRINDER have parted ways with vocalist Eli Shaika. "Shawn [Riley, bass] and Matt [Moore, guitar] are doing vocals, and we're not playing shows for a couple months to write new material," the band writes in a statement. "Simple enough. But what to expect when we come back... Who knows? Perhaps a song about a giant squid who lives in the sewers of a major city and rules the underground? Maybe a feel good rocker about a short but meaningful friendship with... a GHOUL?? Maybe we'll even see a giant inflatable skull on stage during 'Nothing Defeats the Skull'. One thing remains for sure though... are we still going to thrash? Yes. Are we fucking around? Of course not."

RUMPELSTILTSKIN GRINDER's Relapse Records debut, "Buried in the Front Yard", came out in October 2005.

Stone Sour's Jim Root On "Come What(ever) May"

Guitarist Jim Root spoke to Graham Finney of Planet-Loud.com

Planet-Loud.com: Onto the new record ("Come What(ever) May"). What did you want to achieve with it?

Jim: "We've always wanted to do a polished, more thought-out record and this record is more in that direction. The first record was basically a live in the studio record recorded in under month then mixed then put out there. On this record we had more time to work with it, more of a window, we were able to think about the artwork, the track listing and we were able to record sixteen of the thirty-odd songs we wrote. In some ways we were rushed on this record but in others we had time to hash out the demos, the songs and I think we pretty much achieved a step in the right direction of where we want to go as a band with this record."

Planet-Loud.com: Do you think being able to spend more time on this record shaped the way it sounded?

Jim: "Definitely, we seperated everything ? the drums, the vocals, the guitars. We were able to bring a lot more instruments in and think about everything, we had more time to experiment on this record."

Planet-Loud.com: You had a few guests on this album, like Shannon from GODSMACK. How did that come about?

Jim: "Well, when Roy [Mayorga] joined the band, he came in and did all the drum tracks ? fourteen tracks in something like five or six days. He had already promised SEPULTURA he would go on tour with them over in Europe so we lost him before the album was completed. We had two songs left to track drums for and we've known Shannon from the AMEN days and he has been a good friend of ours and he is a monster of a drummer so we just invited him in and, like with most things on this album, most things fall into place. It just so happens he was in Las Vegas recording a video for GODSMACK so he came in and played drums on these two songs. I'm glad he did."

Planet-Loud.com: I was going to ask, what do you get out of STONE SOUR that you don't get out of SLIPKNOT?

Jim: "It goes deeper than just music. Someone asked me before do you really need SLIPKNOT and STONE SOUR to get your musical opinions out but it goes deeper than the songs and playing them live. You're talking about a whole different set of people and a whole different set of songs. SLIPKNOT is a combination of personalities and egos while STONE SOUR allows me to explore more musical avenues. It gives me a lot of freedom and allows me step outside of SLIPKNOT and look at everything objectively and reassess everything."

Planet-Loud.com: You've described life as a big learning experience what lessons have you learned?

Jim: "I've learned that no matter what you do and who you think you are, life can be taken away at any moment. I've also learned that no matter how bad you have it, it could always be worse. A lot has gone on with us in the past couple of years. I broke my wrist towards the end of the last SLIPKNOT touring cycle which meant I missed a month of touring and at a time when I was feeling similar to the end of the 'Iowa' cycle, I was just aggrevated and over it. I then started thinking what it would be like if it was taken away and, when I had the accident, it was and it's not a good feeling. Having said that, I could say that everything is dismal and we're all aggro and stuff but, you know, life is pretty good at the moment."

Mastodon Post 'The Wolf Is Loose' Video Online

MASTODON's video for the song "The Wolf is Loose" has been posted online at this location. The track comes off the Atlanta band's forthcoming album, "Blood Mountain", due on September 12 via Warner Bros. Records.

The "The Wolf is Loose" video was shot on August 12 with director Jonathan Rej (FURTHER SEEMS FOREVER, STRETCH ARMSTRONG), who worked with the band on the video for "Blood and Thunder" from 2004's "Leviathan".

"For 'Wolf', it's going to be a Savannah ghost story," MASTODON drummer Bränn Dailor explained to MTV.com. "Savannah is the most haunted city in America, and we were thinking ghosts in the forest, and ghosts being chased, and we gave Jonathan that and he kind of ran with it. He came up with this whole story, and it's going to be shot in black and white. We're ghosts in it, and different body parts of ours will be disappearing and falling off." More...

Bolt Thrower Abandons U.S. Tour Plans

British extreme metal pioneers BOLT THROWER have posted the following message on their official web site:

"BOLT THROWER have had to cancel plans to tour the U.S. this year with their 'Those Still Loyal' tour.

"Unfortunately their label, Metal Blade Records, refused to financially back the band, i.e. pay towards the flights, etc. Despite trying to work out other ways to make this happen, the band found they were unable to finance a tour of this scale on their own and therefore had to stop any further planning of the tour.

"BOLT THROWER apologise to Maurizio and Thunderdome Touring, the promoters/bands who were willing to participate in the tour and their fans in the U.S. who were hoping to finally see them live. Regrettably, it looks like while BOLT THROWER are signed to Metal Blade Records they will be unable to tour the States." More...

Carnal Forge Post Songwriting Update

Swedish thrashers CARNAL FORGE have issued the following update:

"The pre-production of the new album has been a long, long process but in the end it has been really worth it. We have gone through all the arrangements and vocal parts in a way that we never have done with CARNAL FORGE before. The result is just utterly brilliant. We have also tried some stuff that we never did in CARNAL FORGE. We have a couple really heavy songs. One is so slow it almost falls apart... haha...

"Some wonder why it takes so goddamn long time this time around, but the thing is that we live in three different cities, so we have met for pre-production work once, maybe twice a month to work together. On all other albums with CARNAL FORGE, the vocals were made in the studio. But I promise you it's worth the wait... Soon we'll start the real recording..." More...
