The End Have Begun Recording New Material
Canadian quintet THE END has begun recording their new full-length album.
This as-of-yet-untitled release is being recorded at B.W.C. Studios in Brampton, Ontario with producer Greg Dawson. THE END vocalist Aaron Wolff (the band is rounded out by guitarists Steve Watson and Andrew Hercules, bassist Sean Dooley and drummer Anthony Salajko) describes the writing process: "There was a very conscience effort to create the album that people won't be able to predict, and won't get tired of. It's a record for metal heads, it's a record for hardcore kids, it's a record for rock n’ rollers. We're really focusing on exploring things that are very human, basic human emotions...The things that people try to hide and cover up but are still there no matter what is done to forget about it.....the kind anyone can relate to."
"We also felt the need to do things that are were out of the ordinary for ourselves as song writers, to keep things new and exciting and to make moves in directions we've never explored.” Wolff continues; "The result, is an extremely diverse record. Right from the first word we are pulling the listener inside the record. We truly feel that there is something in this record for anyone, as long as they are willing to let themselves forget about everything around them and focus on where the sound takes them. We are extremely happy with the progress we have made thus far."
The recording of the new album will wrap at summer's end and will be released in early 2007 on Relapse Records.

Koldborn Sign With Listenable Records
Danish death metallers KOLDBORN have inked a deal with Listenable Records.
The label has issued the following press release:
Koldborn was formed by drummer Rasmus and axeman Heinz (also now guitar player in HATESPHERE) in 1997 with the intention of playing catchy brutal music with an emphasis on groove.
After signing with the Danish label Diehard Music, they soon released their debut album, First Enslavement, in 2001. The 2004 EP The Devil Of All Deals was faster, more aggressive and introduced the new vocalist Lars.
This is the year 2006 and Koldborn are once again ready to blast their way to the top of European metal with their new CD, The Uncanny Valley.
Due to be released on October 16th in Europe on Listenable Records, it is an astonishing album that takes musical aggression to a new level and grooves straight to the fuckin' core of all that is heavy and extreme! Watch out!
New tracks from the upcoming album The Uncanny Valley are available at the band's MySpace page. (Note: The album cover depicted at the MySpace page is not final. New art will be revealed shortly.)

The Darkness Singer Checks Into Rehab
THE DARKNESS frontman Justin Hawkins checked himself into London rehab clinic The Priory on Saturday (August 12), according to a British newspaper.
Hawkins, who has admitted battling the eating disorder bulimia in the past, prompted fears over his health when he cancelled a festival appearance in Denmark last week.
The 31-year-old has been under increasing pressure following the commercial failure of his group's second album "One Way Ticket To Hell…And Back", and it was rumored his record label is preparing to drop him.
However, in a statement issued earlier today, the other members of THE DARKNESS denied that Hawkins' current health issues will result in a band split.
"After Justin saw a doctor last week and was recommended to 'cancel all professional commitments or work-related activities,' we had little choice but to cancel the band's appearance at the Skanderborg Festival in Denmark, something that the band hate to do, but having been out on the road constantly for such a long time and having not had any time off over the past three years, that's what Justin has decided to do and we are all agreed that his health must come first," the group said in the statement. Shadows Fall Enter Studio In September
Drummer Jason Bittner of SHADOWS FALL has issued the following update:
"Well, it's been a few weeks since our last update, but forgive us, we were busy on the road bringing the rock!!! The Sthress tour came to an almighty close this past weekend in Worcester, Massachusetts to a dynamite crowd. The show rocked, V.O.D. [VISION OF DISORDER] reunited and kicked ass, plus we had the godly LEEWAY with us as well. Towards the end of our set, we let Matt and Jon take a break and Paul Brian, and myself took the stage with Eddie, AJ, and Mike from LEEWAY to perform 'Mark of the Squealer'. As a certain guy from Jersey would say, 'It was FREAKIN' AWESOME!'
"So now what's in store for the SHAD, you might ask... Well, no rest for the wicked. We start rehearsals again this week, and then pre-production starts next week for the new album.
"Due to some unfortunate changes in scheduling, we'll be hitting L.A. to record in September instead of the originally planned November, but that's OK, because that means the new record will definately make it on the shelves by early 2007 followed by EXTENSIVE touring, I'm sure. More...
Slayer Debut At #5 On Billboard 200
The City of Fullerton, CA abruptly removed all 17 of Slayer's promotional bus benches. Twenty years of equipment and stage production was stolen out of their warehouse. Their 2006 U.S. Tour due to kick off 6.6.06 had to be postponed due to band member Tom Araya's emergency surgery. But none of these roadblocks prevented Slayer's brand new album, "Christ Illusion" (American Recordings/WBR), from making the highest chart debut of the band's career, coming in at #5 on Billboard's Top 200 Albums Chart.
In addition, "Christ Illusion" - executive produced by Rick Rubin and produced by Josh Abraham - is a Top 10 album internationally in its first week, debuting at #2 in Germany, #2 in Finland, #8 in Holland, #9 in Australia, and #6 in Austria.
With more than 62,000 copies sold in the U.S. in its first week, "Christ Illusion" marks the long-awaited return of the legendary punk/thrash/metal band. "Christ Illusion" is Slayer's first new studio album in five years, and the first recorded by the original line-up - Araya/bass, vocals; Kerry King/guitars; Jeff Hanneman/guitars, and Dave Lombardo/drums - in more than 15 years. The #5 debut is only the second time in Slayer's 25-year-plus history that they've debuted in Billboard's Top 10 - 1994's "Divine Intervention" came in at #8.
On "Christ Illusion," the unabashedly controversial Slayer takes on Government and God, looking at the World Trade Center disaster from the terrorists' point of view, and repeatedly committing lyrical blasphemy.

Nightwish Steps Up Vocalist Search
Finland's NIGHTWISH has posted the following message on its official web site:
"NIGHTWISH is currently and actively looking for a new singer/frontwoman for the band. We need the obvious things: Looks, charisma, courage and, of course, a big voice. Good grasp of the English language is also very helpful. We don't necessarily need a classically trained vocalist like Tarja Turunen (the former vocalist). We welcome all kinds of styles and voices, natural and trained, from rock and pop to classical, and all that you can find in between. You should however be prepared to sing with a lot of dynamics and versatility. From loud and high to very sensitive stuff. You should preferably send us a CD containing 2-3 songs that you consider to be your best work. If you send an album, would you mark out 2-3 most important songs, please? If you record and send NIGHTWISH songs, then the most important thing is your PERSONAL TOUCH. Photographs are needed as well. More...

Tool Announce Australian Shows
Tool have announced that they will be heading Down Under in January next year to play two shows, one in Sydney, and one in Melbourne. The annual Tool rumour is once again rampant, suggesting that the band will possibly be showing their gratitude to their Australian fans by joining the next Big Day Out tour. Whilst this rumour leaks it's way into Aussie hearts almost every year, with a very minimal two-show tour in support of their latest album, "10,000 Days", high hopes are perhaps a little easier to get away with this time around.
The tickets for the Sydney and Melbourne shows start selling August 25th through Ticketmaster. Details follow:
Sydney: January 24th at the Sydney Entertainment Centre
Melbourne: January 31st at the l Myer Music Bowl
