Threat Signal Guitarist Leaves Band

Rich Howard, guitarist for the newly signed Canadian band THREAT SIGNAL, has left the band to pursue other life goals.

"We totally respect his decision and wish him the best of luck in the future," commented vocalist Jon Howard via their official website. "Rich, your time in the band was amazing and we'll never forget the kick-ass riffage you threw down!" Rich will play the remaining shows on the band's August itinerary. Afterwards, current bassist Marco Bressette will take over guitar duties.

Due to the recent turn of events, THREAT SIGNAL is in urgent need of a new bassist for the band's upcoming October/November North American tour with label mates SOILWORK and MNEMIC. According to the band, here's what they're looking for:

"A dude who can slay a bass like a guitar, must use a pick, have professional gear, willing (and able!) to tour the world and make THREAT SIGNAL his top priority."

Interested parties are encouraged to contact the band at threatsignal@hotmail.com

Interview

Interview With The Metal Twins

I don't think I need to make much of an introduction on these two lovely young ladies, for they are extremely well known among the most dedicated of metalers on the live scene or that are addicted to MySpace online like the rest of us. THE METAL TWINS, Megan and Stacy are Rock N Roll gorgeous, full of child-like energy and definitely on their way up as recognizable personalities in the heavy music arena for sure. I wanted to take some time and finally interview them inbetween their dancing on stage for the likes of CHIMAIRA or being killed at the hands of GWAR to try and help show others around what a true metaler is all about. I got real lucky with these hotties, a two for one, if you will, and easily the most down for the music I've ever witnessed.

A7X Bassist Talks About San Bernadino Power Outage

In a recent interview with Avenged Sevenfold bassist, Johnny Christ, he was asked about the power outage at the San Bernadino, CA Ozzfest. Johnny Replied:

"When it happened I figured I'd just grab a beer and wait it out. But once we heard the "A7X" chants and fires breaking out we thought it might be a good idea to head to the back. Security thought a riot might happen and told us to grab our shit and wait on the bus. We said "Fuck that!" we're going to wait this out like every audience member. So we kicked it in the back for a while and once the power came back on we torn that bitch down."

Mushroomhead's Savior Sorrow Artwork Online

The cover artwork for MUSHROOMHEAD's new album, "Savior Sorrow", has been posted online at this location. Due on September 19 via Megaforce Records, the CD was produced in April 2006 by drummer Steve "Skinny" Felton and MUSHROOMHEAD at Cleveland's Filthy Hands Studios.

Commented Felton: "It's a new chapter in MUSHROOMHEAD's evolution. There are sounds on this album that sound so brutal and huge. We focused on delivering some vicious hardcore mixed with heavy melodic hooks. Lyrically, it definitely reflects where the world is at this moment in time."

MUSHROOMHEAD's follow-up to 2003's "XIII" (Republic/Universal) marks the group's recording debut with singer Waylon, who replaced frontman J. Mann in 2004.

"Waylon brings a new dimension to the band [he's] not only a great frontman, but he can also scream and sing like a chameleon, changing vocal quality to adapt to the true nature of each song," Felton said. "His versatility is remarkable."

The album's first single will hit radio in mid-August. The band will begin a world tour starting September 12, 2006.

As previously reported, a demo version of a new MUSHROOMHEAD track, entitled "Burn", was included on a FYE sampler which was given away in June exclusively with the purchase of two qualifying CDs at FYE stores. It was limited to 25,000 copies and was done in conjunction with Decibel magazine.

"Savior Sorrow" track listing:

01. 1200
02. Simple Survival
03. Stoned
04. Save Us
05. Tattoo
06. The Doubt
07. Burn
08. Pretending
09. The Need
10. Cut Me
11. The Fallen
12. Embrace The Ending

Metallica Guitarist Loves Dragonforce

Steve Baltin of AOL Music recently asked METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett which new guitarists have impressed him of late.

"I really like this absurd band called DRAGONFORCE," Kirk said. "Those are the fastest guitar players I think I've ever seen. They're like Yngwie [Malmsteen] on steroids. No, they're like Barry Bonds on guitar. It's amazing. I saw one video and I swear to God the guy must've played 75,000 notes."

As for some of the other music Hammett's been digging, he said, "I like MUSE, MARS VOLTA, TRIVIUM, THE SWORD. I think WOLFMOTHER is fun. THE BLACK KEYS. And I've been listening to HANK WILLIAMS, because you've just got to. It's as heavy as ROBERT JOHNSON or BOB DYLAN."

What was the last concert he saw? "Must've been our own show on YouTube. I was watching our Moscow show from 1991 and thinking, 'Damn, we were good that night. What happened?'"

NoFx Attacks Underoath and Christianity

Underoath released a statement on Friday, July 28, stating they are dropping off the Vans Warped Tour to save their friendship. NoFX frontman, Fat Mike, made several comments directed at Underoath and the bands beliefs. Fat Mike was on stage and opened with "most bands on the warped tour this year really aren't that good, like Underoath, not that good. We don't care about our fans, we just want to offend as many people as we can." He later stated "if you are Christian or believe in God like Underoath, i would leave right now because i am trying to offend as many Christians as i can." The song "Idiot, Son of an Asshole" was later dedicated to God.

Upon hearing that Underoath dropped off the Warped Tour, Fat Mike called the band on their bus and apologized for the comments he made and assured the band they were made lightheartedly.

Interview With Buddha From Shackle Jack

Holland, Michigan's SHACKLE JACK is everything that you want in a straight ahead metal band. They seem to understand how to keep it heavy but melodic and even have a 70's throwback sound going for them, yet still managing the heavy handed skull-crush of PANTERA or BLACK LABEL SOCIETY. They have a new full-length album out, "Jack In Irons", available online and in select West Michigan Stores. The band is made up of Eric 'Buddha' Evenhouse on vocals/guitar, Jesse Davis on bass/backup vocals, Justin Glover on drums and Dustin Rae on lead guitar. They are loaded up with many live show dates throughout the remainder of the summer and seem to seriously have things rockin in the right direction for them. I broke out my trusty formula of questions for their extremely engaging front man, Buddha. More...

Interview

Interview With Andrew De Lange Of Orcus

Glendale, California's ORCUS has been feeding the Los Angeles Rock scene a steady diet of its unique brand of progressive black metal music since originally forming back in 2003. They have quickly become a favorite to many diehard metalers, due to the fact that they pretty much 'out talent' most groups of musicians around them. They remain unsigned, but I see them becoming attached very soon, having opened for such well known acts as OBITUARY and MY RUIN, all the while easily managing to hold their own and in some instances, in moments of sheer sonic beauty, obliterating anyone else that unfortunately has to share the stage with them. They have a new self-released album out entitled 'Birth' and I am happy to have had a chance to interview their keyboard player, Andrew De Lange. More...

Evanescence New Single Available For Streaming

AOL Music is currently streaming the new EVANESCENCE single, "Call Me When You're Sober", at this location. The video for the song will debut August 7 on MTV. According to MTV.com, the clip features singer Amy Lee wearing a red satin cape and sitting at an antiquated vanity. A young man — with crystal blue eyes and scruffy, overgrown facial hair and sideburns — approaches her from behind, caressing her shoulders and softly kissing her neck as she tries to rebuff his advances.

"The song is so literal, the lyrics and everything — I mean, obviously, just by the title — that we felt like the video would have the freedom to go in a less literal direction," she explained. "So it's [a modern re-imagining of] Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf and sort of a more cool, superhero, rock and roll Little Red Riding Hood."

The song's subject matter, Lee said, involves "something that everyone's been through" — the frustration of "dealing with someone with an addiction, which is really hard, especially when you love someone."

EVANESCENCE's new album, "The Open Door", is scheduled for release on October 3 via Wind-Up Records.

Man Badly Beaten At Family Values Concert

A 30-year-old man who was beaten in the mosh pit at the Family Values show at Atlanta's Hi-Fi Buys Amphitheater on Sunday night is hospitalized and on life support after being declared brain dead. According to Atlanta's WSB-TV, 30-year-old Andy Richardson is in critical condition following the fight, during which two unidentified men attacked him in the mosh pit after Richardson asked the men to be careful not to hurt his pregnant girlfriend and a mentally challenged child they had with them.

"Can you imagine your child goes to a concert and be killed for it, because of people out there fighting to have a quote unquote good time?" Richardson's mom, Gloria told the station. "And I'm angry. I'm very angry. Why were the police not there to stop them?"

A friend of Richardson's who attended the Korn-headlined show with him, Edgar Arellano, said the fight broke out after Richardson asked the men to be careful, but it ended soon after that and the men left the area. "We were all enjoying the concert, we were having a good time, until these two guys came around," Arellano said, adding that the men showed up again and one of them punched Richardson in the head, knocking him head first onto the concrete.

"He was unconscious. He had blood all over his face when I picked him up," Arellano said.

WSB-TV reported that homicide investigators are looking into the beating, but have only a vague description of the suspects. A spokesperson for the Atlanta Police Department could not be reached for comment at press time. A spokesperson for the amphitheater could not be reached for comment.

Richardson's mother said her son is brain dead and on life support and is not expected to live.
