Taproot Invites You To Create The Video For Single

Velvet Hammer Music/Atlantic recording group TAPROOT has unveiled plans for an exciting online video contest to herald the release of its much anticipated third album. The album - dubbed "Blue-Sky Research" -will arrive in stores on August 16th.

The TAPROOT 'Facepeeler Video Contest' invites aspiring film makers, flash artists, and animators from around the globe to compete for exclusive prizes by creating their own unique video for the "Blue-Sky Research" track, 'Facepeeler'. Participants will be able to upload their Quicktime Video submissions at a http://www.taprootvideocontest.com. All entries will be showcased on the site as well, and will be voted on by peers and fans. Hosted by StreetWise Concepts & Culture, the TAPROOT 'Facepeeler Video Contest' is set to launch today, Monday, August 1st. TAPROOT will be appearing on FUSE's "Daily Download" show on Thursday, August 4th to perform as well as discuss the launch of the contest.

Co-presenters of the contest include Sony Media Solutions, Etnies, Ibanez, FUSE, and Quicktime. The grand prize includes a full production suite from Sony Media Solutions, apparel from Etnies, and an Ibanez guitar autographed by the band. Ten voters will also be randomly selected to receive prize packs from Streetwise and Etnies. Full details and contest rules are available at http://www.taprootvideocontest.com.

Singer Steve Richards says, "With all the new technology available today, some of the most exciting video footage and art is coming from people outside of the traditional 'biz.' We're excited to give some of the up and coming talent out there the platform to show off their skills, and we can't wait to see how many interesting ways our song gets interpreted."

Produced by Toby Wright, "Blue-Sky Research"" sees the Ann Arbor-based quartet continuing their musical exploration of hard rock's many textures. The album showcases the band's gift for inventive melodies and thought-provoking lyricism, as is evident in the album's first single, 'Calling'. "Blue-Sky Research" finds the band collaborating with such like-minded artists as Billy Corgan, who shares credit on three of the album's songs: 'Lost In The Woods', 'Violent Seas', and 'Promise'.

TAPROOT is currently on the road, teaming up with CHEVELLE and 30 SECONDS TO MARS.

Chimaira Has New Video Stolen!

Fans are so rabid for new CHIMAIRA material that one of them "stole" the video to "Nothing Remains", the first single off the self-titled album that will be in stores August 9, and put it up all over the web. The video was stolen from the director's web site after the fan illegally hacked in. Still in its inital editing phase, the video had yet to be seen by the band or executives at Roadrunner Records.

Commented singer Mark Hunter: "It's exciting to see that our fans are itching to get a hold of our new material, and to see that they actually enjoyed the video. However, the video was in its infant stage and while we are extremely proud of where it stands now, we know that it will be much better when it is finished. I can't wait for our fans to see the finished version and as soon as it's done I'll put it up on the web myself."

The follow-up to 2003's "The Impossibility of Reason", "Chimaira" was recorded at Spider Studios in Ohio with producer Ben Schigel, who has described the new material as having "more of an epic kind of vibe. The songs are a lot longer, but we found a way to make them long without being boring. Now that it's coming together, it sounds way more brutal." Mixing duties were handled by Colin Richardson (MACHINE HEAD, FEAR FACTORY, NAPALM DEATH).

CHIMAIRA, SIX FEET UNDER, ALL THAT REMAINS and 3 INCHES OF BLOOD will be teaming up for a U.S. tour beginning on August 3 in Nashville, TN. Confirmed dates are as follows:

Iced Earth To Do Two-Part Concept Album

On Track Magazine recently conducted an interview with Iced Earth/Demons & Wizards guitarist Jon Schaffer. An excerpt from the chat follows:

Jon: "...I'm very excited about what's comin' up and it's gonna be a while because we're finally gonna do the 'Something Wicked This Way Comes' story on the most awesome concept record that we've ever done. So I'm gonna start writing that very soon and Tim's [Owens, vocals] excited about it and we're just gonna come back with a vengeance, man."

On Track Magazine: Very cool, awesome.

Jon: "Yeah we’re for sure gonna do that, and it wasn’t that it was given to me, but it’s been somethin’ that I’ve been pitchin’ to SPV that I had to have certain commitments from them in order to carry on with it. Believe it or not, after all these years, especially around the writing process for The Glorious Burden, I was thinkin’, ‘Man, you know, I’ve gotta finish the Something Wicked thing one of these days.’ And I wonder if, after all these years, if I’m still gonna be inspired enough to want to do it; to really get into it and to tell the story the way it needs to be told. And I think, because my daughter being born, I’m finally able to…. I don’t know man, I feel psyched, I’m totally pumped and ready to attack this thing. And SPV’s goin’ along with my plan - the decision was made Friday that we’re gonna do it. It’s gonna be two albums: it’s gonna be a Part I and then Part II will probably be released six months later. Part I will come out as we’re finishing up Part II and then we’ll probably kick off the world tour with the release of Part II. So it’s gonna probably be three and a half hours of music and I mean, I’m tellin’ a story that is sci-fi kind of horror, conspiracy theory, but it’s based over twelve thousand years of human history; there’s a lot to tackle in this thing. The trilogy was just a teaser to the whole story and what we’re gonna be gettin’ in to is so much bigger. And that’s actually the big news, I know there have been a lot of people that have been wantin’ that to happen for a long time."
