Voivod Guitarist Passes Away
According to VOIVOD vocalist Denis "Snake" Belanger:
"Yesterday, Friday 26th at 23:45, Piggy passed away.
I would like to thank all of you for all the good words and encouragments you gave Denis during his battle. I will keep you posted for funeral details."
Former Voivod bassist Jean-Yves (Blacky) Theriault has issued the following statement:
"Life does not always turn out the way you expect. Mine and the lives of many of my friends from Jonquiere were certainly influenced by one specific person, Denis D'Amour. He was a mentor and a hero for many of us. He was my best friend.
I have dreaded the arrival of this day for a while now. My old bandmate is gone. He passed away last night at peace with himself and without pain. Until the very end he was both a sweetheart and a real rocker, without compromise.
I am so grateful that I had the chance to let him know how much he meant to me and how much I loved him. Denis did not live to see his last artistic effort released but the rest of us will appreciate it all the more.
Long live Denis D'Amour. Long live Piggy."
As previously reported, Voivod guitarist Denis "Piggy" D'Amour had been battling advanced colon cancer which spread to his liver. Denis was 45 years old.
Stratovarius Explain Meet And Greet In Chile
Stratovarius has posted the following message on their website to clarify fake VIP tickets that have been sold to their fans in Chile:
We would like to clear up any confusion regarding "fan meetings" before and at the show this past weekend in Santiago, Chile.
Apparently there was a) VIP tickets sold for the show with a higher price and with some vague promise for a chance to meet the band; and b) tickets sold for some "welcome party" at a club called the Rockola.
We just want to make clear that the band NEVER authorized any sort of fan meeting in exchange for money. In fact, we feel it's a huge rip-off to charge our fans for anything other than either a musical performance or for merchandise.
After finding this out the same day we arrived, some of us went to the Rockola at least, so as to not totally disappoint fans who had already paid money to "meet the band".
Due to extremely poor security, the situation at the Rockola was chaotic to the point of being dangerous. If we seemed like we were a bit uncomfortable there, it was because of that issue.
In the future, if someone makes a promise that the band will appear to sign autographs/ take pictures/ etc in exchange for money you can be damned sure that a) they didn't tell us about it; and b) that we most likely will not show up. So that's that, please don't waste your money.
But other than that, the shows are going amazingly great and Chile was definitely just a spectacular experience for us! See you soon!

Arch Enemy's Angela Checks In w/ Ozzfest Update
Angela Gossow, frontwoman for Arch Enemy, has checked in with the following Ozzfest update:
"Dear friends,
"It’s about time for an update, quite a few things have happened over the last few days.
"Let’s start with the show in Phoenix, AZ 18th of August. With 110 Degrees out there this was easily the hottest day on the tour so far. By noon, people were dropping like flies. Nevertheless, we had a great show with a very energetic audience. Unfortunately, I got a slight case of food poisoning that day and had quite a rough ride thru the mountains to San Diego, where we played an off-show with Killswitch Engage the next day, Friday August the 19th.
"The show went surprisingly well though, I didn’t have any ‘accidents’ during our set - the wonderful crowd really carried me through. I am sorry I didn’t hang out after the show, but I was back to being full-on nauseas. We had some hardcore fans out there that evening; I even got to sign a very rare Asmodina CD!
"So we travelled on to L.A, to play the Ozzfest show that went down in history for the very wrong reasons… Anyway, we had a blast during our show in front of the largest crowd on the whole tour so far, extremely energetic and enthusiastic, stirring up a dust cloud from hell in the moshpit. It felt like eating large spoons full of sand whilst being on stage.
"L.A is famous for having all kinds of ‘important’ people hanging around backstage, whom we decided to escape around 5pm that afternoon – so we left the site. We didn’t witness any of the absurd events that went down during the Iron Maiden set later on that night.
"We played another off-show the next day, supporting Slipknot in Las Vegas. The Slipknot fans (or ‘maggots’) gave us a warm reception – THANK YOU! Last time we were in ‘sin city’ was two years ago with Slayer. We all enjoyed ourselves in one way or the other – I chose the other way and spent a relaxing day in the Spa. The gambling doesn’t do it for me. Neither do the hookers. I am sure the guys made up for my boring behaviour though, he-he…
"On August the 23rd, we played a small but raging Ozzfest show in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Today, we played the Dallas Ozzfest – another very intense and SHORT performance!
"Listening to the new Obituary album, love the old-school vibe and John Tardy’s vocals, sick as always.
"So long,
Angela"
