Aborted Updates On Upcoming US Tour, Lineup
Belgium’s Aborted are preparing for their first full North American invasion. Their new album, The Archaic Abattoir, “an epic in its own right” won the band considerable praise. Founder and vocalist Sven De Caluwe commented on the upcoming tour and line-up changes: “Things are really starting to move fast for us, and we're fully preparing ourselves for the upcoming U.S. tour with Cryptopsy, Suffocation and Despised Icon. Needless to say, we're all extremely psyched about this tour and can't wait to spread our own little brand of death-fucking-metal to all our fans. To the people who have been waiting to see us over there; the wait is over, and we'll make sure none of you will have any regrets. Some news on the band, we're also very happy with the way the new line-up is working out. Guitarist Stephane Souteyrand has been in the band since June and has been more than great. He's not only a great musician but also a very cool guy to work with, and we can't wait to start writing the next album with him by our side. See you guys in a month!”
The video for “Dead Wreckoning” will premier on MTV2’s Headbangers Ball Saturday night September 3rd. Produced by Darren Doane (Shadows Fall, Nile) and filmed in Downtown L.A. “in the basement of an old meat factory, De Caluwe said, “Scary fact is that there was blood everywhere, fresh blood, which neither Darren nor the band put there. Weird part is the factory has been out of business for quite some time…”

Cellador Signs To Metal Blade Records
CELLADOR is a melodic speed/power metal band from Omaha, Nebraska. Originally formed in Summer 2004 by guitarist Chris Petersen, CELLADOR was founded with the purpose of introducing aggressive European influenced melodic speed/power metal to the Midwest USA, where the style is completely nonexistent and virtually unknown. CELLADOR spent the fall and winter months of 2004 writing and rehearsing, and began playing live by March 2005. In May, CELLADOR came out with the demo, Leaving All Behind, which The Black Dahlia Murder guys passed on to Brain Slagel, after the band opened for them in Omaha. Impressed by their skill and musicianship, Brian Slagel offered the band a contract making them one of Metal Blade Records latest singings.
“I am truly excited about our latest signing, CELLADOR. They are a young band with incredible musicianship and songs. We have been looking just for this type of band who mix the old school metal with a fresh attitude.” Brian Slagel Owner/CEO Metal Blade Records Inc.
"We are very proud and excited to be welcomed to the METAL BLADE family. With its current roster and unprecedented history of dedication and integrity, it is with great honor and gratitude that we have been chosen and given the opportunity to represent true American melodic speed metal on one of the biggest labels in the world of metal. Their past success and dedication is only a greater source of inspiration now for us to press forth with pushing true metal to its extreme. Look out for us!!" Chris Petersen- Guitarist CELLADOR
Cellador is currently writing and rehearsing, and plan on recording this December with their debut Metal Blade release to be out sometime in the spring of 2006. To check out some of the bands triumphant songs head over to their MySpace page HERE.
In other news CELLADOR is currently auditioning for the position of lead guitar and keyboard player. The individual must excel in playing both lead and rhythm at slow to often very energetic speeds, and must also have and maintain a committed, motivated, and cooperative personality that benefits the band as a whole. The band would prefer a young and energetic individual between the ages of 18-24 who is able and willing to travel, and with a large background in metal. If interested, send an email with your name and past band experience to contact@cellador.com for more information.
CELLADOR dates:
9/03 Des Moines, IA House of Bricks (early show 5pm)
9/16 Omaha, NE Sokol Underground (7pm)
9/24 Bellevue, NE OFFUTT Air Force Base (6pm)
Voivod To Complete Album As A Tribute To Piggy
VOIVOD drummer Michel "Away" Langevin has told Montreal's La Presse that the group are planning on releasing an album of new material written prior to the passing of VOIVOD guitarist Denis "Piggy" D'Amour. "Denis asked us to utilize the tracks he had recorded [during the pre-production process for the new CD]," Langevin said. "He wanted us to complete the album as a tribute to him."
Only two months ago, D'Amour was in the studio working on VOIVOD's 14th album. More than two dozen tracks are believed to have been demoed for the CD, for which the group recently inked a deal with The End Records. However, the band were forced to put studio work on hold while bassist Jason Newsted (ex-METALLICA) was treated for tendonitis.
In a recent interview with Billboard.com, Newsted spoke about the material slated to appear on the group's next CD. "It's the most complete demos I've ever been involved in," he said. "[VOIVOD singer] Snake has already chosen his effects — exact timing of milliseconds for delay. We've had a long time to develop the demos, so there's about 23 or 25 songs that are absolutely listenable right now."
VOIVOD will be issuing their first DVD in October covering the band's original lineup period (1983-1991). Scheduled for release on October 25 via Music Video Distributors, "DVOD-1" features all the '80s videos, plus rare live and studio performances of classic VOIVOD songs. The band are also tentatively planning on releasing two more DVDs during the coming months. "DVOD-2" will contain footage shot during the Eric Forrest era of the band, while "DVOD-3" will cover the band's most recent lineup, including Newsted (a.k.a. Jasonic).
This past spring, D'Amour laid down guitar tracks for a reunion CD from the legendary AUT'CHOSE, a '70s band from Montreal. That album, "Chansons D'épouvante", was released in May via Disques Artic.
Heathen Post Entire New Demo For Download
Reunited San Francisco Bay Area thrashers HEATHEN have made their entire new demo available for free download at this location. The tracks featured on the demo are "Empty Nothingness", "Dying Season" and "Arrows of Agony".
Despite the fact that HEATHEN guitarist Lee Altus was recently named an official member of EXODUS (replacing Rick Hunolt), there are no plans for HEATHEN to disband. "I didn't quit and HEATHEN is NOT breaking up!" Altus wrote in a recent online posting. "In fact, we just finished the three song pre-production demo that we'll be sending to record companies."
HEATHEN released their latest CD, "Recovered", independently in the spring of 2004. The effort featured covers of songs from QUEEN, THIN LIZZY, TYGERS OF PAN TANG and SWEET SAVAGE, as well as an original track, "In Memory of…" (written and dedicated to former band member Randy Laird and singer David White's brother Jeffrey).
Dillinger Escape Plan Cancels Gigantour Shows
THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN have been forced to pull out of their remaining Gigantour live dates because of an injury to guitarist Ben Weinman. Weinman severely re-injured his arm Sunday night (having originally injured it several months ago) during the tour's stop in Atlantic City, NJ and was told by a specialist yesterday that he will be unable to perform until further notice.
Weinman commented, "We were enjoying playing every night as part of Gigantour, and to not be able to finish the tour is an enormous disappointment to us."
Gigantour is the traveling hard rock festival founded by MEGADETH frontman Dave Mustaine. Mustaine — who suffered a nearly career-ending arm injury several years ago — said, "We really respect and enjoyed THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN — and will miss them. Meanwhile, I personally hope that Ben has a successful and speedy recovery."
Sharon Osbourne Talks About Egging Iron Maiden
Sharon Osbourne spoke exclusively to Kerrang! magazine last week regading IRON MAIDEN's final performance on this year's Ozzfest tour, during which she cut MAIDEN's power and arranged to have the band pelted with eggs and debris from the crowd. A couple of excerpts from the interview follow:
Kerrang!: Reading between the lines of [IRON MAIDEN manager] Rod Smallwood's statement, the unspoken suggestion is that you orchestrated this whole thing...
Sharon Osbourne: "Of course I did. I had the PA turned on and off. And look it's not hard for someone to walk into a diehard Ozzfest crowd and say, 'Who wants to throw an egg at a rock star?' Who wouldn't wanna do that? I went out and bought 50 eggs and me and my daughter had a fucking blast. C'mon, it's rock 'n' roll. No-one died. They'll be waiting a long fucking time for an apology from me."
Kerrang!: The most astonishing thing about all this is that the metal world has always had such camaraderie, such a "one for all, all for one" attitude...
Sharon Osbourne: "It has, right? But for some reason Bruce Dickinson [IRON MAIDEN singer] seemed to view it as a battle of the bands. He'd stand up on that stage and say that this wasn't the Ozzfest anymore, it was MAIDEN-fest. How fucking disrespectful is that? He's got such an '80s mentality. He's up there saying, 'Fuck MTV and fuck radio and you wouldn't catch IRON MAIDEN doing a reality show' and it's like, 'Hang on, you're a shareholder in Sanctuary, which is one of the biggest corporations in the music business.' He's never said a word about SABBATH either, only Ozzy, so it's personal. We've had 220 bands play this tour over the last 10 years and I've never felt the need to egg anyone."
Kerrang!: Up to this point you’re being painted as the "Wicked Witch" here, Sharon...
Sharon Osbourne: "I'm as nice as can be to people until they fuck with me and my family. I've always said that. I'm surprised that after everything that's been reported about how protective I am of my husband that anyone would even be shocked by this."
Kerrang!: Saying things like this could make this run and run...
Sharon Osbourne: "Not for me. We have Ozzfest shows to do so I'm not thinking about this anymore. Bruce Dickhead doesn't exist to me anymore."
Sharon Osbourne's entire interview with Kerrang! can be found in the magazine's latest issue, out on the stands tomorrow (August 31).

Voivod Drummer On Piggy's Passing
VOIVOD drummer Michel "Away" Langevin has issued the following statement regarding the passing of VOIVOD guitarist Denis "Piggy" D'Amour:
"Last week has been very tough on me, as I spent it at the hospital with Denis. We had been musical partners since 1979 in high school, and it will be a hard task for me to cope with his departure.
"I would like to thank: All the Voivodians who sent kind words via email; Julie (the angel) for taking care of Denis the past few months; the D'Amour family, for their strength; Jason and Snake, always the ones to bring a smile on Piggy's face; Gilles Gravel, Denis' oldest friend, for the contructive thoughts and positive presence in the hospital room; my friends from AUT'CHOSE, for respecting my inner suffering at Saturday's show in Quebec City; The End, for believing in us. Thanks also to Trish, Annie, James and Yuri for the eternal support. My apologies to the ones I'm forgetting right now.
"Staring at Mars after the show, I couldn't stop thinking that Piggy is now achieving an old dream of ours: touring the Universe!
"Adieu Denis, mon ami..."
