Well well, all I have to say is what the f***. I really do believe that slipknot sold out to getting money. In the past year all they have done was find ways to make money off of something. Plus their new album Vol.3 really sucked. To me sounded like they are trying to get into the rock scene. Like green day and other bull sh** bands like that. Slipknot have sold out plan and simple!!!! IT's ABOUT THE MUSIC YOU MAKE NOT THE sh** YOU SELL!!!!

I recall reading an interview with a famous front man who told one of the bands on his label to get out and tour as quickly as possible to sell your merchandise, because that is how you earn your paycheck. Just sitting in a studio, producing an album and "keeping it real" does not pay the bills for any band, big or small. Selling out does not mean you sell your own "stuff", rather that you actually change your music to suit the sales, eg. Sugar Ray, Green Day, Goo Goo Dolls, etc.

well i tell ya, its kind of dumb to sell the masks, cuz if you took time to make one in tribute to slipknot, it showed that you were a true member of the maggot corps, not just some poser metalhead that got into them after vol. 3. i made a few myself, like Mick's, James's and Paul's. those things take some serious dedication to complete but i was happy to do it cuz i think those guys rule and really llke to show that. Selling the masks also takes away that certain mystique that the guys have, because those masks were the only ones in creation and they created those masks specifically because thats what the guys thought they looked like inside. So now you have thousands of copies of the same guys walking around. I'm not saying that Slipknot has sold out, i'm just annoyed that they would give out their masks like that.

This is what i have to say. I like slipknot. Not a major fan but i like them. i personally prefer black metal Dimmu, COF, Satyricon, Burzum just to name a few. But i don't understand something. As soon as a band starts from the bottom they gain respect as slipknot did. As soon as they get popular like all of their fans and other metalheads want them to. These fans all of a sudden turn on them. What the hell man. I never thought being a metalhead could be so f***ing complicated. Has slipknot said bad sh** about their fans like mettalica? No. Thats selling out. Coming out on tv and saying that if you don't buy our album, not matter how poor you might be and you burn it. you are sh**. Thats practically what mettalica said. hmm. Has slipknot done anything like that? What about all of these other bands that have done that? Lets not forget that aerosmith actually had a clothing line in the late 80's. I bet some of you did not know much about that. When joe perry came back? Does that ring a bell? I'm only 20 and i know that. Were they considered sellouts? No. Some people really need to think about what a sellout really is. I mean sh**. If I was in slipknot and a fan came up to me and said. Well i think you guys should make some shoes. Many of us would like them. I'd make those damn shoes. Same with the masks. It makes the fans happy. Then when it comes to their music changing every album so far. They said from the beginning that they were going to do that. So that should let you know that some of you were not paying attention. What band has not changed their music. You check out Hell awaits from slayer and then you listen to south of heaven. They sound nothing alike. Did they sellout? Pantera, vulgar display of power then the great souther trend kill. Sound hardly anything alike. So do you people really know what a sellout is? Plus any band that zakk wylde, kerry king, tom arraya, phil anselmo, the late dimebag darrell like must be a pretty f***ing good band. Later b****es i'm f***ing out.

Changing your sound can be good, IF what you're changing sounds good. Slipknots change sucked mean A$$. And the shoes and masks are being made for the MONEY$$$$$ NOT THE FUKKIN fans. Thats just a cover 'cuz it sounds more "Nu-Meatl" than " I want more money, what can we do?" "I know, lets sell out!!"
GODDAM Nu-Metal Queers...............!!!!!!!

Ok kid. One of the main reasons people are disliking slipknot are because of fans like you. Alot of us can get past the music, and wait for the next album (those that are original slipknot fans). But the mall-goth you must be a fa**ot if you dont like the bands I do sh** makes me sick. You want people to RESPECT your band, but you offer rants like "STUPID FUKKIN FAGS I HATE YOU MOTHER FUKKERS GO TO FUKKIN HELL"
Really, if someone came up to you on the street and said that, you would think he/she was 12/retarded/trying out for jackass. Considering they dont really make jackass no more your either retarded or 12.
Which is it ?
ONTOP of that, When I attended the Subliminal Versus concert with SF and LOG. I had 2, count them 2 11 year olds sitting next to me, WITH THEIR GRANDMOTHER. they played on gameboys while SF and LOG was on stage, then they stood up for slipknot, and immediatly recognized Prelude 3.0 follow by that was The Heretic Anthem, which they couldnt even sing along with. So they sat down. The next 2 times they stood was for Duality, and Vermillion. They played 7 songs after Vermillion, but the kids left when that was over.
To Top that off infront of me was a pair of 16 year old mall goths. Again played on Cell phones not gameboys during the LOG and SF sets. Didnt even move when Randy Blythe asked if there were maggots in the audience. Following that, they erupted for Prelude and sung along. Then again the Heretic Anthem. I watched the male mall goth turn to the female and ask what album this was off of. She said I think Ohio.
And thus the reason people have 0 f***in respect for you, and the breed of fans so errily similar to you, it makes us sick.

Post 19 said it all for me. But the thing is that those same ignorant mallcore assmunchies, have the nerve to judge other people, Going on a rampage talking about how much of a p*ssy that I am because I cant stand Slipknot and that I'm wearing other colors besides black. Yet, the only reason why i would have checked that recent tour out is because of SF! SF is such a better band than slipknot, if only they could have had a better band to our with.

SF is good but they aren't as good as Slipknot. Just because Slipknot are tryin to make a buck doesn't mean that their sellin out. Seriously people get a f***in dictionary and look sh** like this up. And I bet that nobody on this site can say that if they had a band as big as Slipknot that they wouldn't sell merchandise like clothes or other stuff like that. Pantera did merchandising but nobody ever said that they sold out. And I agree about the mall metalers. They don't deserve to listen to slipknot if they don't listen to anything except Vol.3. What about Iowa, MFKR,or the self-titled cd!

"SF is good but they aren't as good as Slipknot. Just because Slipknot are tryin to make a buck doesn't mean that their sellin out."
I just had to copy and paste that it made me giggle.
Shadows Fall are twice the musicians that Slipknot are (Jordison aside)....Theres some classical training in ShadowsFall that Slipknot just lack. Any fan of both bands who plays an instrument knows what I am talking about. Now that tidbit aside I think both band are extremely good at what they do, and both have my respect for being the touring juggernauts that they are.
And yes Slipknot wanting to make a buck so to speak, does equate to selling out (to some degree) but most great bands sellout to some measure to be heard by larger audiances ("sold my soul for rock and roll" anyone?) it how the industry (indie labels and majors both) operate. I have hard time blaming Slipknot for having acquired the types of fans Negatyve_one is so rightly disgusted with...They are the same lot as fickle boy-band fans.....It's just how the gears spin, the world catches on to bands once kept secret, makes a trend of it for awhile and then makes fun of the trend for a lifetime.
This ladies and gents is our culture.
24. writes:
Alright I have to admit that SF are better musicians than Slipknot(Jordison aside) but Slipknot has a sound that not many bands can replicat. I don't really count selling clothes and stuff like that as sellin out as much as I count changing your sound to go mainstream. Its not like Slipknot isn't remaining true to their core fans or is telling them to f*** off or anything like that. Their are just sellin stuff that is in demand by their core fans that aren't as artistic and don't know how to replicat the masks. Almost every band that has a major record label sells clothes with the bands name or one the bands albums artwork on the front of it.
25. writes:
Agreed, I dont think any band could replicate Slipknot. Theres some demented minds at work in that group and they have a knack for atmospherics.
As for the sh** they sell outside the music, any band with the income of Slipknot (or greater) is going to push more diverse merch and a greater amount of it.
26. writes:
Im not even remotly knocking slipknot for selling a ton of merch. Alot of people are just trying to shove sellout down everyones throat because of the last album, and anything that resembles corporation.
If I was in a band with that kindve following, I would so take advantage of it. Its not like slipknot will be around forever and they are mostly young, Social Security doesnt come until 65. Theres no way they can make it on royalties, which is why they have reunoin tours and what not.

27. writes:
dude all u f***ers who dont know anything about metal or music for that matter are full of s*** i mean just cuzz slipknots sound changed dosent mean they sold out. dont u wont a band that can go from pink floyd to slayer in a heart beat. yeah they made some slow songs but now they can go from that right in to Heretic Anthem., or wait and bleed. They even said them selves their not going to do what everone thinks their going to do. and did u even hear the solos in Pulse of the Maggots, and the Blister Exists.

I will say again. Pantera changed their sound. Slayer changed their sound. Black Sabbath changed their sound. You can listen to black label society over the years and you can notice a bit of a change. Then Pantera sold a lot more merch than slipknot. So did slayer at one point. Lets not even get on the big time black metal bands in europe. Their sh** sells like hotcakes. So its not selling out. Its making money. Metallica---f*** those fans if they don't buy our albums and they burn them=SELL OUT. Slipknots not may favorite band. I want to throw that out there right now.. But i'm 100% for what they are doing. All of you in this room. If your favorite band had the success they have at the time you would hope and do the same thing. And to these mall rockers. Shut the f*** up. You hear one album and you know everything about them? I went to ozzfest last year and i encountered the same thing. WOW they are playing duality. Then they played spit it out and these mallys did not know what the hell was going on. They thought it was a new f***ing song. Its like i'm an extremly big dimmu borgir fan. When i saw them last year at ozzfest people only knew about one song. But they were suppose to be the biggest fans. That song was progencies of the great apoc. Can't spell that word. Forgive me. But i even sat and talked to one of them. They were asking me about every single song that was played. And then slayer comes on the stage. Oh i love slayer. I have all of their albums. then i have to hear hey. whats that song. Never heard war ensemble. I hate mall rockers. You b****es don't know sh**. I would not mind any of you if you just admitted that you liked metal but you don't know a lot of things. I could take that. But to act like you know everything about the band and then complain about them playing songs you don't know about. that bothers the hell out of me. You b****es need to burn in 666 f***ing hells. f*** MALL ROCKERS. And just because i'm mad f*** punk a$$ good charlotte as well. And thats from the heart b****es.

Well said Mr_Metal. My thoughts exactly. I hate it whenever someone asks me what I'm listening to(Pantera,Metallica,Slipknot,In Flames,SF, or Slayer) and they ask if its the new album(St.Anger, Vol.3, or an album that sucks) and then they say that the album that sucks is better than the one I'm listening to.

31. writes:
the funniest thing about the shadows fall vs. slipknot argument for like 10 posts was that no one really mentioned LoG, who blows both those bands out of the water.
and while it is true that most bands change their sound at some point (due to artistic progression), slipknot's change was so drastic that no real metal fan could say that it was a solid metal album. its a mediocre hard rock album at best, barely metal.

People need to get over Slipknot's s/t and Iowa albums. They are 2 of the most overrated pieces of sh** ever.NO MELODY, NO MUSICIANSHIP, POOR SONGWRITING, Just anger.Pure anger. Each one is just an hour long temper tanturm.
Vol.3 was a HUGE step in improving on all of the above. For once they showed that they can actually write a good catchy tune.
Sure, the songs are much more "accessible", but that doesnt automatically make it a sell out album.Slipknot put all animosity aside, lived in a house together for 6 months, and expiremented will all sorts of directions and ideas for this album. How would that make them sell outs?It seems that they did the opposite.
I cant stomach half of s/t, and the whole Iowa cd.I absolutely adore Vol.3 from top to bottom.MFKR too.MFKR is one of the quirkiest most original albums I've ever heard. It's a complete shame they gave that up for bland nu metal.
Maggots are basically, apes.Slipknot are completely aware of this. They are capitalizing on it big time by coming out with all this stupid merch.I tip my hat off to them for being smart enough to do so.

33. writes:
i don't even have to make fun of you because your post was idiotic enough. you are probably not a real metal fan if you apprecate pop-formatted garbage hard rock to the heavier and yes, more angry, albums from slipknot. you like to hear the "catchy" poppy tunes that play on the radio every 3 minutes. iowa got almost no radio play because it was a good attempt at some raw metal. vol. 3 is glossed over and sounds like plastic barbie metal.

As I have read every one of the previous postings citing many a reason for calling several bands "sellouts", I haven't seen this. Does anybody remember when there was no metal on radio? I may be dating myself, but here in Orlando, I remember what a big deal when Metallica's "One' made it onto regular rotation. I am by no means giving them any credit for anything here. Just saying that at some point radio changed, allowing more access for more bands with a more diverse sound. Currently in Orlando, you can dial up the local rock station and hear everything from emo to rap metal, nu metal, to old school pantera. There was a time that did not happen. Point is, media changed, to allow all of what has been discussed here to happen for the fans. There are true sellouts out there, but radio is responsible for the 11 year olds wanting the newest flavor of Slipknot, not the band. Headbangers Ball was great in its infancy, it was what metal of the time needed, a little mainstream for an "underground" scene. Now, since it is back on, it does the same thing, but with more and more exposure, bands get off that show onto more traditional rotation, and eventually to the "mall goths" ( i love that term) Don't blame all the bands for this, times have changed, media changed, hell, eve the country changed. We are all more accepting of more things to be broadcast over the waves than ever before.

To post 33.
Personally I listen to some of the most extreme metal you can get.Easily heavier and "angrier" than those piece of sh** Slipknot albums you so love. But my tastes arent limited to just death metal, I listen to various other types of music aswell. Is that a crime?
I prefer Vol.3 over the previous 2 disks for the fact that it is just all around a much better album.I dont give a f*** if it isn't as heavy or as angry, musically it goes above and beyond s/t and Iowa.Thats what I care about, MUSIC.Not anger or whiny lyrics.
Iowa didnt get air play mainly because it sucked. It was such an unfocused and scrappy album. The concept of it was "Lets play crappy power chords with a temper tantrum over them. Then we'll throw in a cheesy catch phrase like "If you're 555 then I'm 666" or "People=sh** People=sh**" so then the savy listener feels like he "crazy" for listening to such music."That album is such a big piece of sh**.I can't believe it got such a positive reaction.
BTW, The Left Behind video was getting regular airplay on MTV(MTV 1.I dont remember ever seeing Duality on MTV 1.It only got played on MTV 2.Go figure.) weeks before the whole Sept.11 thing happened. It was even getting a decent amount of radio play.Once that whole thing happened, the video was pulled and radio stations stopped playing Iowa.If you notice, both singles that album were mildly heavy tunes at best. Both were released with the intent of having radio play.Infact, the single version of My Plague was redone without the cursing and the screaming was toned down.Just for airplay. What sell outs huh?
37. writes:
Alright. Let me sort this out. First thing is first. Many people have a differnet opinion of what real metal is. And depending on who you ask it can be anything from 80's thrash(Pantera, Slayer, Metallica, Testament, Megadeth) to death metal.
Second:
Personally I love all of Slipknots albums(MFKR included). I really like s/t because of the writting that Corey did for that album and the way that lyrics really flow with the songs that they got to. (ex. You can't see California without Marlon Brando's eyes). Iowa I like just because of the sheer heavyness of the album. It just sounds so p***ed of and angry at everything and everyone and in making that album they were kinda givin a big middle finger and saying f*** you to all of the industry. Iowa didn't need airplay cause it was such a great album. Vol.3 I like becasue James and Mic both took their guitar playing to a whole new level. And Corey also laid down some great vocals.
39. writes:
I dont "love" the first two albums. You had better just watch what the hell you say. MFKR was a raw and uncut sound. Baring alot of resemblance to Iowa. But ill guess not only do you not have the album, but youve only listened to a few tracks off the internet.
If you would like to hear the original copy let me know. And Corey DOES NOT do vocals on MFKR Anders Colfinsi (sp) did.
Which proves your dousheness level is way higher then others.
40. writes:
First off i never said that Corey did the vocals on MFKR you dumbass. Amd yes I do have the album so the only person that doesn't know what their talkin about here is YOU. oh and you prove my point that you are a dumbass even further because you spell douche with a c not an s.

41. writes:
My comment wasn't directed towards you.
MFKR has absolutely NO resemblance to Iowa.None whatsoever.Although it does have 2 songs that were later remade for the Iowa album, which were turned to pure sh**.On one hand you have MFKR with it's quirkiness, it's diversity, it's originality, and it's awesome basslines. Then you have Iowa, baring none of that.So how are they similar?
42. writes:
grrr.
How did we get to ths point?.....
Anyone who has honestly followed metal ( I'm not talking about "YOUR" favortie matal bands but metal in the broad sense.) knows that Slipknot came up with something intersting that even bordered on genre twisting.....And yes theres more compelling bands with the term "revolutionary" tied into their history ("Sabbath," "Death," "Tool," "Slayer," "Opeth," "Emperor," "Metallica" yeah I know theres like 19 other bands of equal or greater importance, etc) but it's often the average Joes who alter history in the publicly acknowledged aspect of music and Slipknot made metal more punishing for the people whose idea of metal was defined somewhere between Metallicas "Reload" and Trapts debut album.

44. writes:
this whole page is dedicated to slipknot. everyone who doesnt like slipknot, leave and keep your opinions to yourself. SOME of you who call yourselves "true maggots" are in fact not. a true maggot would stick with slipknot through their era's and not put them down for albums such as Vol.3. if your a REAL maggot, you would see every member in slipknot as an equal. and not favour one perticular member. yes, some of their albums may of been better than others, but bands change, if your not doing something new, your dying, and thats not good. slipknot would be stupid not to do anything BUT change. so sort it out
