Man Beaten At Family Values Concert In Critical Condition

A 30-year-old man who was beaten in the mosh pit at the Family Values show at Atlanta's Hi-Fi Buys Amphitheater on Sunday night is hospitalized and on life support after being declared brain dead. According to Atlanta's WSB-TV, 30-year-old Andy Richardson is in critical condition following the fight, during which two unidentified men attacked him in the mosh pit after Richardson asked the men to be careful not to hurt his pregnant girlfriend and a mentally challenged child they had with them.
"Can you imagine your child goes to a concert and be killed for it, because of people out there fighting to have a quote unquote good time?" Richardson's mom, Gloria told the station. "And I'm angry. I'm very angry. Why were the police not there to stop them?"
A friend of Richardson's who attended the Korn-headlined show with him, Edgar Arellano, said the fight broke out after Richardson asked the men to be careful, but it ended soon after that and the men left the area. "We were all enjoying the concert, we were having a good time, until these two guys came around," Arellano said, adding that the men showed up again and one of them punched Richardson in the head, knocking him head first onto the concrete.
"He was unconscious. He had blood all over his face when I picked him up," Arellano said.
WSB-TV reported that homicide investigators are looking into the beating, but have only a vague description of the suspects. A spokesperson for the Atlanta Police Department could not be reached for comment at press time. A spokesperson for the amphitheater could not be reached for comment.
Richardson's mother said her son is brain dead and on life support and is not expected to live.

WTF 6silent6gurl6? Why can't someone at least go to a concert? Being pregnant shouldn't stop you from enjoying a concert, but being in a mosh pit is stupid for her to do that. And this does piss me off. At a concert if there's a little conflict or something you should be able to just let it pass and move on. The f***ers coming back makes it even worse! If all the guy did was say watch out or something why the hell would they come back and pretty much kill him? This is stupid as hell. I know that it says it's the Korn-headlined show but who was actually playing at that time? This is ridiculous. When I go to concerts I don't expect anything but to a little tired afterwards. I don't try to start sh** because everyone is there just to enjoy the concert and get there moneys worth.

A pit can break out anywhere though, so whose to say he wasnt in a decent spot. Any man should be able to enjoy a concert with his wife and son, regardless the situation.
@ HifiBuys the pits mostly break out on the lawn. All are welcome at a metal show as far as I'm concerned, but you have to know where you can and can't be due to physical restraints. The best thing to do if you're worried about a pregnant woman/handicapped child is to get them away from the pit. The guys that hit him need to sit in Ga.'s chair for the attack though, because there was no excuse for essentially killing him for asking they not hit his girlfriend/kid. I've seen all ages in and around pits, and the crowd usually police themselves at the better shows, but I guess the "We're all here for a good time mentality" has long since vanished, and that's sad.

i agree with vayne theories a man should be able to enjoy a concert with his son and GF .... just cause the child is metally challenged does'nt mean he does'nt like music or handle himself in the pit, but as for the pregnant woman that's a bad idea .... but it does'nt mean the guy deserves to be beaten within an inch of his life.
I was at the fianl night of unholy alliance and I agree that first of all this guy should have not been on the floor but if someone was actually trying to hurt someone at that slayer show and they would have been f***ing destroyed.

Bottom line is this could have happened anywhere. No matter where you go there are people that have absolutely no respect for others. This isn't about what band was playing or whether or not this guy should have been there with a pregnant woman and mentally challenged kid. This is about these two idiots having no respect for anyone or any damn sense in their head. People don't understand how much damage a single punch or knock to the head can do. A co-workers husband almost died when he hit his head while playing with his kids. He didn't think anything of it, went about his business, later that night he had to have emergency surgery to aleviate the pressure on his brain. He fractured his skull and didn't know it, in fact didn't even remember hitting his head at all. People need to think before throwing even one punch at someone, it could go on to ruin numerous lives.

I've been a bouncer for a long time I've worked small show's in night club's & big show's at arena's.I've even worked closely with body guard's for major recording artist's.The point is everytime I think I've seen it all I become aware of something else that tops it all.
This is INEXCUSABLE !!! So what he was down at the pit with some other peoplev who should not have been anywhier near it.That does not make what those bastard's did right.sh** like this is why some cities don't get the major show's and festivals.Not because nobody want's them.But because the major venues & promoter's don't want to take out the extra liability insurance.That's assumeing the city or county in question has not put a ban on shows of this size in the 1st place.

It is a disgraceful example of the cesspool our scene and society have degenerated into. This poor guy thinking he can bring his family to a concert and enjoy it, and expecting others at the show to have any decent sense of values or respect for others. That is the irony. Family Values Tour?
I have been around the punk, metal, and hardcore scenes since the 1980s. As a woman, I would definitely NOT go to a show pregnant. If I did, like if I absolutely HAD to see the band (like if IMMORTAL had played in my pathetic town 6 years ago and I knew I’d never see them again or if MINOR THREAT magically got back together), I would not go ANYWHERE near the pit. It is common sense. Live near the pit, and live dangerously. Especially if you are female. Even with the slow progression towards male acceptance of our presence and participation in the pit (meager as it may be in some towns/scenes), for women it is still a dangerous place to be unless you are there with a group of LARGE, experienced, and attentive males to watch your back.
However, that does not mean that these F***S should have been allowed to walk out of there. If not the bouncers, then someone in the crowd with any balls or sense of decency should have stepped in. Over the last 15 years I have seen a definite decline in the sense of community and camaraderie at shows. I have been to them all: punk, blackmetal, deathmetal, hardcore, rock, grunge, you name it. These young, ignorant, arrogant males want to prove their “toughness” and “coolness” by acting like a**holes and jumping into the pit and trying to hurt people, not paying any heed to the traditional behavior that we as an audience and participants in the pit are expected to exhibit at shows. They are not there to see the band; they are there to be seen. These are the scumbags who need to be tossed out on their behinds and have them royally whooped on. We must police ourselves both as individuals and as a group of music fans. We must look out for each other.
And yes, there is at least one jerk at every show, but I have noticed that it also depends on the kind of show. At hardcore shows, people generally know how to act and have a sense of community. At a KORN show, does anyone even care? Beliefs and values are a part of the music and the scene. What values does KORN endorse and promote?
When Social Distortion was here many years ago, I witnessed a phenomenon that has unfortunately become scare among the bands of today. Some nazi skin was picking fights and starting shyte down on the floor. Mike Ness stopped the show and told the guy he was going to jump down off the stage into the crowd and kick the guy’s arse if he didn’t get the f*** out. He told security to come get him and throw him out. And they did. This is the kind of attention that some performers still pay when they play. They care about what is going on around them. They care about their fans.
I bet Jonathan Davis is too busy whining and prancing around in his Matrix outfit to notice what’s going on in the audience. Or maybe he can’t be bothered to take his eyes off the porno flick in the dressing room long enough to go scope out the crowd. Either way, the selfishness, self-centeredness, and lack of regard for anyone else is becoming more prevalent at every concert. And these are the kinds of things that are inexcusable. Don’t be a chickens**t, go get a bouncer. Call security if you can’t handle it yourself. You just may save someone’s life. Maybe even your own. It’s a shame no one could do it for this guy. The only ones who deserved to get beaten to death are the two c***s****rs who killed him. I hope they rot in prison.

That's what I was trying to say earlier, Amy. I know when I saw Slayer in the early 90's there were Nazis there trying to start trouble, but every time one did, there were three or four guys on them, beating on them and pushing them towards security and the door. We the Metal Community don't need this schite. Rapes and killings at concerts is rediculous(sp?) and will only serve to draw more negative attention to mostly law abiding people that just don't like the crap radio and MTV tries to cram down our throats. And even though this started with a pit supposedly, it really has nothing to do with the pit. Every pit I've ever been in there has been people picking others up, helping others out and generally had an air of celebration. It's getting away form that, and that is something that needs to stop. It has to do with like me and Amy said- a lack of community and a lack of respect for others.

It's funny, because the other night, around my town, kids (one which I had gone to school with) beat an old man to death for telling them to stop driving their bikes on his newly paved driveway. Which is purely pathetic.
Personally, I don't think jail is quite hard enough, nor death. If the punishment were up to me, for a crime so juvenile, it'd be mutilation- you screwed up, and now you get to live the rest of your lives without your legs. To kill a man with a mentally child is hard enough- but his girlfriend is pregnant with their second child. How is she to raise both of them, and who will want anything to do with a woman who has two children already, one being mentally challenged?

What I want to know is why didn't this guy's friend Edgar Arellano, why didn't he do anything about it? He was there, he picked his friend up off the floor.. yet he didn't do anything about the 2 guys. He didn't help his friend, he didn't go after the 2 guys. Why are you guys trashing his friend? From the sound of it, it happened pretty fast, and when his friend hit the floor, he probably was more concerned about him than chasing down the men who hit him. Duh. Everyone is trying to pass the blame around, and the fact remains that the only people guilty are the fcktards who hit him! If you should blame anyone else, it should be the security at the show and the arena for not having enough security, or placed security correctly. Someone in a SECURITY outfit should have noticed the commotion and been able to apprehend them. But they obviously didn't have enough, or they were not paying attention or doing their jobs. My guess is that with all the violence this summer between FVT and Ozzfest, that all shows will beef up their security in the future. As for saying they were in the PIT, if you read the other articles, it says that they were SITTING >;>; which indicates they were not in the pit.

also, though cuts, bruises and fights are common at metal shows (practically guaranteed) someone getting killed or even seriously injured is extremely rare. you can get away with something 99 times, but the 100th time could kill you. its called odds and probability. and short people mosh like everyone else, f*** anyone could get hurt you dumb b****, but most people have the common sense and descency to not smoke crack, down kegs, and mosh while their pregnant.

Hey korndogg....I was in a bar in Indianaplois many many years ago..called Backstage.(the place was f@#$@in huge...had indoor volleyball courts and a massive room of pooltables etc.....is that place still around.?..seen a local band called Claude B. ( ever heard of them..?..WOW was the guitarist phenomenal...they did Satriani songs and did them well.....
So then its time to make her learn some new tricks... I never get bored of letting the old lady earn her keep.( but most times that only takes a matter of minutes.)..hahaha.... anyway, I know what its like to spend ALOT of time bored to death... the nearest actual city is over an hour away....then what do ya do...spend money..and that is hard to do anymore...gas is spendy..resturants are expensive..!!!! Its a cruel world we live in...

Umm, it's growing increasingly. There's places that look exactly like what you've seen in documentaries on Sabbath and Maiden but there's also some places that look really nice but then again there's places that look like Eastern Europe you know? Really old run down houses and sh**. You definitely gotta see London 'cause there's so much to do but there's some places (Swindon included) that really aren't worth bothering with unless you're interested in trains and indusry.

Hey man (Red Chord) Canada has produced some killer bands over the years....I am a bit older so I remember the "old stuff" like Rush and Triumph and Max Webster..now that was some good ol a$$ kickin R&R...not meaning that todays music sucks...but it seemed that R&R from the 70s and 80s wasnt as angry as this new metal...( plus they all had cool guitar solos...there isnt ALOT of those in metal nowadays)
and yes I will call it NEW metal..cause it is....I was around when the NWOBHM came about...Iron Maiden,Def Leppard,Saxon,Tygers of Pan Tang,Motorhead etc......todays music sounds SO much different..but if it wasnt for Sabbath and Zeppelin none of this stuff would even be around....and I personally think that ALOT of the younger metalheads dont have a clue where it all came from....
Ok so enough of the rant...I am a huge metal fan....My all time favorite has to be Zeppelin..after that its all lumped together...I love Pantera, BLS,Mudvayne,Disturbed,COC...and on and on....if it has a guitar,bass and drums and isnt Jazz or Country than its ok in my book....some of you out there may not agree..but I am assuming this isnt a popularity contest....besides I see that I am the new guy on the block(posting comments...) So I wanted to tell y'all a bit about me..... and there you have it..... I love talking music...so if you guys could point me in the right direction to chat a little more...let me know....

You guys should check out the last Voivod album, Katorz (it's their fourteenth album, so Katorz means 14 but in french Canadianm although it's not the corretc spelling, which makes it cool). It's for sure their last album forever so don't miss out on that one folks.

Well, Celine should probably go to Lebanon and do the peacekeeping. None of the two sides will get close to her and her music so we are safe forever. As for Voivod, since Piggy is dead, well I don't think they will go on. Jasonic said that he doesn't think that they can replace him so....it's over. I think is irreplacable. So what do you guys think of the new Unearth, new Bury Your Dead...
i havent heard too much of bury your dead, and what i have heard i didnt find spectacular. on the other hand, i love unearth. those guys are going to make it big time in the underground. and Diamond Oz, i never forgot about voivod, i just didnt know that they were from canada. voivod kicks ass. red_chord--idk, the band may be through with the passing of piggy, but look how much material 2pac released since his death. i wouldnt be surprised if they still put out those other songs in either a full length, comp, or hidden treasures type format. well, i hope they release all of their unreleased stuff, no matter how goofy it is.

Well, you're right, Bury Your Dead are not spectacular, they are super brutal, and I love it. As for Unearth, the new album is amazing and in concert, they are unbelievable. For Voivod, I don't know of Piggy wrote a lot of material before dying, but as far as shows go, it won't really happen. And for 2pac, let me just say that well, it just takes a computer for rap music so you can make a dead guy rap anyways, I have no recpect at all for rap music...NONE.

w/ a pregnant wife and a mentally handicapped child, this guy should've been no where near the pit where accidents tend to happen all the time. that said, this is total bullsh**. those f***ing nu metal morons that did this deserve to be caught and tried for this atrocity. this is what gives metal a bad name. the pit is not a f***in fight club. you go down on the dancefloor and do your thing and that is that. you go to a much more brutal show, a death metal show, or a serious hardcore show (ie converge, or a suffocation show) and you dont see this bullsh**. you knock someone down, you help them up and have a good time, not prove your f***in manhood by brutalizing someone, especially when it is unprovoked. this article makes me sick and i hope the two p***ies that did this get caught and beaten themselves. all true metal fans should be upset by something like this. there is no reason for it. whether you are a band member or part of the audience, you should be able to go to a show without worrying about whether your gonna make it home or not.
