No Guns 'N' Roses Reunion To Celebrate Debut
Former GUNS N' ROSES members Izzy Stradlin (guitar) and Duff McKagan (bass) joined ex-GN'R drummer Steven Adler and his ADLER'S APPETITE band for a couple of "Appetite for Destruction" numbers during ADLER'S APPETITE's headlining appearance at the Key Club in West Hollywood, California Saturday night (July 28). Although Slash did make it to the venue earlier in the night and had every intention of playing with Adler, something reportedly came up that forced him to leave before he could go up on stage and jam with the other guys. As expected, GUNS N' ROSES' lead singer Axl Rose was a no-show at the event , which was meant to celebrate the 20th anniversary of GN'R's classic debut.
Although Rose did not make an appearance at the Key Club gig, Adler recently told GuitarWorld.com that a full reunion will eventually happen. "Axl and I spoke to each other in Las Vegas recently, and I know there's a chance," he said. "It's just too big."
"Whatever the STONES make when they play, we'd triple it. It'd be ridiculous not to do it. He can't be that goofy."
As previously reported, Rolling Stone magazine will honor the twentieth anniversary of "Appetite for Destruction" by looking back at the sex, drugs and Aqua Net that went into the making of GUNS N' ROSES' legendary debut. Click here for an excerpt of Brian Hiatt's cover story, and here for a photo gallery that catches Axl Rose, Slash, Izzy Stradlin, Duff McKagan and Steven Adler behind the scenes throughout their late-'80s/early-'90s heyday.

The track, "Praying For Asteroids," is available alongside "Egocide," another track from Transmutations on the band's MySpace page.

Currently available as a pre-order shipping immediately here, Yakuza will play a record release show in the band's hometown August 11.

October File Release "Holy Armour...", Preview Up
October File finally released their long awaited and, in some quarters, highly anticipated second album. Candlelight Records has issued the following press release:
"A raging assault on the senses from start to finish - with Jaz Coleman from Killing Joke adding his dulcet tones.
Musically, October File deliver an even heavier and more direct approach than the highly rated last EP. Dark, aggressive, angular and downright angry are the closest descriptions.
Lyrically the band have the balls to say what’s on their mind, subjects such as climate change, war, corruption and religion all get the treatment, some more than others. “Religion?” for instance deals with the fact that maybe most religions outlook that we should all have to bow to some imaginary god or get beheaded just really isn’t on… the band also cover murder for amusement, rape, human disappointment and day to day drudgery in equally eloquent terms… songs about girls, having fun and how cool summer is just didn’t make the album…
"Holy Armour From The Jaws Of God" will be released 29th October through Candlelight records. To check out a few tracks, visit the band's official website.

Nachtmystium Back Catalog Re-issue On Candlelight
Nachtmystium have been dwelling within the U.S. black metal underground for a period of time in which this enigma have clearly spearheaded themselves as one of North America’s most prominent acts within the scene. Where in the beginning, we witnessed Nachtmystium portray a bleak sound-picture by incorporating the many facets that became synonymous with the brand of traditional, raw and primitive black metal that was surfacing from these shores, it was quite evident that the promise that such an act showed in its early stages, was just a mere warning of what was inevitably to come. Surely though, Nachtmystium have always shown their distinct histrionics on their interpretation on how they liked to portray their black metal art. Through morose and mournful hymns that displayed a scenario where sadness and hatred were the two dominating emotions that bled from band leader Azentrius’ instrument, this vision that he has conjured up many years ago, has reached it’s phoenix with the surfacing of the latest Nachtmystium observation, Instinct:Decay. With “outside” influences such as Pink Floyd (a prominent influential artist consistent within Nachtmystium's repertoire, Earth, and even Sunn0))) (an act with whom Nachtmystium have shared the stage), such influences that have been incorporated within the Nachtmystium sound have helped take this band’s sound to new levels and new perspectives respectively. Overall, Instinct:Decay will solidify Nachtmystium's position within the U.S. black metal elite alongside such black metal artists as Xasthur, Leviathan, Krieg, and Thralldom, artists with whom Nachtmystium share a comradeship, all while re-defining, and re-shaping, the future of black metal.

Within Temptation Prevail Over Slayer's Illusion
Within Temptation's "The Heart of Everything" sold 7,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 106 on The Billboard 200 chart. The Dutch female-fronted symphonic metal band's first U.S. release for Roadrunner Records, "The Heart of Everything" has also topped the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.
In contrast, Slayer's much-hyped re-release of the "Christ Illusion" album has failed to make a dent, having shifted a little over 2,300 copies since being reissued on July 24 through Columbia Records. This brings the total number of "Christ Illusion" copies sold in the U.S. to approximately 172,000.
Slayer's "Christ Illusion" reissue contains the previously unreleased cut "The Final Six", as well as an alternate version of "Black Serenade". It also boasts a bonus DVD called "Slayer on Tour '07" which includes the "Eyes of the Insane" video; a live rendition of the band's 1988 LP track "South of Heaven" that was shot in Vancouver, British Columbia, on last year's "Unholy Alliance" run; and a behind-the-scenes, five-minute documentary-style montage of footage shot earlier this year when the band performed in Florida and Australia.
Headline News
Threshold Singer Andrew McDermott Quits
Mac has confirmed that he's left Threshold. In a statement he told fans that he knew the timing was bad but thanked them for all their support. He also wished the band all the best and expressed his gratitude to the band's original singer Damian Wilson for standing in for him at last weekend's festivals.
Mac replaced Damian Wilson as Threshold's vocalist in 1998 and recorded five studio albums with the band as well as various live and fan club releases. He was previously lead singer for German band Sargant Fury who released three albums in the 1990's.
Threshold had confirmed that Damian Wilson would once again perform with them at the Subtacto Festival in Oslo, Norway on 4 August, however the Progfest has announced financial difficulties and has cancelled Threshold and Pendragon from the bill.
A statement posted on the Subtacto website explained that "The reason for this is that we as organisers don't have enough funds to see this through. We therefore have to reorganise the event, and that means that we can't afford those two bands."
Threshold are disappointed at the cancellation and expressed their sympathy to all their fans who bought tickets and were hoping to see them perform. The festival is offering full refunds to fans who no longer want to attend. Talks are also in progress to see if Wilson can perform at all of Threshold's remaining 2007 shows.
The band recently released their 8th album "Dead Reckoning" on March 23.

Thunderbolt Breaks Up
Paimon from Thunderbolt recently put the following message on the official band's website: "Thunderbolt is dead. There are different circumstances why we quit the band but we felt that's the only right decision and that's it. We'd like to say Hail! to all those who were with us through all these years (you know who you are!) and also a big FUCK OFF to our opponents! This chapter is closed but we'll still be active in this or another way... In Darkness..."
Isvind and Defixio Members Join Orcrist
Following the departure of three members from underground Black Metal band ORCRIST, their places were virtually immediately filled by Goblin from the Norwegian band ISVIND on vocals, and Mane from DEFIXIO on guitars and bass.
An Italian band with a long history of co-operating with Norwegian musicians, ORCRIST recently released a split 7” with BEASTCRAFT, and is currently collaborating with DESEKRATOR’s Tore Bratseth to release a split with the now legendary band OLD FUNERAL; a band which at various times included Varg Vikerness, Abbath and Demonaz amongst its ranks. Both releases are on the TEMPLE OF DARKNESS label.
Grav, drummer and founder member of ORCRIST had this to say; “I have always made it clear that I wanted Orcrist to remain underground and play real, old-school black metal, raw and dirty, and I believed that the rest of the band wanted that too. But you know how it is, the lure of possible fame and money is too much sometimes and I was being pressurised into producing something more “commercial”. It’s not what I do, and it’s not what I want to do, so I suggested to the others that they might want to play in a different band!"
“Shortly afterwards I was talking to Goblin who was going to do some guest vocals on our new album, and he immediately said he would be prepared to join. Not long after I was talking to Mane who said he would be more than happy to write and do the guitars and fill in on bass. Both are musicians who I greatly admire and for whom I have always had maximum respect, so what was a negative turned into a positive within hours”.
Songs from the split with BEASTCRAFT and other ORCRIST titles can be heard on the band’s MySpace page.
Galactic Cuntface Issues Update, Tour Dates
Galactic Cuntface has issued the following mock press release: "Australian progressive, break beat, death metal outfit Galactic Cuntface have just been named the greatest band of all time by John Stevens down the end of the street. Fans the world over are rejoicing the news, band leader G.C. Lope said in a press conference today '...Shut Up Hippie Motherfucker' and expressed his gratitude towards John's comments."
In actual band news, Galactic Cuntface's debut album 'Chinese Democracy' is reportedly due to be released in September through The Cunt. However, without a song up on their MySpace, that claim may be as valid as the rumors about the other "Chinese Democracy" release.

Dark New Day Prepare To Enter Studio
DARK NEW DAY guitarist Clint Lowery, who has spent most of this year fulfilling his touring duties with KORN, has issued the following update:
"I'm so excited about going into the studio with the [DARK NEW DAY] guys. I'm having fun on the KORN tour but my heart is with DARK NEW DAY. The songs you hear on [the DARK NEW DAY MySpace page] that are new are demos we've done. The actual songs well do in September will be amazing. Some of the demo songs you've heard may show up on the record but it's gonna be an amazing record. [Producer] Dave Bendeth is gonna pull out stuff from us we didn't know existed. It's been awhile since we've been been gone but we're coming back with some serious shit to prove. Excuse my French. But we won't walk out of that studio until we have a serious DARK NEW DAY record. Not long now."
In addition to Clint, DARK NEW DAY features Brett Hestla (ex-CREED, VIRGOS MERLOT) on vocals, Will Hunt (EVANESCENCE, ex-SKRAPE, TOMMY LEE) on drums, Clint's brother Corey Lowery (ex-STEREOMUD, STUCK MOJO) on bass, and Troy McLawhorn (EVANESCENCE, ex-DOUBLE DRIVE) on guitar.
DARK NEW DAY released its debut album, "Twelve Year Silence", in June of 2005. The disc featured the single "Brother".
Clint Lowery was arrested on July 5 at the Hodokvas Festival in Piestany, Slovakia after a "wild, drunken night" at the event, which ended with the guitarist trashing his room. Lowery was released the following afternoon from police custody after apologizing and paying for the damages.
