Bloodsimple To Miss Sacramento Family Values Show

New York metalcore crew BLOODSIMPLE has issued the following statement:

"Sorry to say but we will have to cancel the Family Values show in Marysville [California] on Friday. Tim [Williams, vocals] has to have an emergency tooth pulled in L.A. in about an hour. He is in bad shape. We hope to be able to play Saturday in San Francisco (Mountain View) and Sunday in Irvine. Have to wait and see how he recovers. This totally sucks for all of us and we apologize!!!"

BLOODSIMPLE is scheduled to release its sophomore album, "Red Harvest", on October 9. A single, "Out to Get You", is expected to impact radio shortly.

Rehearsal footage of BLOODSIMPLE playing the new song "Dark Helmet" from its forthcoming CD "Red Harvest" has been posted at MetalKult.com. MetalKult.com has posted a new video interview with BLOODSIMPLE in which the band talks about a range of topics, including their roots in VISIONS OF DISORDER and SKREW, and their approach to writing their latest album, "Blood Harvest".

"This record is definitely a step up from the last one," says guitarist Nick Rowe.

"We tried to write more as a band this time," adds guitarist Mike Kennedy. "The last record was written a lot on ProTools and it was a little more structured whereas on this record we tried to open it up a little bit and make it feel like a real band wrote it. I think we definitely achieved that, for sure."

"Red Harvest" was produced by Machine (LAMB OF GOD, WHITE ZOMBIE). The LP will contain around 11 tracks, including "Dead Man Walking", the title cut and "El Myr" — the name of an Atlanta burrito bar the band loves to visit while on the road.

BLOODSIMPLE's debut CD, "A Cruel World", was released in March 2005 on MUDVAYNE singer Chad Gray's Bullygoat label imprint (via Warner Bros.).

P.O.D. Tap Jay Baumgardner For New Album

Spiritual rockers P.O.D. (a.k.a. PAYABLE ON DEATH) have tapped Jay Baumgardner to produce and mix their new record, "When Angels and Serpents Dance", set for release early next year on INO/Columbia Records. Baumgardner is known for his production and mixing skills for such artists as EVANESCENCE, HELMET, ORGY, SEETHER, PAPA ROACH, ALIEN ANT FARM and GODSMACK. Baumgardner's proven touch has helped to guide some of the most innovative and energetic artists of the last decade.

Baumgardner is the president of NRG Recording Studios, located in North Hollywood, CA. This top-line recording studio features state-of-the-art equipment, all-purpose studios, even a celebrated chef. Every possible amenity is available to enhance the recording experience of NRG's clientele; artists as diverse as MELISSA ETHERIDGE and 311 have recorded their award-winning music within the creative walls of NRG Recording Studios.

"When Angels and Serpents Dance" will feature a guest appearance by SUICIDAL TENDENCIES frontman Mike Muir.

"It is an honor for us to have someone like Mike on this new album," Sandoval previously said.

P.O.D.'s New Year's Eve performance in Times Square marked guitarist Marcos Curiel's first appearance with P.O.D. in nearly four years.

Curiel parted ways with the Christian rap-rockers in February of 2003 and later slammed the band, telling MTV.com, "With P.O.D., things were supposedly handled in the name of God, but they were actually handled in the name of greed."

He went on to form a new band called THE ACCIDENT EXPERIMENT, while P.O.D. recruited ex-LIVING SACRIFICE axeman Jason Truby to play on its last two studio albums, 2003's "Payable On Death" and 2005's "Testify". Truby exited the group once Curiel's return was made official.

"Greatest Hits: The Atlantic Years", P.O.D.'s final release through Atlantic Records, arrived in stores in November. It features the brand new track "Going in Blind".

Too Pure To Die Sign With Trustkill Records

Trustkill Records has announced the signing of TOO PURE TO DIE. The Des Moines, Iowa-based band has been building up momentum with its latest full-length release, "Confidence and Consequence" (Sumerian Records, 2006). The group has also been touring non-stop over the past year, with full U.S. and Canadian runs alongside such bands at AUGUST BURNS RED, MISERY SIGNALS, SWORN ENEMY, CALIBAN, KATAKLYSM and THE ACACIA STRAIN. They are about to start another full U.S. run with ALL THAT REMAINS this September running through October.

Since TOO PURE TO DIE released "Confidence and Consequence", it has added Paul Zurlo (formerly of BEYOND ALL REASON) on vocals. The band is rounded out by Jordan Peterson (guitar), Chris Towning (bass), Zach Johnson (guitar) and Kyle Rossi (drums).

Commented Peterson: "When I started this band one of my original goals was to be on Trustkill. I don't think we could make a better move than by joining forces." Trustkill president Josh Grabelle echoed the sentiments by saying, "There are some bands that get together and expect the world handed to them on a silver platter. Not TOO PURE TO DIE. These guys get out there and DO what other bands TALK about doing, they're running circles around most bands. I went and saw them play live with new singer Paul and was floored, they killed it. We are super-excited to see what the future holds for TOO PURE TO DIE!"

TOO PURE TO DIE is currently holed up in the studio re-recording "Confidence and Consequence" with new vocals from Paul and a previously unreleased track. The label aims to release the new version of the LP at the end of November. TOO PURE TO DIE is also working on material for its next album, tentatively due next summer.

Protest The Hero Confirms Album Release Date

PROTEST THE HERO, a radical five-piece band from Whitby, Ontario, has confirmed a November 13, 2007 release date for "Fortress", the group's second full-length album on Vagrant. The 10-song set was produced by Julius "Juice" Butty and recorded at Silo Studios in Hamilton, Ontario.

"This album is nothing to be intellectualized," stated lead singer Rody Walker. "All talk of wonder, pathos and optimism (blindfolded) aside (hink). I feel it's a very natural progression for us. A natural progression into further obscurity. I am of the belief a lot of the people who work for us were hoping for a stab at a more commercially viable album, however we wrote what we wanted without linear boundaries and created something less commercial than ever. Some fans of the band will hate it. And some people who hate the band will love it. All others can rot."

PROTEST THE HERO has not revealed any further details about the new CD other than to indicate that "Fortress" will not revolve around a single concept, like the band's 2006 debut, "Kezia", but is instead more closely akin to "goddess worship in the tradition of Robert Graves," according to lyricist and bassist, Arif Mirabdolbaghi.

The band will begin touring immediately and is set to open five dates with SHADOWS FALL followed by a string of dates with ALL THAT REMAINS. More information will be made available shortly.

"So we have played the last show of the 'Come Clarity' tour. It has been amazing, and the whole band would like to send out a MASSIVE thank you to all of you who came to our shows. Without you guys it would be pretty boring to play live, that’s for sure.

"As you know you can all submit your own photos from any of the IN FLAMES shows you may have been at. All you have to do is email them to webmaster@inflames.com and they will be posted as soon as possible.

"If you think we are now all going on holiday and taking it easy you are all wrong…we are about to start pre-production/record the new album, which will be released next year at some point, hopefully around spring time. The new album will be recorded in IF Studios in Gothenburg.

"You can follow the entire recording step by step by checking in to www.myspace.com/inflames where a video diary will be shown. A new episode will be posted each Monday.

Ted Nugent Talks About Recent Democratic Slamming

Legendary rocker Ted Nugent was a guest on Fox News' "The O'Reilly Factor" on Wednesday (August 29, 2007) to discuss the video which recently surfaced of the outspoken musician slamming Democratic presidential candidates Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama. Watch footage of Nugent's appearance on the program at FoxNews.com. A transcript follows:

John Kasich, guest host: Thanks for staying with us. I'm John Kasich, in for Bill O'Reilly.

And in the "Unresolved Problem" segment tonight, he's known for pushing the envelope, but at a recent performance at the House of Blues in California, Ted Nugent may have taken it too far.

Here's the video of his profanity-laced rant against two big Democratic presidential contenders.

(Begin Video Clip – watch it below)

Ted Nugent, musician: I was in Chicago last week. I was in Chicago. I said, "Hey, Obama! You might want to suck on one of these, you punk!" Obama, he's a piece of (expletive deleted), and I told him to suck on my machine gun. Let's hear it for him!

And then I was in New York. I said, "Hey, Hillary! You might want to ride one of these into the sunset, you worthless (expletive deleted).

(End Video Clip)

Kasich: South Dakota officials have reportedly asked the rocker to tone it down at the state fair show there this weekend.

Ted Nugent joins us now on the phone from Waco, Texas. His new CD, "Love Grenade", will be released on September 4.

Hey, Ted, why'd you do this?

Nugent: John, because rock 'n' roll is too much fun.

And let me just say a happy Labor Day to you.

But trying to explain the intensity of over-the-top outrageous irreverent rock 'n' roll is like trying to explain an orgasm to a eunuch. If some people don't get it, I am not here to help them through the quagmire.

You realize that when Mick Jagger rode a 40-foot inflated phallic symbol onto stage, he didn't explain anything to anyone. That was not political commentary. It was over-the-top, intense, hysterically funny rock and roll. And anybody who doesn't get it, drive safely.

Kasich: Well, Ted, I know rock 'n' roll. You know that I know rock 'n' roll. But frankly, I mean, that was, like, such a crude thing. You know, like some kind of fourth grade stuff, like you know, these things you said were — they just weren't right.

I mean, why — did you ever think these people — what about Obama's kid hearing that? What do we tell him? "Well, it's just rock 'n' roll?”

Nelson: I don't know. What do you tell the children of soldiers who have sacrificed their lives when Obama claims that their daddies are raiding innocent civilians over there?

Come on, John. Let's get our priorities straight. With all due respect, unless you've been to a Ted Nugent concert lately, you don't know the intensity.

By the way, we're selling out every concert on this "Love Grenade" tour. And I do exactly what the good Marine Corps taught me every night. And I do PG-13 concerts for the state fairs and the county fairs and all these different family events that I've been selling out. Because I want to make sure I do the right thing.

An outrageous, ove-the-top rock 'n' roll event like the House of Blues, John, as long as no laws are broken and no one gets hurt. Nothing is sacred.

Kasich: Well, no, I understand you say you have free speech. But you do say you want to run for office. Now how would you like your family — I guess I'm sensitive about it, Ted, because see, I've been the target of this kind of stuff. Not from the — well, sometimes from the right, but mostly from the left.

Nugent: John, what kind of stuff? What do you mean, target of humor?

Kasich: Personal attacks. I mean, this is a personal attack, what you did on these people. This was not like, you know, Obama is out there and, you know — I mean, look, I just went into it and attacked John Edwards. I try to do it, however, on the basis of the policy, on the issues.

Because what's happening, Ted, in our culture today is that politics is being ruined because people are being polarized because of the personal attacks and innuendoes being labeled at people.

And I know you love your country. I'm just telling you, this kind of stuff contributes to it. Don't you think it does?

Nugent: John, you know, I really respect your take. You do a great job whenever you stand up for things you believe in. They're the same things that the Nugent family and all good conscientious American families believe in.

But to try to make a comment in a meaningful and sincere way from the rock 'n' roll stage is really apples and grenades. When I want to make a personal comment about Obama or Hillary or anyone else, I will do so in an environment such as this where I will articulate the issues, you know, lick for lick. I'm not going to rant on the O'Reilly show, but on the rock 'n' roll stage, I'm going to be...

Kasich: These weren't issues. I mean, you were telling Obama to suck on your machine gun. And Hillary to ride, you know — come on. I mean...

Nugent: By the way, you know, I mean, John, Alice Cooper didn't really cut off his head with the guillotine on stage. And Sam Kinison really didn't believe in sex with a Volkswagen Beetle.

We're talking about stage outrage. And once again, God love you, John, but some people don't — you know, just this week, John, since this has aired — by the way, I've been saying this on stage for about eight years now. Do you know that again this week, I was invited by a family who has a terminally ill daughter who want me to take her hunting?

And you know, if a family with the terminally ill daughter thinks I'm OK — because you understand the outrage, and I don't need anyone else's stamp of approval.

Kasich: I'm not trying to — I'm not getting into questioning what kind of a guy you are here. I'm saying...

Nugent: Everybody else is.

Kasich: What I'm saying is this should be out of bounds, because you do love your country. You do want us to address some of the serious problems in this country.

I've got to tell you, Ted, none of it can happen when we're spending all of our time viciously attacking people on either side. And it's happening all of the time. So why don't you just take that part out and have more fun doing other things?

Nugent: Well, you know, it's coincidental, John. I take your advice to heart. I've been giving that advice to everyone from my brother and others, as well, who by the way, avoid rock 'n' roll concerts because they think my guitar is too damn loud.

Kasich: No, I don't think that. I know — you know, I know some of the stuff that you did. I know who Ted Nugent is.

I'm just saying, Ted, when you're there for the music, why not play the music? Why not be wry? Why not do things that are fun? But, you know, let's not tell that — look, we are too many enemies in politics. You know it. We spend our time trying to figure or how to destroy people. We don't destroy the candidate, we go after their wives, their spouses. We go after their kids. You need to be a leader in this.

Nugent: Well, you know, I would be more than happy to have a legitimate and sincere, well-researched dialogue with Hillary, Obama, anyone in a real environment of honesty and integrity.

On stage, it doesn't qualify. On the rock 'n' roll stage — and again, John, you can — many others seem to be resisting what literally tens of millions of people in America.

Come to TedNugent.com and you'll see that the response to this "Love Grenade" tour, with this hyperbious, over-the-top, outrageous, irreverent humor, is celebrated with cheers and laughter every night.

Coincidentally, John, as I finish up my "Love Grenade" tour in the next week, the next five shows that we wrap up the tour happen to be PG-13.

Kasich: OK, there you go.

Nugent: That's coincidental, but I will take your advice to heart.

Kasich: You think about it. You think about it.

Nugent: I'm always thinking.

Kasich: All right, Ted. Hey, listen, good luck on the rest of the tour. I'm sure they're going to join you out in South Dakota. Thanks for coming out tonight.

Nugent: And happy Labor Day.

Kasich: All right. Thank you.

Nugent has been an outspoken advocate of the second amendment (the right to bear arms) and pro-hunting issues.

Nugent also openly takes an anti-drugs and alcohol stance, which he reportedly has followed during his career, unlike many other rock musicians.

In addition to his music career, Nugent has starred in his own television reality shows, "Surviving Nugent" (2003, VH1) and "Wanted: Ted or Alive" (2005, OLN).

Alice Cooper Appears In Public Service Ad

An Arizona public-service announcement featuring longtime Phoenix resident Alice Cooper can be viewed below.

In other news, Alice Cooper will make his second appearance in a year at a Homer Haunted House and restaurant this Saturday, September 1. He will sign autographs from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Homer Mill (109 N. Byron St.) in Homer, MI.

According to AdWeek.com, Alice Cooper has never looked better than in this fall campaign for John Varvatos from Yard, New York. In one ad, he's outfitted in a black velvet jacket and top hat as he lounges on a couch with an enormous boa constrictor. Another features an eye-catching portrait of the singer with the snake playfully caressing his angular face. Photographed by music documentarian Danny Cinch, the black-and-white series, punctuated with the designer's name in bold red type, is another chic effort from the American menswear designer and a fine follow-up to previous ads featuring Iggy Pop and VELVET REVOLVER. The result is effortless, timeless style — just like the music it celebrates. More...

Opeth Leader Checks In

OPETH leader Mikael Åkerfeldt has issued the following update:

"Just a little update for you guys....

The Roundhouse Tapes is coming along nicely, both the CD version and the DVD. We're working on the artwork right now and as usual it takes time. I think the CD is supposed to be out in October sometime and the DVD early next year as far as I know. I hope it's going to be worth the wait.

Writing is coming along nicely. I have around 5 tracks ready, or semi ready. I think it sounds darker than ever before (not saying this to "sell" the record, I think it really is darker and more versatile. I have a new Pro Tools rig that I use to record my demos and it really helped. Everything's faster whereas before it was literally impossible for me to demo entire songs. I have loads of material that I have yet to demo and I've also gotten stuff from Per, Mendez and Fredrik.

At this point I know that it's going to be a very good record, at least for my taste. There's a sense of confidence in me that I've never really felt before, and I have no idea where it's coming from. I might confuse "confidence" with "inspiration" but basically everytime I sit down and play, I come up with something.

The plan for us at this point is to start rehearsing in October and record in Novemeber. We haven't talked about producers yet, I'm not sure what I want to do. I've talked with Steven Wilson but we'll see. We might do it on our own as we did the last time. We are going back into Fascination street, that's for sure...great studio! Everyone in the band is pretty psyched about this. We feel a little bit like "underdogs" with everything that's happened, yet I hope the quality of the music will clear all doubts. We still mean business....

OK, that's it, not much groundbreaking info yet, but I just wanted to say "Hey" and let you know what's up.

Take care peeps!

Mike"

As recently reported, Opeth are set to release The Roundhouse Tapes on October 22nd via Peaceville. According to a press release, "The Roundhouse Tapes contains a captivating Opeth performance from the Camden Roundhouse, London, UK, on November 9th, 2006 (a gig which also featured PARADISE LOST), and sees the band in scintillating form churning out a selection of classics from their illustrious career. You know what to expect from Opeth: unrivalled composition; seamless progressive dynamics and boundless atmosphere from the mellow to the incredibly heavy, all sealed with the unmistakable vocal presence of mainman Mikael Åkerfeldt."

The Roundhouse Tapes tracklisting:

CD1: 'When', 'Ghost Of Perdition', 'Under The Weeping Moon', 'Bleak', 'Face Of Melinda', 'Night And The Stillwater'.

CD2: 'Windowpane', 'Blackwater Park', 'Demon of the Fall'.

In the meantime, Opeth have commented about the upcoming HD version of The Roundhouse Tapes: "The (even more anticipated) HD filmed DVD will be released in early 2008. This will also feature (lots of) fan interviews, band interviews, soundcheck footage and live photos + exclusive menu music written by Åkerfeldt and Per Wiberg (keyboards

Black Sabbath Reunion "Not In Stone" Says Iommi

Billboard.com has issued the following report from Gary Graff:

There's plenty of talk about a BLACK SABBATH reunion for 2008. It's just not coming from the band members themselves. Guitarist Tony Iommi tells Billboard.com that even though "everybody's been talking to me" about the much-reported regrouping, "there's nothing in stone at all. It's very loose, so we'll see what happens."

Sharon Osbourne, original frontman OZZY OSBOURNE's wife and manager, indicated earlier this year that Sabbath would be working together in 2008, and recently confirmed that "we're definitely talking to the guys." She hopes to further the discussions while Ozzy is on the road this fall on his post-Ozzfest tour with ROB ZOMBIE and as Iommi and bassist Terry "Geezer" Butler finish up their HEAVEN AND HELL tour with RONNIE JAMES DIO.

Iommi says he'd like to see any Sabbath reunion involve some new music; the group's original lineup hasn't released a full set of fresh material since 1978's "Never Say Die!," though it did include a couple of new tracks on the 1998 live album "Reunion."

"I've been going on for a few years now saying I think we should've done an album a long time ago," Iommi explains. "It would be nice to do one, but, again, it's having the time to do it. I haven't written an album with Ozzy for a long time, so we'll have to see how long that'll take, and what it involves."

Iommi says he and Osbourne have been talking throughout the year and reports that the singer is "doing quite alright. He sounded fine when I spoke to him. We usually check in with each other and say, 'How you doing?'"

Vader Talk About New DVD, Song And Tour

Polish death metal veterans VADER check in with the following:

At the moment Vader is hard at work on band's new releases and upcoming tours. Peter (guitars, vocals) talks about upcoming Blitzkrieg 4 Tour and shares some details on band's new DVD, track, videoclip and anniversary album:

"Good to see You all again!!!!

Vader needs a vacation as well...That's the reason , why there was no news for a couple of weeks on our site.

Here is some new informations collected in last month... If You already noticed, there is new DVD gonna be released soon. The show was recorded in the club Stodola in Warsaw. That's why the title came from (...And Blood Was Shed In Warsaw). The main part of the DVD are the songs from our last releases , BUT... there are some rarities on this material like 'Sword of the Witcher'! What the Hell is that? There's CD-Project RED who work on PC games and who asked us to compose a song , which is gonna be kinda "trailer-song" for their upcoming game. The title of the game is The Witcher and this is pretty fresh RTS in the fantastic , filled with brutality and Magic world of the Witcher (from the Sapkowski novels). More than awesome graphics are made by world famous Mr.Baginski (1st prize.... for Cathedral) and give the game revolutionary character indeed! We said "yes!" and recorded the song in May in Hertz Studio. 'The Sword Of the Witcher' is an absolutely differnet piece of music compared to previous Vader works but still Metal full of fire, beasts, warriors and... blood!!!

We were but affraid, that because of many instruments recorded there will be a problem to play this song alive. However, thanx to new technology we are able to do it and we plan to add this Witcher-song to the set list on the upcoming Blitzkrieg IV-2.

On July 10th in Bolkov Castle we have realised a video clip for 'Sword Of the Witcher' with cooperation with Intermedia. There are the same guys who were working on 'Hellelujah !!!' video clip recently...This new picture will be available on DVD as well. We didn't have too much time to work with this clip, but... it's always nice to see something so different than 'This is the War' or just mentioned 'Hellelujah!! '. Fire , Steel and Magic!!!!!!!!

What else? In few days we finalize recordings of the aniversary album entitled XXV. This one will include 25 Vader hits from early days re-recorded again. There will be some rarities on the limited special edition as well....

We're also practicing with new set for the Blitz' IV/2... You know the bands already so I can give You some information, that there'll be different set in the cities, we were played in last year and the new places on tour. We start with some shows in Russia in mid of September. And that's it for now! More news soon....... Metal United!!!!!!!!"

Within Temptation Post Update

Dutch gothic metallers WITHIN TEMPTATION have issued the following update:

"Hi everybody,

Here are some updates on various places where we'll be playing this fall. We found out that we will be doing 121 shows and festivals in 2007, which truly is a band record. And still we haven't gotten to every continent and/or country, imagine that!

This coming Saturday, we will be playing in Turkey for the first time, at the Rock'n Coke Festival in Istanbul. This is very exciting for us as Turkey is a country we haven't played in before. We can't wait to finally meet our Turkish fans.

A few days later, we will be flying out to Boston to start our first North American headlining tour. Tickets are selling fast, so make sure you get your tickets in time. THE DEAR & DEPARTED will be support act on this tour, as well as a local opening act on each show. In other words: it'll be a great evening. We will be walking around to meet all of you, there will be merchandise, albums, etc.etc. We hope to see you all there, bring your friends and family as well! Also, we will be doing a short competition through Opendisc today, where you can win a private meet & greet or merchandise for each show. So make sure you're signed on!

In October, we will be playing in Germany, Switzerland, Austria and France. Germany has always been a special place for us and for all of these shows in October we're planning something special, more about that later! Opening acts at these shows will be 69 EYES and DELAIN, with the exception of Austria and Switzerland where 69 Eyes will be the only support act.

In November we'll be doing our biggest UK shows yet (with 69 Eyes as well), which is also very cool and exciting. This will be a few days after our big solo show at the Beursgebouw in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, which will also be a very special gig. Another cool UK-newsbit is that Mother Earth will be re-released in the UK on September 24th! It will feature the original album, plus 4 live tracks. Make sure to get your copy once it becomes available!

It'll be a busy fall, we look forward to seeing you all soon! For all the exact dates, ticket sales, etc., please go to the Tour section!

All the best, Sharon, Robert, Ruud, Stephen, Martijn, Jeroen."

Unholy Alliance DVD To Be Released

SLAYER has compiled footage from last year's Unholy Alliance Tour with LAMB OF GOD and MASTODON for a DVD that will be released on October 30 via American Recordings. Directed by Adam Rothlein (Speedway Films), "Unholy Alliance Tour" captures the July 13, 2006, stop in Vancouver, British Columbia, and also includes footage of the other two acts on the bill, CHILDREN OF BODOM and THINE EYES BLEED. Behind-the-scenes clips and interviews, many of which were conducted by the bandmembers, round out the set.

SLAYER's concert at the San Diego Sports Arena on Saturday, August 25, 2007 was streamed live on YeboTV, a next-generation web-based TV network.

The San Diego concert was a stop on SLAYER's current North American co-headline trek with MARILYN MANSON and is in support of the release of SLAYER's "Christ Illusion, Special Limited Edition" (American Recordings) CD/DVD which hit stores in U.S. and globally on July 24.

SLAYER's "Christ Illusion" reissue contains the previously unreleased cut "The Final Six", as well as an alternate version of "Black Serenade". It also boasts a bonus DVD called "Slayer on Tour '07" which includes the "Eyes of the Insane" video; a live rendition of the band's 1988 LP track "South of Heaven" that was shot in Vancouver, British Columbia, on last year's "Unholy Alliance" run; and a behind-the-scenes, five-minute documentary-style montage of footage shot earlier this year when the band performed in Florida and Australia.

Slayer Guitarist Talks About Marilyn Manson Tour

Mike Daniel of The Dallas Morning News recently conducted an interview with SLAYER guitarist Kerry King. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow:

On touring with MARILYN MANSON:

"I haven't seen any fistfights or anything yet. But there's a lot of gray area between our fans and Marilyn's. We both mine the same depths. But you can always pick out his fans — they're the freaky-dressed ones — and you can always tell who our fans are; they're the simply dressed ones.

"There was this girl in the middle of the last show that had her fingers in her ears the whole time we were on. I [expletive] loved it!"

On winning a Grammy Award in February for the song "Eyes of the Insane", which chronicles the last moments of a soldier about to die at war:

"It never really blew my mind. It's odd, especially considering what I think of the music industry in general. It doesn't mean nearly as much as if some metal mag had given us a major award. It's cool and all, but not all that important."

"My take on it would be that 60 percent of the voters don't even know what the song's about, and that's probably being generous. I think the majority of voters just look at the ballot, check off a name they recognize in the categories that they don't know anything about, and turn it in.

"Winning the Grammy gives you voting rights for it. I know that when the time comes to vote, I'll just check off something or other in the hip-hop categories since I don't know anything about it. I'm sure that someone like Jay-Z probably did the same thing with the metal categories."

KORN's new, untitled album sold 123,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 2 on The Billboard chart. This is slightly more than half of the 221,000 first-week tally achieved by its predecessor, "See You on the Other Side", which landed at No. 3 back in December 2005.

KORN guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer recently told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette why the band chose not to continue working with veteran drummer Terry Bozzio, who played on the band's new album. Shaffer explained, "There were certain demands that he made. We weren't ready to meet those demands...He was a great guy and a phenomenal drummer. But the demands that he made were offensive. He wanted to be a member of the band, and that included ownership. We were like, 'What? You want to have 25 percent of everything?' We can't just sign away the rights to music on a whim."

Sabbat Announce New Bassist

Guitarist Andy "Undie" Sneap of the reactivated U.K. thrashers SABBAT has issued the following update:

"Those of you who have seen us at recent festivals in July/August will have noticed Frazer [bassist Fraser Craske] not quite being himself but doing a great impersonation of our good friend Gizz Butt (ex-PRODIGY / ENGLISH DOGS / current MORE I SEE guitar player). It became obvious to us that Frazer's heart really wasn't into playing and he admitted he didn't want to do all the shows we had planned.

"I first met Gizz in 1988. He actually wanted to audition for SABBAT when we played the Mosley Dance Centre in Birmingham with his band WAR DANCE. He didn't get an audition because he had a pink guitar but we stayed in touch, became great friends, I produced a few records for him and even became God parent for his son. Bit odd seeing as I don't believe in the big man himself, but hey, it was a crackin' party.

"It's a shame Frazer hasn't been more into this, we all wanted this to be the original line up but on the other hand Gizz's playing is amazing and I don't think it's ever sounded quite as tight as when we are on form at the moment. So be sure to welcome Gizz on future dates, as you will find out if you say hello, he's quite a character."

Professionally filmed video footage of reunited British thrashers SABBAT performing at this year's Bloodstock Open Air festival, which took place August 16-18 at Catton Hall in Derbyshire, England, can be viewed below.

Sanctuary Records recently reissued two classic SABBAT albums: "History of a Time to Come" (1988) and "Dreamweaver" (1989). The remastered CDs contain audio recordings from the band's 1990 concert in East Berlin, which was previously released as the official "The End of the Beginning" video.

Rob Zombie Inks Two Picture Deal With Dimension

According to Variety, Dimension Films has inked a two-picture deal with writer-director Rob Zombie.

Andy Gould, Zombie's longtime manager and producing partner, has boarded both projects as producer.

Per the terms of the deal, Zombie will write and direct both titles, although Dimension didn't release any further details about the projects, including whether they would be horror films.

"We are excited about his fresh take on 'Halloween' and are thrilled to be expanding our relationship with him on future projects," Dimension head Bob Weinstein said. "We admire Rob for all the roles he plays, both as a director and writer."

Zombie said the two-picture deal with Dimension is a "natural step in the evolution of my film career."

Gould, with Spectacle Entertainment Group, produced Zombie's two previous features, "The Devil's Rejects" and "House of 1000 Corpses".
