Van Halen Adds Shows In Light Of Strong Sales

Van Halen, who last week announced plans for a fall tour with reinstated frontman David Lee Roth at the helm, have added some new dates to the run after posting strong ticket sales over the weekend.

According to tour promoter Live Nation, the band's previously announced stops in Charlotte, NC; the Detroit area; Toronto; the Chicago area; and Philadelphia sold out shortly after tickets hit the box office. The group has since booked a second show at Philadelphia's Wachovia Center, a new stop at Detroit's Joe Louis Arena, and the tour's first Washington, DC, date. Tickets for the Philly and Detroit shows are scheduled to go on sale Saturday (8/25), while those for the Washington performance will roll out Friday (8/24), according to a press release.

The group's itinerary--which, as previously reported, begins in late September--now comprises a total of 29 shows that are scattered through mid-December. Details are shown below.

Van Halen's upcoming tour will be the band's first to feature Roth since the motor-mouthed frontman left the group in 1985. Ironically, the tour will not feature the group's original lineup, as guitarist Eddie Van Halen and drummer Alex Van Halen have replaced original bassist Michael Anthony with Eddie's 16-year-old son, Wolfgang Van Halen.

Anthony last toured with Van Halen during the group's 2004 reunion with vocalist Sammy Hagar, who took over for Roth from 1985 through 1996. That outing ended when Hagar and Eddie Van Halen had another falling out, and Anthony has since gone all-in with Hagar; the two have been touring together regularly, and, as previously reported, will head back out in October for a 60-date run that will feature the duo performing a slew of Van Halen material. Korn Frontman Is "Poster Boy" For "Guitar Hero"

The Pulse of Radio (formerly Launch Radio Networks) reports: KORN frontman Jonathan Davis has become what he calls the "poster boy" for Guitar Hero, the hugely successful video game that allows players to shred along with their favorite songs. Davis, who enjoys playing the game with his sons and friends, even agreed to participate in a contest on the current Family Values tour where fans get to come backstage and play the game against him.

The singer told The Pulse of Radio he's glad to be part of the Guitar Hero craze. "I love that game," he said. "I haven't played in a long time, but I kind of became, like, the poster boy for it. I landed my face on the cover of the New York Times. It was pretty heavy for Guitar Hero, and I love the game, and they came and then they wanted to sponsor the tour and do the contest and have the kid come backstage after the show and play me, and I just got my ass handed to me by this kid who's been playing it nonstop for, like, about seven months straight."

Despite Davis' love of the game, no KORN songs have yet appeared on Guitar Hero.

The third edition of the game comes out this fall.

KORN is currently topping the Family Values bill, which stops on Tuesday (August 21) in Oklahoma City. The band will launch another headlining tour in October, with HELLYEAH, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH and DROID rumored as the supporting acts.

KORN is supporting its untitled eighth studio album, which arrived on July 31.

Machine Head's Adam Duce To Miss US Tour

In an unfortunate turn of events, Machine Head bassist Adam Duce will miss this Fall's highly-anticipated Black Tyranny Tour in the U.S. due to a broken leg suffered while dirt biking in Redding, CA. Initially thought to be nothing more than a bad sprain, x-rays later confirmed the break, which required surgery to attach a steel plate and two screws to the broken bone.

A disappointed Duce laments, "It sucks to be in this position, because we have such a killer tour set up for the end of the summer and now we'll have to find a replacement for me. I've never missed one show that this band has ever played up to this point and I never thought I would see the day when Machine Head would be playing and I wouldn't be on stage."

The band are currently rehearsing with temporary bassist candidates and are in the final stages of selecting Duce's replacement, the details of which will be announced as soon as they are determined. All Black Tyranny dates in the U.S. will go on as scheduled, and Duce will be returning for the Australian and European legs of The Black Crusade Tour, beginning with the band's Loudpark date in Japan.

Watain To Head The Storm of the Antichrist Tour

It is now official, WATAIN will head out on a full-scale European crusade in October - the Storm of the Antichrist tour - alongside the ancient Asian warbeast IMPIETY. This will be WATAIN's first headliner tour in Europe, following the April release of the highly acclaimed "Sworn to the Dark".

"From the vaults below the desert-temple, to the throne among the stars... Sweden's Black Metal Magicians have been burning and pillaging their way through the Black Metal scene ever since their cursed birth. Notoriously infamous for their blood-soaked, fiery live-perfomances and morbid ways, WATAIN have many times been refered to as "the new usurpers of the Black Metal throne". Their third album "Sworn to the Dark" was released in early 2007 and was welcomed worldwide as one of the most important releases of the genre in years. After having toured the world with bands like DISSECTION, CELTIC FROST and ANGELCORPSE, it is now time for WATAIN's first headliner tour in Europe. Beware... The werewolves of Satan have been unleashed!"

New Ava Inferi MP3 Available For Download

Season of Mist has released the upcoming AVA INFERI track "Pulse of the Earth" on the internet, taken from upcoming album "The Silhouette". You can download an MP3 of this track here.

AVA INFERI reveals "The first version of this song had a totally different character. The overall feeling is probably the same but the rhythmic structure was completely different. It had an almost floating, ambient kind of vibe to it and was generally more avant-garde than what it turned out to be. We feel that the new version has all the elements that makes AVA INFERI something different, and it's also one of the most powerful songs we have composed up to this point in our career. A true and powerful declaration.

"The lyrics on "Pulse of the Earth" are strongly influenced by nature and the forces therein, and furthermore, they paint a vision of the interactions between man and nature. Note that "The Silhouette" in itself is partly devoted to the elemental aspects of our world and that this song represents the earth element, if any doubt...

"On this particular song we also use different types of rhythmic or native (diverse) instruments to recreate and achieve a kind of ritualistic feeling. To bring out the message and its essence to the fullest. We also believe that every song presented on "The Silhouette" has its own strength and mission. That each song has its own peculiar twist. An album full of surprises!"

Ava Inferi's "The Silhouette" will be in stores on October 15th and October 23rd for the US.

Stam1na Prepare To Record New Album

STAM1NA, a metal quartet from Lemi, Finland will start the recording of their third album on September 10th. For atmospheric reasons, the forthcoming album will be recorded in their hometown Lemi in the Purple Fly-studio. Janne Joutsenniemi will produce the album. His legendary band Stone was one of the biggest influences for Stam1na. Miitri Aaltonen who produced the first two Stam1na-albums will be mixing this one. The working title for the album is Raja and the recordings should be finished during this year. Their new album will hit the stores in the early 2008.

Antti "Hyrde" Hyyrynen, the guitarist vocalist of the band is excited for this chance to work with his childhood hero Janne Joutsenniemi.

"This is a match made in heaven and a big step for the band. Janne will most certainly bring his own thing to this album. Let's say it this way: The mustard-machine is still the same but Janne changes our dipers", says Hyyrynen.

"About the lyrical part I can say that again we search, explore and try both our and boundaries of humanity. During the last few years we have tried our limits and probably gone even beyond them.", says Hyyrynen about the lyrics of Stam1na

Stam1na was found on 1996 and they have released 2 albums so far: Stam1na (2005) and Uudet Kymmenen Käskyä (2006) which went to number 3 on finnish albumcharts and it received an Emma-award by being the best metal album of 2006 in Finland.

Headline News

The Hidden Hand Call It A Day

THE HIDDEN HAND, the band featuring hard rock guitar legend Scott "Wino" Weinrich (ST. VITUS, THE OBSESSED, SPIRIT CARAVAN), has split up.

Commented Weinrich: "Without going into detail to embarrass anyone, this is a message to inform everyone THE HIDDEN HAND no longer exists. I cannot any longer tolerate being promised stuff that never happens or be accused of dishonesty. I think in my long and fruitful career I have always tried to be fair and honest, even going out of my way creatively and financially to make it happen including compromise. I have put an enormous burden on my family and myself to try and fulfill my dreams which have not been to enrich myself financially, but to enrich others as well as myself spiritually and emotionally. The music industry these days turns on the most mediocre crap, be it pop or cheesy black metal, which is really just sickening or laughable. So be it. I will still be wholeheartedly dedicated to the SHRINEBUILDER project with Chris and Al of OM and Scott from NEUROSIS. This will be a long way off but I KNOW these dudes are FOR REAL. SO all I will say now is thanks for believing. I'm sure some will assume I am some ego guy who's impossible to work with, nothing is farther from the truth. I just expect the same amount of fairness and respect I give. A tall call these days, unfortunately."

THE HIDDEN HAND's latest full-length release, "The Resurrection of Whiskey Foote", came out in February. The CD is the third THE HIDDEN HAND full-length (second from Southern Lord) and features the lineup that recorded the now sold-out/out-of-print "Devoid of Color" EP from last year: Scott "Wino" Weinrich (guitars, vocals), Bruce Falkinburg (bass) and Evan Tanner (drums).

"The Resurrection of Whiskey Foote" is not necessarily a concept album but it is heavily layered with historical story-based lyricism and themse. Musically there is a subtle southern or classic rock vibe (ala killer slide playing from Wino and even some harp by Michael Anthony Miller) that creeps into the foundation of their brand of dark, heavy, progressive rock.

Helloween Mixing New Album

German melodic metallers HELLOWEEN have commenced the mixing sessions for their 12th studio LP, tentatively titled "Gambling with the Devil". The CD was recorded at singer Andi Deris' Mi Sueno Studios in Tenerife, Spain with longtime producer Charlie Bauerfeind (BLIND GUARDIAN, SAXON). A Halloween (October 31) release is expected via SPV Records.

HELLOWEEN will team up with GAMMA RAY for the "Hellish Rock" tour beginning November 16 in Budapest, Hungary. Support on select dates will come from AXXIS.

Apart from very few festival appearances, this will be the first time ever HELLOWEEN and GAMMA RAY have toured together. In addition, it is extremely likely that Kai Hansen — GAMMA RAY leader and ex-HELLOWEEN member — will join his former bandmates for a jam on classic HELLOWEEN numbers.

Commented HELLOWEEN guitarist Michael Weikath: "This is going to be a historical event for all HELLOWEEN fans. We are looking forward to have Kai and his band on our tour with us."

Plans also exist to take this powerful package to the territories of Southeast Asia, as well as North and South America.

Michael Anthony: "I Wasn't Invited For VH Reunion"

Former VAN HALEN bassist Michael Anthony has released the following update:

"I want to thank everyone for all the support you've shown me during the past months. It's all been pretty crazy, and I just wanted to bring you all up to speed.

"A lot of you have been asking about the upcoming VAN HALEN tour and my response to it. It's not that I'm not touring with VAN HALEN because I'm going out with Sammy [Hagar; former VAN HALEN frontman]. I'm going out with Sammy because I was not invited to do the VH tour. Sammy told me that if I was asked to be part of the VH tour and decided to do it, it would be totally cool, and it would not tarnish our friendship in the least!! Well, it's not to be, and life goes on. I'll still be out there with Sam, and I can't wait to do some partying with all of you.

"One last note from myself to all the VAN HALEN fans out there who will be attending their shows... Wolfgang [Van Halen, new VAN HALEN bassist and Eddie Van Halen's son] is a great kid, so don't judge him too harshly. I'm sure he'll do just fine!!"

A furor erupted online last week after photos of Anthony at the band's official web site were either removed or replaced by an image of guitarist Eddie Van Halen's son Wolfgang, who will play bass on the group's upcoming tour. The photos were restored less than two days later.

VAN HALEN announced the details of its long-awaited reunion tour with original singer David Lee Roth on August 13. The tour kicks off on September 27 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Pre-recorded tapes will reportedly be used to recreate Anthony's backing vocals on the tour.

Overkill Frontman Posts New Blog

Overkill frontman "Blitz" has posted a new blog on the bands official Myspace account:

"Welcome aboard...we're back from Wacken...and holding in our greasy, little hands the footage from a night well spent with an international metal crowd, on a chilly August night in Germany. Looks like you are going to get to share in it, even after the fact; as we look to include some of that Waken night in the release of Immortalas, this Oct., 9th.

So what's new kids? Keeping your heads in that up and down? Horns up?
Here too, seems we have a helluva year planned...touring...video...and
your general fucking around all of the planet.

We got underway with the project quite awhile back, before the
Gigantour...but didn't finish until this past July. I think the most
time ever taken for a release, by us....and in our opinion well worth the extra time. Another self-produced project, from the bowels of a dark NJ studio. It's all about the end result....and top notch it is....Randy Blythe stepped in to give the track Skull and Bones, the ultimate hellish vocal duet vibe....man that motherfucker is loud!

We will have some of the footage here...yes here, for you, yes you to see.

As we are revamping this whole page to fit the new release. A ton of new fun features....like "shoot ur least favorite band member" and a hangover section for the wrecked-wreckingcrew :)

Ron stepped up and knocked it out of the park....the best "hands" in OK, hands down! I think when a guy enters this type of situation...the

adrenaline is at such a high level he becomes contagious, like a "good"
disease. He shines throughout the record...and you'll know it from the
opener, Devil's in the Mist.

We look forward to seeing you on the road...OCT!!!!!!!!!
And you can check back with here as the other guys will blog in on
occasion....to keep you all updated.....once they all complete their,
"English, as a second language" course.
Best, from the Gutter,

Exodus Reveal Album Title And Tracklisting

The follwoing message has been posted by Exodus guitarist Gary Holt on the bands official forums:

"Alright people, I'm not THAT cruel, enough of the suspense! It's been hard for me and all the boys to hold back on the info for this long, but it's time to let everyone in on the particulars. The album is titled " The Atrocity Exhibition... Exhibit A ". And the track listing is as follows.

1 A Call To Arms
2 Riot Act
3 Funeral Hymn
4 Children Of A Worthless God
5 As It Was, As It Soon Shall Be
6 The Atrocity Exhibition
7 Iconoclasm
8 The Garden Of Bleeding
9 Bedlam 123

Why Exhibit A you might ask? Because we already have four songs recorded and finished for the next album, which we will resume recording some time around the end of the year, and this is a two part record. Part two being exhibit B. So yes, there will be another Exodus album finished hopefully soon after the release of this one. And when all is said and done, there will never have been anything as brutal and genre defining done before in thrash metal. An epic monster this one is, and the next is going to take it even further.
So there it is, no more secrets! Discuss!"

Mower Announce Tour WIth Twiztid

Mower has announced the dates for their upcoming tour with Twiztid. The tour will kick off September 25th in Cleveland, OH and will end November 12th in Detroit, MI at St. Andrews Hall.

“We're pumped to be on a Psychopathic tour. We've done shows with Twiztid and Blaze and ever since the word got out we were on this tour, the Juggalos started contacting us online to say what's up,” says Mower frontman Brian Sheerin. “They're all ready for the tour to start. Juggalos don't f**k around, it’s summer and people are set to go off, and so are we.”

The tour comes on the heels of back to back tours supporting (Hed).p.e, and Kottonmouth Kings. The band’s video for “Road Rage” was also spun on MTV’s Headbanger’s Ball and the album has also garnered a 2007 San Diego Music Award nomination in the “Best Hard Rock” category.

"We want to get out there and see all of our friends. The last few Mower tours hit a lot of the same areas, so we got to hang with the same cool people and now it's time to go back out and see them again," says Sheerin. This will be a great underground tour - the best kind of tour - packed houses and energetic crowds. We're coming to throw down onstage every night and then party and watch Twiztid do their thing. It's going to be great."

Mower is touring in support of their recently released album “Not For You” (Suburban Noize Records), which was produced by ex-Snot/Soulfly guitarist Mikey Doling.

Korn To Be On Bruce Dickinson Show

KORN will be IRON MAIDEN frontman Bruce Dickinson's guests on Friday, September 14 during Bruce's weekly BBC 6 Music radio show, aptly named "The Bruce Dickinson Friday Rock Show". Listen to the program live via the Internet between 10:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. U.K. time at BBC.co.uk.

KORN's new, untitled album sold 123,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 2 on The Billboard chart. This is slightly more than half of the 221,000 first-week tally achieved by its predecessor, "See You on the Other Side", which landed at No. 3 back in December 2005.

KORN guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer recently told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette why the band chose not to continue working with veteran drummer Terry Bozzio, who played on the band's new album. Shaffer explained, "There were certain demands that he made. We weren't ready to meet those demands...He was a great guy and a phenomenal drummer. But the demands that he made were offensive. He wanted to be a member of the band, and that included ownership. We were like, 'What? You want to have 25 percent of everything?' We can't just sign away the rights to music on a whim."

Anthrax Guitarist To Present Kerrang! Awards

ANTHRAX' Scott Ian has been confirmed as the presenter for this year's Kerrang! Awards, which take place in London on August 23.

"I'm excited, I think it's gonna be a lot of fun!" says the guitarist. "I've never hosted an awards type of thing before, but I was the minister at my brother's wedding, so I had to get up there in front of everybody and actually be the guy running the whole show, so after doing that this should be pretty easy!"

Ian's memories of K! Awards past, made the decision to get involved this year a no brainer: "I went a couple of years ago when Anthrax got an award and I had a blast, so, I figured it'd be even better this time because I get to be more of a part of it."

Axl Rose To Appear On New Sebastian Bach Album

GUNS N' ROSES frontman AXL ROSE has issued the following statement in regard to his participation on SEBASTIAN BACH's new solo CD, Angel Down:

"Bas asked me to sing on his new record, Angel Down, and I agreed and came down to his studio where he played me the tracks. I really liked the title/opening track, 'Angel Down', but I didn't feel that it would be right to be on that one, although, of course, it would've been cool because it's a great rip-your-head-off track!

Since this session was rather a more fun atmosphere, the tracks I sang on kind of showed themselves and were also done out of curiosity on the part of Bas, myself, and his producer, Roy Z, just to see if my involvement brought something that worked for the tracks.

Bas really wanted me on 'Bitchslap', and I got to try my own ideas on it. We're not saying much about the second track, as it may be taken a bit further, and when Bas played the third track, 'Stuck Inside', he suggested a kind of call-and-answer part. They allowed me the freedom to write my own words and melodies, and although it's only a couple of lines, it really felt great. The song has such a mean riff, and Bas' guys were so supportive in so many ways on tour and fun to hang with, that it was great to be a part of something of theirs and I think it really came out strong.

For me, the three songs together are a good package. They are all different, with different approaches and styles from each other and from material I have on the upcoming Guns N’ Roses record. For me, the timing couldn’t be better and I’m quite surprised to be on one song, let alone three!!!

Bas really knew where he saw my involvement on his album and had different options in mind. He knew what seemed obvious, what would be fun, what would work for his album and what he felt I would like. I really liked the energy of the tracks and since I'm rarely asked to do anything I'd actually enjoy or be glad to be a part of, I'm more than grateful for the opportunity and hope the fans get a kick out of it as well."

Sebastian Bach's Angel Down will be on store shelves November 20th.
